My parents have taken up curling as a new hobby over at CurlVegas and I dropped by here to watch them. This is Las Vegas' only curling club and I didn't even know they had one until they began this hobby. For those of you who don't know what curling is, it is a sport similar to shuffleboard, where you slide a stone on ice towards a target with four different circles. Though curling was first established in Scotland, it has attracted more popularity in Canada as the centuries have passed. This is also played in the Winter Olympics every four years. Located in an office space complex off Sunset and Pecos, they practice every Friday night, beginning at 6:30pm and ending at 8:00pm, with three other people being in their group. Sitting in front of the ice felt like watching the Golden Knights games, but the inside temperature overall wasn't all that bad. They have a separate break/waiting room away from the ice if it starts getting too chilly. Curling is not as easy as it looks. It takes a lot of hard work and effort with all that sweeping on the ice. My dad told me that he threw and swept about 15 stones during last practice and couldn't get any of them in the targets. This finally happened, though, and I got to witness it! I would like to join them at one point, but at the same time, I'm too nervous because I always worry that I may slip and fall on the ice. When their instructor asked me if I was going to sign up, I said this same exact thing to him. It was fun watching curling in person! They've been doing a great job so far, and maybe they'll grab a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. We'll see!

Had a great time at my first try of Curling at CurlVegas yesterday. We had reservations for a group of 18 with two dedicated sheets (lanes). Check in at the reception was smooth and Luann had a great personality and offered us drinks for purchase at the snack area with plenty of alcoholic and non alcoholic options. The team members walked us through what to expect inside and then walked us through the techniques when we got onto the ice. The sport is good fun and the grippers for your shoes definitely help to stabilize your footing on the ice. Curling looks easy but when trying it was definitely a learning curve and after the first few throws it gets a little easier. Brad tallied up our scores and presented the winners in a fun fashion. Overall would highly recommend and would give the team members kuddos for all their hard work!

Came for a family reunion with 40 people of varying ages and it was SO FUN! The instructors were awesome (especially Karla) and the learning pace was perfect to feel like we were progressing but never bored. The groups were only 4-5 per instructor so it made for a fun tournament after the lesson. They even did awards at the end. Perfect for big groups, team building and fun competition.

The coolest game in town! CurlVegas just opened Southern Nevada's first and only dedicated curling ice in April 2024! Friendly people, great facility, and an easy to learn game of curling! Learn To Curl, Next Steps lessons, beginner and weekly leagues mean that whatever your skill level, you'll find a spot at CurlVegas! Good curling!

This place is an absolute blast! The two staff members who taught our class were so nice and funny too! They were super great teachers and made learning the sport fun and easy. My family of four had so much fun. The class was worth it and wasn't too pricy for a Vegas activity. Honestly just so much fun- and such a unique thing to do!

A group of friends and I tried a curling lesson, we thought it would be a fun outing and it was wonderful. We had such a blast! Our coach Brad was very patient with our silly group and fun to be around. There was a lady assisting him and she captured so many great photos of our group! Our lesson was for a few hours and we learned so much and accomplished a lot. There were other players on the ice who where part of the curling club so we got to watch the professionals, that was a lot of fun. Everyone on the ice was so nice and supportive. It was an awesome experience. Tips if you go: Be prepared to work up a sweat. Wear some thermal socks (my toes were so cold). Wear layers because you will start shedding clothes.

If you don't understand how a bout works you may have a little trouble. What I liked about it was the enthusiasm from the crowd and a couple of times the rowdiness of the skaters. There was a lot of lulls and not a lot of action so that makes it hard to want to pay attention to. What I didn't like was it was kind of hard to see especially if you were sitting down in the rows of chairs...so I actually chose to sit on the floor right in front of the rink which I wasn't crazy about. They play music the whole time which is cool but then the announcers try to talk and give you updates on the game and it's really hard to hear or understand what's actually being said. They serve beer drinks and even snacks but my suggestion is eat or get drunk before you go because they charge an arm and a leg inside the ballroom. You can't bring outside food or drinks in so if you go to the casino you can get a beer for two dollars Or stay in the ballroom and pay 7 to 10. It's not rocket science. I'll have to say it is fun to meet up with some friends hang out laugh and talk while watching something sort out on the side. It was their last bout at the Riviera as we all know it's going to be torn down so that was kind of cool in a little nostalgic. Hopefully the skaters will find a new venue to continue their tradition.

If you were ever lucky enough to catch RollerGames (1989-1990) on late night TV (as I did as a preteen), you know exactly what this game is all about and you can easily get hooked! On Saturday, April 25th, the Husband and I experienced our first real live roller derby match at the Las Vegas Roller Hockey Rink. It's located in the corner of the Commercial Center and can easily be missed, but it's there! Doors opened at 7 pm and the bout begins at 8 pm. You can choose to sit inside the rink on folding chairs, along the side on the floor, or safely behind the glass. Seats are up close and personal and they do promise the possibility of having a rollergirl in your lap! After the game, you can get autographs from your favorite players too! (There's a snack bar available too.) If you don't understand the game, they give out a handy little program with all the details, but the MC will also explain the game as it goes on. There's even a mini duel right at the beginning to give you a visual of what's about to happen. That evening, they played against the Arizona Roller Derby Tent City Terrors. Sure, we lost but it was a very exciting game and you never really knew who was going to win! Advanced tickets are $7 (although we tried purchasing such tickets the night before, but no luck), and $10 at the door. Kids under 10 and EMTs are free! This is definitely an athletic and family-friendly event, although a few of the players' names may be a bit suggestive. It looks like they have two local teams - The Notorious VIPs and the Tommy Gun Terrors. But when they play against another city, they combine into the Sin City Rollergirls. (Correct me if I'm wrong please!) The team colors of the Sin City Rollergirls are orange and black. We're definitely looking forward to catching at least one more game before their season ends!

I called the day before, and the staff member on the phone was very friendly and clearly explained how the token system worked. Unfortunately, our in-person experience was VERY disappointing. My son went through his first round of purchased credits, and only one hit (out of many solid hits) registered on the HitTrax. We purchased additional credits and let the attendant know it wasn't working properly. He came over and checked the machine, but seemed unsure of what to do and didn't offer much feedback. During the second round, only a handful of hits registered out of 18 balls. We notified him again. He refilled the balls and checked the computer, but never confirmed whether the system was actually recalibrated or functioning properly. He even through some balls and some were not registering. I asked about getting some ball credits back since we were specifically there for the stats, that's the whole reason we chose HitTrax. My son tried again (with only a few additional balls credited), and this time the system didn't register anything at all. On our way out, I let the attendant know that the HitTrax clearly wasn't working and likely needed recalibration. His response was simply, "Oh, okay, I'll work on it." There was no apology, no offer to move us to another cage for some x tra hits, no offer of replacement credits, and no effort to make it right. Place was empty mid day, so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed and busy with customers. After spending over $50 in tokens and having only a handful of hits register, it simply wasn't worth it, at least at this location. My son has used HitTrax at other facilities before, and it has been terrific when properly calibrated. The facility itself is nice, but the lack of follow-up and customer service was disappointing. We will try a different, well-rated facility next month when we're back in town!

The second game also started roughly 10 minutes late. We had the minimum number of players required to start (5 players), and at no point did any referee or staff member tell us we were going to forfeit due to being late. Near the end of the second half, a staff member came over smiling and sarcastically said, "You guys know you already lost the game, right?" This was the first time anyone had mentioned a forfeit. Naturally, we stopped the game to ask what was going on. The response was simply that we had already lost by walkover (WO). After that, our team decided to leave. What happened afterward was even more frustrating. A few days later, while I was working with a client and waiting for an important call from a bank, I received a call. I answered and only heard "Indoor 5," so I ended the call because I was in the middle of business. I never spoke with anyone about leaving the league. Later, when I asked why we had not received the schedule for the next games, I was told the manager assumed we did not want to continue because they had called me and I supposedly said no. That never happened. We never had that conversation. They removed our entire team from the league based on an assumption without ever confirming anything with me. When I explained to the manager Alfredo that I was working and never actually spoke with anyone, his response was rude and unprofessional. He compared the situation to losing a client because I didn't return a call. He said "if a client calls you and you don't answer or call back do you think they're doing business with you?" The difference is that before removing a paying team from a league, you should actually speak with them and confirm their intentions rather than making assumptions. Mistakes happen, but the lack of communication, the sarcastic treatment from staff, and the decision to remove our team without ever having a real conversation is absurd. Several players adjusted their work schedules and personal commitments to participate in this league, so being removed without any direct conversation or confirmation was extremely frustrating Everything happened this past week 5/25/26-Today 5/31/26

The facility has three courts, each equipped with a massive ceiling fan that players can control. Court 3, near the back wall, also has two giant swamp coolers, which is great for staying cool. Between the courts, there are tall net walls to keep balls from crossing over, though occasionally a ball will sneak through if it goes too high or through a small gap. During the hot Las Vegas summer, VIP gets booked quickly, so it's best to plan ahead. Each court can host up to 8 players, and rentals are available in 30-minute increments from 30 minutes up to 2 hours. Booking is convenient--you can do it in-store, over the phone, or online. There's also plenty of seating for spectators outside the courts. At the front lobby, you'll find cold drinks for purchase, and every time I've been here, the staff has been friendly and welcoming.
