Walking in feels like stepping straight back into childhood in the best way possible. Neon lights, funky carpet, bright colors, all the nostalgic roller rink vibes you could want. One thing I really love is that unlike most rinks that only do one adults-only night a week, Xanadu switches to 21+ after 8 PM almost every night. It ends up feeling way more like a nightclub than a traditional roller rink, and you don't have to worry about drinking around kids or dodging little ones flying across the floor. They've also got a concession stand with Frito pies, four different kinds of hot dogs, and plenty of snacks if you need a break. Definitely check the website before you go because this isn't the kind of roller rink where you just show up and pay seven bucks to skate. They host different events almost every night, and each one has its own cover charge. It's usually somewhere between $11 and $25, and can go up to around $33 if there's a musical guest, but honestly it's always felt worth it to me. I've caught some great local performers there along with iconic '90s dance acts like Ultra Naté. Lockers are $5 and you'll need a credit card to use them. I 100% recommend this place whether you're looking for a fun night out, trying to pick up a new hobby, or just want to do something different with friends. I swear once you go and see everyone doing tricks, showing off, and having the best time, you're going to want to come back and learn a few moves yourself. It's great solo, great with friends, and skating is definitely a workout, so be prepared to sweat. Dress cute, but keep it breezy.

(I'd cut it off after that as it's loud & most Seniors wouldn't like the volume & probably shouldn't be roller skating, unless they really know what they're doing). The infamous "Battle for the Brooklyn Bridge," as some pundits are calling it. We were on one of the five courts, and there I was playing my typical game dribbling the air out of the ball to get a struggle bucket. He was lowkey cooking me I can't even lie. His 3pt percentage from treball was odee shooting hesi hang pulls... I would never say this to his face but he is a wonderful person and a gifted basketball player... it's a shame he's 5'6. After the war of the behemoths, endorphins flowing from a good sweat, we just sat there taking in the sites and talking about how much we love the game. Basketball genuinely makes me feel like a little kid again. It gives me that pure happiness and sense of purpose that I have spent my adult life trying to replicate in something else. I must have skated for about 3 hours with only the occasional 3 minute break to catch my breath. In case you got hungry or thirsty, there were small mom n pop food and drink vendors by the entrance charging very reasonable prices. The best part was being amongst such talented skaters! I've only been skating three times now but I feel like I leveled up just by watching others here. Now you can only skate if you take figure skating lessons, you can only play hockey if you are on one of Aviator's in house teams, no more open basketball, no food, no bar, no arcade, etc. I used to ask when are they going back to full service - at first it was Federal Govt mandates (way after everything else ended), then it was that they couldnt find employees, now they dont even respond to calls or emails. it was such a great place for kids to go and now its gone.

It's perfect for those getting acclimated to skating. There are plastic assistive devices for little ones to skate more confidently. Be mindful of the various skill levels and parental oversight. You are skating at your own risk and some caregivers are more vigilant than others. Overall it was a pleasant experience on a milder $10 (admission and skate rental included) Thursday night. Pro tip: if you can hack it, the 4-5:30 pm Thursday session is the least crowded AND least expensive when school is in.
