My truck started wobbling like crazy on the long drive from Salt Lake to Reno, so I pulled over in Lovelock to regroup. It was late on a Saturday afternoon in August, and Lovelock is a very small town, so when I couldn't identify the problem myself I was afraid that I would be stuck in the outback of Nevada through the weekend and into Monday. I almost got back on the freeway, when I decided to call the mechanics in town just in case. Thank god Cash was open, because it turned out that my tire had bubbled in the heat, and if I'd kept going I surely would have had a blowout at 80mph. Once they'd identified the problem, changing the tire should have been easy but it turned out that the tool needed to remove the spare was missing some critical part. They MacGyvered an attachment, and with great effort, a lot of sweat, some blood, and a second jack they managed to swap out the tires and put me back on the road. Since it took two guys almost 2 hours to do it, I thought the bill would be several hundred dollars and I was shocked when it came to less than $100. Another thing that is very rare to find and I appreciated more than words can say is that they weren't patronizing to me as a lone female. I'm a small woman who travels alone in a big pickup truck, and often people in the auto industry are patronizing or try to take advantage of me. I'm no expert, but I understand cars enough to know when I'm being lied or talked down to, and these guys spoke to me with respect for more than just my wallet, and not in a creepy way. I made it all the way back to San Francisco on that tire without issue. If you're stuck in Lovelock and wondering whether you'd be safer driving or getting towed a gazillion miles to Reno or back to Winnemucca, don't risk it. These guys are fantastic, and they're open all day, often on the weekends even if their posted hours say they're closed. Call them first before AAA or risking the long drive to the next town.

They also performed an alignment (due to rocker arm replacement) oil change, tire balance & rotation and replaced the engine filter. I could see it was needed based on photos sent via the text. Jake found a replacement kit that included arms and bushings which saved me some money. Yay They also found the tires had been rotated improperly for an AWD. I highly recommend Frank's shop for the reasons below…read more We came to Fallon to visit our son for a few days. When we arrived, our water pump was making noise and leaking coolant - not good in the desert in August! Before calling repair shops, I looked online to see what's involved in replacing a water pump on a 2012 Toyota Highlander. I've changed a few water pumps in my 50 years of driving, so I figured it's not a big deal. I was surprised at what it takes to do this job! Everything is so crammed into the engine compartment that it's a rather complex job. A Google search showed estimates of up to $900 for a mechanic to do the work. Yikes! Things aren't as simple and cheap as they used to be! I called around town to shops recommended by friends in town. Everyone was booked two weeks out, including Frank's. Cathy, who answered the phone, sounded sincerely sorry they didn't have an earlier appointment since we're here from out of town. I asked if I could bring it in anyway and leave it with them and we'd have our son pick it up when it's done. She said sure, and if they have a chance to work on it sooner, they would, but she couldn't promise it would be done before we planned to leave town. I figured we'd borrow our son's second car and return it on our next visit. Not ideal, since we live several hours away, but doable. I took the car in and Cathy wasn't there. I figured she's out to lunch, but then I learned that it was her birthday and Frank had given her the rest of the day off to be with her family. So Frank was covering the front desk. When I told him the situation, he also didn't make any promises, but I could tell he really wanted to help us out. We chatted for a little while, and he talked about when he ran the junior racing program at the local drag strip. From the photos and awards on the wall, I could tell this business has a long history in this town. Long story short, the work was completed the day before we planned to leave town, and the bill was considerably lower than I expected - a double win! Frank and his crew took wonderful care of us and our car. They're professional and are the kind of people I'd want to be friends with. 110% recommend taking your vehicle to Marc at Hollar's…read more I can't say enough about how professional, obviously knowledgeable, and kind Marc, the owner, was through out the entire day/service. My car completely engine failed on a trip and I had my car towed, many of the high rated mechanics in the area could not even look at it until Monday. Marc said he'd be able to at least check it out today, he did just that as soon as I arrived, then professionally explained my engine's catastrophic failure, showed how the bearing failed and my engine oil was contaminated etc.(I don't know much about engines other than to change the oil and he explained the issue patiently and simple) and provided me a full write up. Marc was honest, thorough, and knowledgeable and I would 100% take my vehicle here for diagnostic and service in future, even though it is a farther drive. While I ended up towing my car to the nearest dealership because of this kind of failure seemed likely to be covered under extended engine warranty/settlement and dealership needed to make that call, I found the diagnostic information he provided helpful based on the engine failure happening with my vehicle- especially when speaking with the dealership and finding help.
