As a woman, a skilled backcountry adventurer, and a first responder, I was pretty disappointed by the lack of care and respect I got from the men who work at this store when I walked in a couple weeks ago. They were tone deaf when I said I didn't care about color of shoe. Also, they couldn't seem more disinterested in having an actual conversation or helping me. Great place... We walked in and were treated like family. These folks know their sports! We wanted to do some fishing, but had no equipment in our RV. They completely outfitted us with great rods and reels... set them up. Offered suggestions on lures... gave us about three great options for fishing spots around the area, and even suggested a great place for dinner and a beer. The dinner suggestion was great. The equipment we bought was excellent. We took them up on a fishing spot and caught some nice Trout and Salmon... All together, we saved a ton of cash vs going fishing with a guide and we now have equipment that fits in our RV and motorcycle... They also talked us into buying some really cool belts. I have one on now and have to say that it's now my favorite. We are from SC, but If were were anywhere near here, we would definitely go back. That's the best complement I can offer... read more

Bruno is the man. Coming from CA, him and his staff were some of the nicest people I met. They helped my wife pick out skis and boots that ended up being perfect for our time at wolf creek. Unfortunately the snow conditions got really bad and we had to leave early but they were kind enough to work with us. We are first timers to Pagosa Springs and Wolf Creek. We needed snowboard rentals for our kids and did some research on best prices and landed on Ski and Bow Rack. I filled out paperwork online and got a quick personal email responding letting know they got our reservation info and look forward to seeing us. They even answered some questions about my own gear that we own! The pick up process was so quick and they were so great with our kids. All of their gear was in great shape and condition. We ended up cutting our trip a little short so they gave us a small refund. They were very knowledgeable and very friendly. Also a convenient location coming into town. These guys are amazing. If you are going to be renting skis in Pagosa Springs there is no place that comes anywhere close to the level of service and the quality of equipment that they rent out. Their prices are fantastic and they just seem to really care about making sure you have the best skiing experience possible. For a type 3 skier with more confidence than skill, a type 2 skier with more skill than confidence, and two human cannon balls, they got us exactly what we needed. For the first time, I went ahead and rented the whole family demo gear. My wife and my kids were more confident on their skis than they had ever been before. The fit was perfect. Great job guys. Traditionally for spring break we rent our snowboarding gear at pagosa ski and snowboard rentals (they're cheaper). Unfortunately for them they were super tacky to us this year and we took our business elsewhere. Ended up at the Ski and Bow Rack and were very pleased! We got better maintained and more up to date gear, and super rad boards. Planning on making this our new traditional stop from now on! Thanks guys! Update: returned for our spring break 2015 vacation and it was even better than last year and they were busier! The female employee that helped us was so accommodating, friendly, and worked hard to get us fitted quickly, I wish I would've gotten her name! We will be back! Ski & Bow Rack is a long standing, local owned and operated Pagosa business. The owner Larry is usually right there next to his entire crew working away in the crowd. They have fair rental rates. They have good availability even in peak season for ski rentals. For winter sports, they've got you covered. I've never used them for much beyond that. There are only 2-3 ski/snowboard rental places in the whole town. I'd check with these guys first to see if they can get you what you need before going anywhere else. read more

Awesome store and friendly staff! We stopped in from out of town to check out this store and it did not disappoint. They have an archery range where its $5 a person and you get to have a fun time shooting at targets for as long as you want, it was my first time using a bow and so worth it for $5! They also have a great sale section with used boots, boards, skis, and much more. Not to mention a friendly staff that answered all the questions I had! They also rent, so rent here and save your self some money at the slopes. Cant wait to come back and check out the used stuff they have for sale! read more

The service here rocks! We had 6 in our party and the crew fitted them with skis and boots in record fashion, with patience and humor. A lot of good advice, too. My wife, who is hard to fit, was greatly impressed with how quickly they found a solution to her needs. They're flexible, too... If we didn't ski a day, we brought the skis back to the shop and they held the packages intact so we could pick them up the next day... easy in, easy out. OMG, where do I start...this place is the best!! I went in today with my mother-in-law (local) to get my elk tag and a few fishing items and it was painless!!!! I've had issues with other's "outfitters" regarding my out-of-state hunters safety certification card...not here!! Instead of being a pain in the butt, they sold me my tag and gave me a tee shirt! That's why I decided to drop a few bucks on fishing gear for my wife. This place has a long time loyal customer, that will return often. AMAZING SERVICE. I was doing some research in regards to local purveyors of archery supplies and Ski & Bow Rack seemed to be the place that really had their stuff together. So my mom and I made the hour drive to Pagosa Springs to see what we could find, as we were interested in buying bows to practice archery. When we arrived we made our way to the back of the store where there is an entire section filled with compact and recurve bows, arrows, targets, and accessories. There is even a shooting range back there! We met with Sally who is an EXPERT in all things archery and she helped us find what we wanted and explained everything to us. We would have been lost without her! She was so patient and let us shoot the bows to try them out and see what draw weight and size was comfortable with us. Ordering was a snap and in a week our bows had arrived! Sally set us up with everything we needed, gave us some time to practice to make sure everything was right, and reiterated to us that we could call at anytime with questions. She and her assistant were AMAZING and it was such a pleasure to do business with her. Can't wait to practice with my new bow! :D read more

Excellent customer service. We came here for the first time for ski rental, and the sales staff was very knowledgeable and took the time to get each of us properly fitted for gear. We came back after a day of skiing to get some adjustments made, and we were in and out in just a few minutes. Very reasonable prices and good quality rental equipment. read more

The service was excellent and the equipment we rented was top of the line. We arrived during a snow storm and we were allowed to take our equipment early without charge so we could avoid the incoming storm. The skis were perfect for the conditions and the fit was right on. When we returned the rentals even though there was some confusion about what looked like an extra day of rental a quick conversation cleared it up and we were on our way. Went in last Saturday to get some flies and ask about the river. I was directed to a whiteboard that I could barely read. Due to some head trauma from an active lifestyle, I have a hard time seeing small print and seeing certain shades of color. I asked the guide, Jamie Aponte, for help and he was extremely rude. I needed help finding flies, and he chewed me out and stated that I was being lazy and "not putting in the required work to catch fish". I have been in fly shops all over this continent and have never been treated like that. I had over $100 worth of merchandise and accessories in my hands, I put it all back and left the store. Jamie Aponte FOLLOWED ME OUT to the parking lot and continued to berate my wife and me. I calmly spoke my peace and left. I drove up the road to Let it Fly. The gentleman who owns it helped me find flies, showed me where to fish and was an absolute pleasure to work with. I spent a beaucoup amount of money and left the store happy. Ski and Bow Rack was my first stop in Pagosa, and my experience with Jamie put a huge damper on the trip. I have never been treated so rude. I will never go back to Ski and Bow Rack. Had Ski and Bow Rack simply been polite, I would have been a loyal customer and eventually solicited guide services. Fly-Shop Business 101 When a customer walks in the door and asks for a box flies, they are handing you a debit card and saying, "spend my money." If you are nice, they will peruse and spend more money. Get the flies, make the sale and keep your staff employed. I shared my experience with some fellow Outdoor Industry writers/personnel, and they were aghast. The town of Pagosa was a delight and made up for the terrible service at Ski and Bow. Chris Jarc at SOCO Motel is a fantastic human being, and I was honored to stay at his Motel. He showed us some great fishing and hiking spots on a map. Riff Raff was a blast and had good beer. Avoid Ski and Bow Rack for fly fishing gear. (I have no comment on the ski and archery side) Life is to short to be around toxic people. Poor customer service is a death knell for a company. Being nice is free. Being nice costs nothing. RIP Larry. read more

This is the second summer I have used them for trout fishing guide service. Both times in August, so not a great time to fish, but they found the fish and made the trips really enjoyable.
