Thought we'd try another ski rental company and had read good reviews. My experience wasn't good. We rented 3 sets of skis/boots/poles. Reserved it online, but the price was higher when we got there, I asked about the rate I had reserved it at (and had digital receipt). The checkin guy was friendly and said the system wasn't updating, and it'll be right when we check out. It wasn't, it was about $100 higher, when I asked the cashier he got really defensive, another guy tried to step in and help, but he wouldn't have it. In the end they honored the price, but his final words to me, in a sarcastic tone, "Are you happy now?" Will never go back. Also, if you have any issues with your fitting and need to exchange it's a hassle, getting off the mountain and driving there. I'd stick with Christy Sports, Steamboat Sports or Fleischer. read more

Was in Steamboat over the weekend (2/8-2/9) during the 2' of snow and I demoed skis, got my boot punched out to relieve some foot pain, picked up some smartwool base layers and was so impressed by the entire team. Bryan (boots) and Carmela (skis) the dude (forgot name) that mounted my skis. I ended up buying some Black Crows skis! So stoked about my new Atris skis! Carmela was great with her knowledge base on the ski, answered all my questions and got me the best deal. Went in to try and pick up a base layer, new ski pants, and possibly some winter boots. First employee seemed resistant to pull out boots for me to try on, watched me silently the entire time, and then told me where a mirror was in a curt tone. I would've liked to try on another pair, but I guess the sale isn't that important to them. Looked at some base layers and was torn between wool and synthetic choices. Asked another employee their opinion and they responded, "They're just different." Glad that was pointed out to me. The employee proceeded to follow me for the rest of my time there. Used to work retail myself, you don't follow someone for 45 minutes unless you're watching for shoplifting. I suppose they don't see many tattoos in Steamboat? The same employee followed me up to the till, as if they earn their commission not on customer service but on judgement and contempt. Would've walked out without any purchases, but hey, probably would've gotten frisked and thrown into a TSA security line. Having stopped in previously with the husband to rent skis, I found myself here most recently browsing the racks for a swim suit so I could hit the hot springs with my friends during our Steamboat Stay-cation! The GOOD: ++ Tons of options when it comes to sweaters, jackets, pants, and snow-wear! ++ Ski rentals (including boots and poles) here are incredibly reasonable! For the average skier you're looking at about $25 per day with an extra 15% off if you book ahead online! ++ They offer a free shuttle that will drop off your gear and either take you to your condo or the slopes! The BAD: -- A lack of fitting rooms left me waiting for an extended period of time for one to become available. -- The check out system was somewhat inefficient. They just had too many people trying to help and to few workstations to actually help. The UGLY: -- Even on sale, the suit was still insanely priced! Ugh! While I can say that the rental rates are awesome, I don't think this would be my first choice for purchasing items unless (like in the case of the swimsuit) it was my only option or maybe on clearance. read more

Dropped in to check out the gear (summer time). Great selection of all kinds of stuff. Jumped over across the street to the ski shop above the liquor store- had a challenger finding the stairs which were in the liquor store. Was a little put off by the salesperson working and his negative attitude about our skiing preferences. He made critical remarks which were untrue and just seemed overall argumentative so we left and didn't even look around. The after season sales didn't seem all that great anyhow. We returned to the other shop and rented some bikes for 3 hours. The prices were competitive for the area and the bike fitters were patient and worked expeditiously to get us in and out. They also provided good tips on trails/routes to fit our group. I will definitely be renting again before we leave. This location is also very close to the main core trail so it's Uber convenient! read more

Super helpful staff. I had an issue with my ski helmet goggle strap. I was given easy advice on how to fix this at home. I needed a goggle sock and was shown where they were and where an extra selection was. Then I needed ski straps and an employee took me to both types and explained both. We rented bikes and 15 minutes in we figured out the gears on the bike were broken (chain kept slipping off the gears) so had to bring back after trying to fix at the trailhead for 20-30 mins. I let my two friends go on without me as it was not worth keeping them waiting. Instead of obviously giving us a refund, they tried to offer me 50%... on a bike that never worked. I cannot recommend Ski Haus enough. We were staying at the Residence Inn next door, so admittedly it was very convenient, but the reviews speak for themselves. The rental process was SO easy, and the staff was super professional. The prices were unbelievable when compared with other rental companies closer to base. And the equipment was top notch! These were by far the most comfortable (if you can say that) ski boots I have ever rented. And the demo skis were perfect. They even have a shuttle in case you're not staying next door like we did. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

Terrible rental service... you call and they misinform you as much as they can. For example: you asked them if they can rent you a kid's bike trailer for your bike, then you get there and they say only with their bikes. Then you call again and they say yes to using your own bike. It appears no one knows what their company policies are. Total waste of time. read more

I love ski haus. They do such a wonderful job merchandising, have a full service ski shop, and is my go to every time I need to get new skis or a snowboard. This year I wanted to get my husband a special snowboard he has been eyeing and I couldn't find last seasons board so it was going to be about $1000 for the set up. Somehow over the holidays they were having sales on that particular board but it wasn't until the next day. Instead of having me come back they processed the credit and saved me about $200. They also gave me points at their store so I could buy another gift we needed. We come in every time we are in town and love their selection, sales, and staff. read more

If you want to rent skis in Steamboat this is THE PLACE to get them! Not only is their equipment good quality, they people there have such a good attitude! I have a lot of anxiety, and feel bad when I need to get a new pair of boots. However, the associates assure you that it's no problem. Everyone there just wants to make sure that you have the proper gear for you so that you can ski/snowboard efficiently, effectively, and not have to worry about anything. You can come get a new pair of boots every day and as long as you're satisfied with your care and equipment, they're happy. Amazing!!!! My son broke the mounting plate on his binding and they were able to pull the exact part from their stock of spare parts. Fixed the binding in 30 minutes for very little $$. Probably saved me $250 by avoiding buying a new set of bindings. Great group of people focused on truly helping out the customer. My husband and i have purchased multiple bikes, clothing, skis, boots etc from sk haus over the past few years. To the tune of about 15,000 in the past two years. Today while riding our mountain bikes my husband barely touched his brakes and flipped over the handlebars. We went to the closest bike shop (orange peel) and were told there was a recall on his brakes. They offered to fix brakes and said they would submit the bill to the brake company for the recall. We felt we should call ski haus re: the recall as this is where we purchased the bikes etc. After being put on hold several times i was told that we would have to pay $175 for new brakes. When i said i did not understand this given what orange peel had said the man on the phone told me that was the best they could do and that was "the end of the story". I called the manager to discuss this and she very nicely called me back stating the person on the phone said he did not know we had purchased the bikes at their store ?? If he had listened to my concerns instead of being RUDE he would have know i stated up front that we purchased bikes there. We will not be giving ski haus any more of our money. Orange Peel mechanics were very kind and helpful. We like to support local businesses. There are plenty of other places in town!! Dont waste money here. Customer service is non existant. OUSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE from DEREK and GREG I need to have my new Specialized road bike checked out- the head set was loose. I brought my bike into Ski Haus. The service techs were very nice and put my bike up on the stand to take a look. Derek and Greg worked on my bike together. After they fixed the head set Derek checked out a few more things and noted that the disk breaks were making a horrible squeaking sound ( it started a few days ago). He asked if I had time for him to fix the problem- YES of course!. I really appreciated both of them "going the extra mile" above and beyond. Now a days that is so hard to find. This year, I decided to finally buy new skis and Ski Haus made the process awesome. First, I live in Maine. I was visiting steamboat for a week and haivng rented from Ski Haus a few times before, I emailed them about the three skis I was interested in. Andrew returned my emails and said he would get me all set up when I go to the store upon arrival, but the skis I mentioned seemed to be in the right ballpark for me. When I arrived at the shop, 10 minutes before closing on December 23, I spoke with Andrew and he helped me to decide which skis I should try first based on our email exchange and our conversation. Within 15 minutes, I was out the door. I was able to demo the skis for three days and he was right, they were great. After the second day, I came in and in five minutes I was able to swap out my skis for a smaller size for day three. Oh, did I mention that day two was Christmas day. The afternoon of day three I came in and purchased the smaller ones and they gave me credit for the demo I had paid for toward the price of the ski. They also talked me through finding a good binding, I know nothing about bindings, and we settled on a reasonably priced binding. The salesman even told me to not look at any of the expensive ones as, "they are not what you need as a level 2 skier." Everything was ready the next morning for the rest of my skiing vacation. All in all, the service was top notch, the skis are great (salomon QST 92, 160cm), and I was happy to fly out of Steamboat several days later loving the skis I owned for the first time in years. Next time we visit, we are getting my wife new skis. Oh yeah, almost forgot, my daughter broke a BOA strap on her snowboarding boot and I asked if they could fix it while I rented a pari of boots for her that day, they said no because they would just fix her boot in the time it would take to rent. I have been to Ski Haus three times now due to issues with my skis squeaking. Each time the technicians were able to "fix up" the bindings, they would stop squeaking in the store and as soon as I got home would start again. The technicians claimed they have never seen this problem before and don't know what has caused it, so I requested a refund under warranty. The manager denied my refund request and the issue has not been resolved (the skis started squeaking once again when I got home). He offered 10% cash back on the cost of the $700 skis, which isn't a lot when you consider defective skis and that I have spent over $2100 at Ski Haus in the past month. Several locals on the mountain, who had heard the skis squeaking when on the slopes, said that Ski Haus would definitely give me a refund to uphold their reputation. I was in fact recommended to go to Ski Haus by my resort shuttle driver, who said he would not be recommending Ski Haus again if this issue was not solved. I won't be going to Ski Haus again and I know a lot of locals who won't be either. I recommend Christy Sports as an alternative. read more
