I was given a Groupon as a gift and I was ecstatic about getting a microdermabrasion service. However, after my session, I was pretty bummed how bad the service was - the esthetician (Nicole) was uninviting and abrupt. Sadly, the whole treatment itself was only 15 mins; she barely treated my skin with the microdermabrasion instead it was more of a facial massage with pumpkin and pineapple facial cream. I found Skinbar on Groupon. I came in for a dermaplane. The front desk girl was so sweet and so welcoming. They have a massage chair for you to wait in, which was like one I have never experienced. The space is small, but very clean and comfortable. The owner, Dawn, did my dermaplane. She took her time, was patient, and was a true professional. She is extremely knowledgeable and have me expert advice on treatments and creams for my skin type, without trying to sell me anything. Best of all, the dermaplane looked amazing and they have great monthly specials! I will absolutely be back! read more

Final update about Skin Bar: While Dawn is friendly to work with, I did not feel that Skin Bar was a good investment in the long run. After I had multiple appointments cancelled last minute, and all Nancy cared about was gossiping about the owner and other customers, I lost a lot of respect for this place. It felt like cheap salon gossip rather than a relaxing skincare experience and left a bad taste in my mouth. Studio: They own two small rooms inside Sola Salons, and it's more on the bargain side of beauty than the luxury side, but I had no issues with this. It was a little cluttered but relatively clean so that's okay by me. Laser: I have had all six treatments and saw temporary reduction. Skin Bar has a pulsing style laser (the quick zap kind) that is not painful. However, one year later, all my hair is back. I am not a hairy person whatsoever and have laser in the past with much more success, so if you are hairy this is not a good option for you. Skin care: I am definitely the kind of customer that isn't wowed by a lot of skin care treatments and I pick my aestheticians very carefully. If you've had a lot of facials and other skincare treatments before, the ones here are nothing special. Of my years of appointments they've been running anywhere from 10-40 minutes late every time, especially Nancy, and sometimes don't even bother to show up. This didn't annoy me if it's a one time thing, but I do value my time and drive a ways to come here so it became unprofessional. read more

Oh my gosh I love coming here! Dawn is an absolute sweetheart and does an amazing job. She's worked on my skin for the past 7 years. She has always recommended the best treatments and products for my skin and never tries to sell me anything I don't need. I am 33, and when people find out my age, they always ask what I'm doing because my skin looks so healthy and youthful. I owe it all to Dawn! I have had two sessions done of the Venus Versa with PRP, and my acne scars are so much less visible! I also get my eyebrows done by Christine, she does an amazing job. Dawn is absolutely incredible. I have had facials in Detroit, New York, California and more and have yet to find one I love as much as this woman. She is professional, her salon is always clean and her specials can not be beat. I referred a friend of advanced age who had sun spots to her and after a few treatments she was hooked. Dawn managed to remove them all over the course of a few months and greatly improve the look of my friend's skin. My only regret with this salon is that I moved away and cant visit her anymore. I had laser on my upper legs today. I was so impressed both with Dawn and the painless, quick procedure. The last time I had laser was about 8 years ago from another establishment. It was very painful and took a long time on my lower legs. I decided to also have a maintenance on my lower legs today after finding out how easy it is. Very unhappy with services provided at the Skin Bar. I purchased a package of 3 peels and only used two of them. After my first peel, my skin never went through any peeling, or had any effects at all and I understood because its a basic glycolic peel. On my second visit, they recommended that I do a Microderm prior and I would see better results. While receiving the service my esthetician comment that my face was looking scratched while she was doing the service but continued doing the service. Once I got in the it look as if a cat got a hold of my cheeks and I had fairly deep, visible scratches on my cheeks for the next week. I work with estheticians daily in my line of business (just not facials) and they were very concerned. So before I wrote this review I called the owner to Kindly let her know what had happened and I would like a refund on the final peel in my package of three. Not a refund on the prior services, just a refund on the unused service and the owner started aggressively texting and finally compromised and said she would do so. Well, I have yet to see a refund, I am still very unhappy with the services I received and knowing they don't take proper measurements as in signing waivers, asking if you are on any medications that could affect your skin and not using barbicide to disinfect - take caution when considering this as a place of services. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a facial, "1 Sanitas Pumpkin Enzyme facial with Microdermabrasion." For starters, this place is located in what seems to be a shared office space for beauty services, think office size spaces on a single floor. Interesting concept for hair or waxing services, but not exactly in line with the spa environment that is geared toward consumers who seek privacy and serenity. With that said, this "beauty office space" comes with no signs, and upon walking in there are no guiding signs or an info station to point you in the right direction. I went the long way, walked completely around, as I was stared by other patrons at other beauty stations along the way, before finally reaching Skin Bar which is actually a short walk to the right upon entering. Parking is not so bad, there's meter parking along the street, and there are parking lots parallel to the businesses. When I made my way inside, my esthetician seemed friendly enough introduced herself and asked me to lay down. I explained to her that I recently moved from FL, and my skin was reacting to the climate change. She suggested a glycemic mask to help replenish my skin, at an additional cost of $30. I agreed but asked her to reiterate what came with my Groupon. As advertised, I was to receive a pumpkin infused cleaning, exfoliation, custom mask (of course I asked why this couldn't be the masked I was being charged $30 for, but she said the mask I "need" is an add on), moisturizer, sun screen, microdermabrasion, & eye cream. In retrospect, all I really received were 3 out of the 7 listed above. As she started my facial, she left the lights on only realizing 20 mins into it that the room was uncomfortably bright. Shortly after, when I finally started to relax, she dropped a bowl on the counter making a loud abrupt noise that scared the Holy Ghost out of me. After jumping up she pulls me down, and proceeds to lather me up like turkey on thanksgiving, equally sloppy and messy, only to clean me up with cold towels and cold hands. When it came to extractions, the steam machine was not lined with a plastic bonnet to protect user from boiling hot water drips, so yes, I was a victim of burn marks. The extraction portion lasted, no exaggeration, 2 mins, where she squeezed my nose & chin once & declared she had finished. I was stunned, this is my favorite part, the SOLE purpose of getting a facial is to have someone else squeeze the juice out of you while you bask the glory of beautiful skin. When it came to complete the microdermabrasion, the fun really took off. The machine wasn't working, so I laid there as she troubleshooted the machine for 12 mins popping in & out of the room in dismay. Finally she says, I can't fix this, we'll need to switch rooms. Mind you, I'm naked with only a towel to cover me. With the sense of urgency in her voice, I gather my things and bee line for the door like if we were conducting a fire drill. So there I am in a towel walking across all those mini beauty salons to the end of the aisle where Skin Bar's second room, face and body bare, embarrassing much? I get there, and she's still back in the other room & this rooms door is locked. So I'm standing there, holding my things, greeting everyone as they enter the building. She makes it back, unlocks the door & apologized for the ordeal. I lay down and expect us to really get things in motion, considering all the time that was wasted. But nope, another esthetician pops in and says hello to the woman performing my service and leaves. A few minutes later, she returns & comes into the room and has a full fledged conversation with my esthetician. Asked her why we were there, advised her that there was a client scheduled to arrive in 30 mins, even introduced herself, as apparently the two had not previously met. I took my eye swabs out and gave this woman a look of wonder, how unprofessional can she possibly be? My esthetician then explains to her that the microdermabrasion machine is broken and encouraged her to examine the problem. She walks out and I think, "finally!" But low and behold, she comes back a THIRD time explaining that the machine just needed a "little tape" because air gets through. My esthetician hears my sigh and subtle throat clearing, I tried my hardest to be cordial, and asks her colleague if there is "anything they can offer me for having to walk across the business hall way in a towel (she attempts to whisper this while she's a foot away from my face, really?). Her colleague urges my esthetician to "take it up with the owner". The whole ordeal to troubleshoot, switch rooms and entertain conversations from the other esthetician took about 30 mins, but somehow I still ended up finishing promptly one hour after my arrival ( in what parallel universe is that even possible when facials within themselves take an hour?) In the end, I was offered $10 off mask price. Horrible experience, never again. read more

I LOVE this place. Dawn is highly educated in her craft and treats you like family. She wants you to get results with every service. I have had a series of micro needling. The first one was a basic micro needling service. The second I tried along with the Eclipse PRP. She also injected a bit into my lips since I had produced plenty of platelet rich plasma to go around. Got a Groupon for IPL and had treatment done by Shannon. I left there with really painful skin. When I got home, found that I had been burned all over my chest area where the treatment was done. This was my 3rd IPL treatment; the first two were done elsewhere with absolutely no adverse reactions. No one at Med Spa seemed to be concerned about my condition, just excuses why I was burned. LASER: I paid $750 for laser: underarms, lip, Brazilian and legs. I was hoping to be hairless in these areas but it turns out laser is hair reduction not permanent hair removal. Here are the reduction in hair one year later: underarms-70%, lip 10?, Brazilian 90% (needed 2 more treatments as hair growth was nearly 100%) and legs 80%. So I think Dawn should tell people when they sign up and have signed consent that it's reduction and that 8+ treatments are needed for Brazilian and underarms or it may all grow back and then people can make a fully informed choice without wrong expectations. Dawn's laser is one of the best ones and her spa is very professional. When you consider the appointments are only 15-25 min and you get 6 and pay $750, even with a Groupon for 90% off, it still is expensive. If Dawn offers any discounts verbally, make sure you get it in writing otherwise it will be difficult to try and get it later as the offer will be forgotten. read more

I read great reviews so I bought a Groupon for a Enzyme Facial and Microdermabrasion. When I arrived at my appointment I was greeted by Jill. Not to be mean but she had terrible skin with lots of acne. I feel that if this is your profession then you should take pride in what you do and your skin should reflect your expertise. As Jill opened the sliding glass door to the very small room the first thing I noticed was an over flowing basket of dirty laundry on the floor. My appointment started and Jill jumped right in. There wasn't much conversation of why I was there or if I had any concerns about my skin. As Jill started briefly looking it over she said it was very Dry. I acknowledge that statement but also noted it does get very oily though-out the day. As Jill was performing my Microdermabrasion she suggested that I could also benefit from Derma-planning to help with the dryness. I agreed to the service and the extra pricing. My appointment finished and my skin felt super soft. At the end of my appointment I asked Jill if she could recommend a moisturizer for my face. She recommended one that was not compatible with oily skin as I soon found out (later confirmed by the owner). Jill then told me if I wanted another appointment the owner would give it to me at the same price as my Groupon I used for this appoint. I agreed as I thought it was a great deal and prepaid for my next appointment HUGE MISTAKE.....DO NOT DO THIS). Around two days after my appointment I noticed my skin started breaking out. I stoped the use of the moisturizer I had purchased as that was the only product I had added into my skin care routine. My skin doesn't give me much problems and I have always enjoyed a great facial just to make me feel refreshed. As the next two weeks went on my skin got increasingly worse to the point my fiancé and family were commenting on how bad it had gotten. Everyday as soon I was would jump out of bed I was having to cake makeup on my face to keep from the embarrassment of my skin that now looked like I was a 15 year old going through puberty. I finally decided to research the treatment I had received and it is Highly recommended that if you have oily skin than these two treatments are not recommend. I will take the responsibility for the Microdermabrasion but Jill should not have recommended the Micro planning. I feel that Jill as the professional should have know that these two treatments don't mesh well with oily skin and recommended another treatment. After doing my research was very upset to find out what I had read along with knowing my skin was disgusting. I called the location back and simply said I would like to cancel my appointment. The lady that answered said sure, no problem. After she cancelled it I let her know I had prepaid for the service and I would need my credit card refunded. She proceeds to tell my she is the owner and she does not give refunds. I told her I did not sign anything and she replied that on her website it stated she does not issue refunds. She was Extremely rude in the way she was conversing with me over the phone. She offered for me to come and see her and she would give me a skin assessment and complete my pre-paid appointment. She asked if that is something I would be interested in. I did not want to but since she would not issue a refund I didn't want my money to go to waste. She proceeds to tell me that Jill is new to the industry and just turned 21. I was not sure what that had to do with anything beside that fact that Jill clearly was lacking in experience. I made the dreaded appointment with the owner after her super unprofessional phone conversation. I quickly jumped on line to check out her Non Refundable policy that she said was on her website. I quickly found her policy that states " if you do not cancel your appointment within 24 hours you card will be charged a $25 cancellation fee". Great to know the owner CLEARLY just lied to me. I called her right back and asked her if she could tell me where on her website it states NO REFUNDS????? I let her know what I had just read and she became very angry. As the conversation went on she pretty much implied that I was being ridiculous and in her oh so charming and professional tone told me she would issue a refund but I would need to text her the last 4 digits of the card I used because she was driving. I text her the last 4 as she requested. I soon got a very lengthy text and that she would have not recommended me the services I had received or sold me that particular moisturizer as it should not be used on oily skin. She offered to exchange it for something different but at this point I would rather throw it away that take the time to go meet with such a pleasant owner!!!! It has been about a month now since I was told I would receive my refund and I am stillllllllllll waiting for me refund around $100. read more
