Best seafood on the island! The staff was quick in getting our order and we were in and out in 10 mins. Their main displays showed current fresh seafood. They also had freezer full of frozen goodies (fish, crab, etc). If you plan to buy raw and prepare a boil at home, they have all the fixings you need. We bought an array of seafood. We did fresh raw oysters. Super sweet and not fishy at al. The shrimp and crab bisque was so good. We had some cooked scallops, snapper, blue crab claws, and shrimp. We opted with no sides only because we want to sample the fresh seafood. All prepared by them (medium and garlic flavored) and brought back to the beach house for an nice afternoon snack! read more

Prices have gone up in the past few years, but what's new?! The seafood at Skinner's is still fantastic and they've increased their steaming capacity so the waits are often shorter than in the past. It's still worth it to call ahead, but not during the last hour of service (roughly) when they shut off the phones and you have to make it to the store to order before they close. Shrimp is still the star with MANY options and they pretty much always have the elusive Royal Reds which I love even though they're flash frozen at sea since the fishery is so far away. Buy your [fantastically fresh] grouper early in the weekend since it often runs out these days, and if you want jumbo lump crab you'll need to order the previous day (in person or via phone) because they generally don't stock it due to price. There's always a bunch of lump crab and claw meat so no need to worry about that but for me I'll pay the extra for jumbo lump any day because it makes a huge difference. Just my opinion, but I'm right. :) Skinner's is still a friendly family-run business with top quality seafood and even some add-on and frozen options such as soups plus sausage, seasonings, etc. Bring your wallet (and pay in cash if possible), but definitely one of the best quality seafood markets you'll find anywhere and the steamer platters end up being a pretty good value for a great meal (we love the "local" Conecuh sausage as an accompaniment to the shrimp). Unequivocally Skinner's is a must-stop on a visit to (or near) Dauphin Island. read more

I was a little intimidated having to go and pick my own seafood and understand the ordering procedures, but in retrospect, it could not have been easier. I ordered the half pound Royal red shrimp plate, which includes corn and potatoes. Spicy hot seasoning. It took them about ten minutes to stream it all done. The food was delicious, and it continued to stay warm as we drove it to the very end of the island. The service experience can feel a little bit like Seinfeld's soup nazi, as the servers are generally pretty ready to get down to business. Don't let that deter you. Go try this place. Stopped by here because husband saw a sign for the gumbo. Didn't even realize the business name till we pulled in the parking lot. Went in and it is very similar to a local business in Pascagoula. They had a special on a 1/2 lb shrimp and I got it and the gumbo. Went to Cadillac Square and enjoyed a picnic with my husband. The steamer special had just enough shrimp and potatoes for a couple to share and was steamed to perfection. The gumbo had a very dark roux, but that made it extra enjoyable. I got a business card and menu and was informed that in Sept, they change to winter hours, so check back at that time. We got takeout 2 separate times and they exceeded expectations. We got scallops, Fish (tilapia), 2lb crab legs, 2lb red Royal shrimp, 1lb large shrimp. Husband and I ate there three times during our vacation. We had their seafood chowder which was great and the clam bisque which I would definitely recommend.
