    Shrimp dinner

Looked nice Short staffed Drinks came quick Food slow Short of help Food was just ok The shrimp dinner had zero flavor Shrimp itself should have been good the seasoning was blah The drinks the Bushwhacker was great Not a lot of choices on the island This was our last nice dinner on island which was a let down We could see they were struggling with help And there were many other parties who looked Unhappy after food arrived Hopefully it gets better Good luck

Dinner check. Read the suggested tip amount. It's double what it should be.

Appearantly the restaurants software won't adjust the suggested tip when they split a check. What happens is when you split a check 50/50 the suggested tip amount is on the whole check tricking you Into a large tip by both parties. Watch out.

    Fried Shrimp with potato salad

We began with a cup of gumbo and a cup of seafood bisque. Both were excellent and served at the perfect temperature. My Blackened Shrimp Tacos were nothing special. There was very little seasoning on the shrimp and they were overcooked. It was served with a container of picante sauce and sour cream. I think a premade sauce served over the tacos would have added a lot! I ordered a side of cole slaw. I ended up eating the shrimp with the cole slaw instead of the lettuce and cheese that was in the taco. My fellow diners ordered the fried shrimp. They said they were good but didn't have much seasoning. I would eat here again but I would probably just order the gumbo or soup. The service was good but the waitress was in and out so quickly that we couldn't speak up when she was there. The restaurant itself was nice. I was a little surprised by the people walking dogs through the restaurant multiple times.

It was a little cold on the island, so we stopped in for lunch with our friends instead of cooking outside at the campground. We had very good service, we managed to get seating right away and our server did a great job. I am terrible at remembering to take food pics. So sorry about that. We had a wonderful lunch. Luckily, we visit the island every year, so I will remember to post food pics next year

Our first visit - they are pretty busy, hopefully a good sign

What a shame, glimmers of greatness with insistent service from table to table. We sat at a table around 6:00 on a friday night. We were only given one menu and by the time we realized it, the hostess was long gone. Our waitress came after a while and saw us sharing a menu and asked for a drink order. We ordered a beer and wine. When she came back with waters we ordered food starting with the seafood bisque only because they were out of gumbo. The bisque arrived around 25 minutes later. It was very hot, the styrofoam cup it was served in, left a lot to be desired. But, it was tasty. Next she ordered the fresh fish of the day, mahi mahi with the vegetable of the day and sweet potato fries. I ordered wings, hot buffalo, with celery and a side of onion rings. Her fish was not hot and slightly overcooked when it reached our table. We also ordered peanut butter pie to go and a check. She brought the check and forgot the pie, I reminded her and she went to get it, that was fast because it looked like it was hurled into the container. While we were waiting several people in our area were commenting on the service or lack of it. The service shortcoming seemed to be one or two waitresses, a training project for sure. Given the amount of restaurants out on the island, we will likely try the others before returning here. The windows in this place could use a cleaning. Missed opportunities: Maybe offer up a 2ND menu. OR state when we were seated, hey we are out of gumbo. OR See if we wanted a second drink. OR perhaps assigned stations as the waitresses were all over the place. OR check on us after the meal was delivered, just the basics. I hope they figure it out.

Crawfish and a few oysters. :(

We been here several times and they always say the kitchen is closed. It was before time and people had to leave complaining.

The wait for the food was definitely worth it. Highly recommend their blackened fish tacos and homemade chips.

Equally as important the food is excellent, with various refrigerated options that you heat up in your house - you're in Dauphin Island after all so many/most folks have houses with a decent kitchen. And the restaurant options on the island are quite limited so pick up some good food to heat up "at home" and not worry about stocking up on groceries and/or cooking every night. This place as well as Skinner's Seafood are now staples of any visit to the island. The menu changes every week so check Facebook, but most everything is good and the only potential issue is occasional lack of full re-heating instructions. If in doubt, preheat the oven to 350 and take off any "clear plastic" tops then cook until it seems to be heated through - often more time than might be listed though admittedly we've also found that most rental houses on the island have ovens with inaccurate temperature readings. Check your food temps of course but plan for more time than listed on the instructions - and beware if you're planning to bake homemade biscuits, pizza, or anything that requires really high oven temperatures in your rental house. Just sayin'. Enchilada casserole, mac & cheese, breakfast casseroles, pretty much everything we've ever had from Dinner's Ready has been pretty great. And by all means get yourself some Southern banana pudding. Or two. Or three. You're welcome.

Seafood definitely seems fresh and local, my wife loved her grilled shrimp po-boy and I got a seafood platter with fried shrimp, fish, and oysters that were perfectly seasoned and tasty. We were very happy with everything, and liked that the shrimp were peeled & deveined which we prefer but was unusual to find when we lived in New Orleans. Service was good, drink options sufficient, and the top level has a pretty good view even if you're not seated on the window. We typically cook on Dauphin Island for various reasons including usually travelling with a dog, but Pirates is a gem definitely worth visiting on any visit to Dauphin Island. Bravo!

Imho, they were seating faster than each waitress could keep up and it affected our service for sure. They were slammed, so I left the 4th star. We ordered eveything at once as we were there a while before our waitress Tanya made it over. Beer / wine, gumbo, fried fish dinner with baked potato and fried okra, she had the ahi tuna with sauteed spinach. We finished with cheesecake and a berry sauce. Everything was tasty, I had a fish filet and enough okra for another meal. The view, makes this place, the building architecture, if you like that, I do, and the food is consistently tasty. When we visit the island going forward, this will be our first pick.
