This place was unique. We chose it because we could bring our dog, which was exciting, but overall the experience felt chaotic and honestly a bit pretentious somehow ? I totally understand and appreciate the no-spray, organic, regenerative farming approach (I literally studied environmental science and have worked on sustainable farms all over the country), but the whole operation felt disorganized. Not to mention that everything was extremely expensive, and the mandatory orientation is basically just a tour of all the bugs you'd find in your apples, which I get, but even I was like...yikes. We were able to find plenty of apples, but they cost us around $80 and the cider was $12 for a half gallon, which we actually had to strain once we got home because of the bugs we were finding in it. I spent a ton of time cutting around bugs and even had to throw several apples out while prepping apples for apple butter. It was delicious in the end, but I wouldn't have eaten these apples raw. The staff also seemed pretty miserable and unfriendly, which was disappointing. Overall: not worth the cost. :( read more

We wanted to go to Skipley Farm because they have a variety of fruits to pick--I am surprised that this place doesn't have 5 stars across the board. Reading other reviews, I notice that some people are expecting a "yuppie" type of farm with big paved parking lots, fancy restrooms etc. etc.--when this seems clearly like a family/local community run farm (who is not catering to those who want to "feel" like they are in nature but not actually experience it)--they want you to come and experience the delicious locally grown crops. Yes, there is random junk in some parts of the farm, but would you rather have an "Instagramable" experience and pretend to be picking fruit, or have a blast adventuring for the best berries and leave with wonderful fruit to snack on, cook, & bake with. I would take the latter! It's $5 flat fee for adults and you can eat as much as you want, "Come hungry, leave full" is what they say. Then it's $3/lb flat for all fruit. WOW! How can people say that is expensive...I think that's reasonable considering the fruit is local, and it's part of the experience of getting to pick your own fruit and know where it comes from. The people who work there are genuine and kind--they gave us short and sweet ('to the point') directions around with a map, telling us what is available to pick. They also have buckets for you in various 'pound' sizes. They take cash, card, or check. They also have apple cider (which we bought) and some pre-picked veggies since those plants were still babies and not ready for people yet. Obviously many people come through the farm so while they do their best to say what will be ripe/available that weekend--it's a toss up--but that's part of the fun, seeing what you can discover and maybe you'll be surprised on what you find. For example, most of the blueberry bushes were picked through and weren't expecting to leave with any, but we were able to find a few bushes that still had some. Hands down, the best blueberries I will ever have. And yes, sometimes fruit on the trees isn't ready, and yes, some on the ground have holes or munch-bites from critters, but I did find some great apples and pears this way which were delicious. There are some insects amongst the fruit vines and bushes, but that is to be expected--we even saw a small frog on a blackberry plant leaf, (picture attached below, so cool!) They have farm dogs that lounge around. They're incredibly loving and I even played fetch with one with an old apple. We payed at the end, and left feeling content having enjoyed a fun, local farm experience. This was the first apple farm that I went to, and even though it was disappointingly empty, the owner was very helpful and provided a very detailed orientation about different types of apples, farming, and the history of apple farms in general in Washington! It was definitely more of an educational journey rather than the traditional apple picking I've seen in the movies; which was okay since I went around November and was not the right season. Most of the apples left on the orchards are mostly infested with bugs or just looks very sad~ which also means that they do not use a lot of chemicals. However, the grapes on this farm is to die for. They are really good! Overall, I think that it's a really nice place to learn! Would probably come back again once apples are more of in season! read more

This was our second visit to Shipley Farms and the experience was even better than we remembered. The farmer is a very creative and friendly person. The orientation at the beginning is very informative and entertaining. The farm practices are earth friendly teach a lot about natural protection for fruit plants without using chemicals From the pick-our-own list the plums were our favorite followed closely by apples, grapes and pears. They even sell plum trees and we bought a starter plant this time. Totally worth a visit and we plan to be back again! read more

Nice picking farm in the middle of other houses. Easy to find parking as they have some spots. You will soon find grape lines and if you walk up you'll find the apples and animals. They are very friendly!! Owner also. He is very knowledgeable and has courtesy and time to explain differences between grapes and apples. Today we had a wonderful time picking apples with my two kids aged 9 and 6, their friends aged 10 and 15, my husband and his mother aged 72. We enjoyed seeing all of the different varieties of apples and wine grapes growing on the farm. The kids enjoyed visiting the goats and chickens. We saw an old school bus on the property and other quirky old vehicles scattered amongst the fruit trees. The cashier was great about giving us a map and letting us know where the most ripe apple varieties were located on the farm. In the end, we picked a total of 21 pounds of apples! Tonight, we enjoyed some Honeycrisp apples with our dinner. We will definitely want to visit this farm again in the future. The only thing I can give a heads up about is that the terrain is uneven whilst picking apples, so elderly people may have a tough time navigating the orchard. Also, be prepared with the parking the gravel is uneven and if your car is low may end up getting scratched on the underside. Plenty of parking is available. Parking off-site is an option, but you will need to walk a few minutes away. read more

9/16/2023 Gil was fine & I enjoyed picking my own apples. I realized as I was finishing up that I should have someone take a photo of me on my phone. Friends have been texting photos of their fun fall activities, so I thought this would be a perfect activity for me to send to them! I looked around & there were a handful of people listening to Gil's orientation, so I didn't want to interrupt & ask one of them. A woman was walking toward me so I asked if she'd mind taking a couple of photos of me on my phone. As I was taking my phone out of my bag she asked me how long she thought it might take. I was thinking to myself that it takes literally SECONDS to snap a couple of pics of someone. I wasn't talking about glamour shots or setting up an elaborate arrangement...literally a couple of pics on my phone of me holding up the basket of apples I had just picked. I think we've all been asked by someone at some time or another if we can take their photo, or we even offer to take someone's photo if it looks like they're trying to get a selfie that we could easily assist with & it literally takes no time to do. I mentioned to the woman that it would only take a second. She informed me that she was "on the clock." I didn't even realized that she worked there since she wasn't wearing a nametag or anything. Again, I wasn't asking her to take 100 pics, just snap a couple of me holding my apple basket. I was like, "Oh, you can't take just a couple of photos?" She again said, "I'm on the clock!" I said, "okayyyyy, fine. I'll find someone else," & she walked off. All of the other guests were still with Gil & I didn't dare ask the young boy behind the register since he was likely "on the clock!" If I worked somewhere where I had a product, beautiful scenery, etc. for people to enjoy, I'd be so pleased to be asked to take their photo. If the boss saw me doing that & had reservations about me doing something outside of my normal job duties while I was "on the clock" I might remind him that it could be great advertizing for our orchard. People might post their pics to Facebook or a Yelp review & encourage others to come, right? Instead, my overall experience was not that great due to the interaction with that woman. Disappointed, so next fall, I'll be visiting another orchard instead. read more

This farm is located less than an hour outside of Seattle and totally worth the drive. Parking is at the bottom of the farm and you can walk up to the entry through the grape vines. At the entryway you can get a basket and a worker will give you a rundown of the farm and what can be picked and what to look for. This place is rustic, so be mindful of the ground your walking on as sometimes it is uneven or will have dips. That being said, I loved this farm! There was lots of apples on the trees and we were able to get plums. I wasn't sure how ready the pears were that I could reach so I left them alone to ripen. In about 3 weeks, mid September, we were told the grapes would be ready for picking. This is a great visit for couples or families with children who are a little older. read more

What a great experience for our family! This place is an authentic working farm with an excellent variety of u-pick apples, grapes and other produce. We've done the big commercial farms with hay rides, petting zoos and the rest of the three ring circus but Skipley was so much better. Here the produce takes center stage and you are encouraged to let your curiosity lead the way and explore the orchard without a map. Kids all around us were asking insightful questions about where food comes from or giggling in excitement as they ate a grape off the vine for the first time. If you want a farm that feels like a carnival, Skipley isn't that. This place is down to earth in the best of ways, with friendly staff and chickens roaming the property. We went to Skipley Farm in search of apples, unfortunately the rainy spring in made that not possible. Instead, we paid the entrance fee and got to roam around the farm and taste the grapes. The owner was there and provided us with a little orientation to his farm and was very willing to share what he has learned about farming. Coming here you start by attending orientation with the main guy running the place ( it's more like a homage to himself ) telling the crowd how amazing he is! Next walking around you better bring your boots because the entire place is one giant manure pile.. at the end you will end up leaving with two bags of apples one bag of grapes for over $120 dollars.. you decide if this place is right for you. Definitely not the place for us. I've been to plenty of u pick farms in my day and their all usually fairly priced and much cleaner. This farm was nothing like we expected and so thrilled to have experienced it for what it is. This farm was more like an apple and grape museum to us than the typical u-pick farms we have tried. Our family was so giddy exploring the different varieties of grapes and most of them there we have never tried before. How special!!! We spent two hours with our young children romping around. We spotted frogs, hummingbirds, chickadees. A very magical farm indeed! Thank you for having us. We came home with plenty of organic fruit to turn into goodies to savor during winter. STAY AWAY. The owner was not wearing a mask, claimed farmers don't wear masks and there was no hand sanitizer in sight. The owner gave us a lengthy introduction to the farm while not staying 6' away from me and my 4 kids. He was talking about how he had snakes all over the farm to keep the mice away and was scaring my kids. I said we were from New England and knew all about Apple picking to try and redirect the conversation. He seemed annoyed and asked me if I'd heard enough. I said yes hoping he would stop so my kids wouldn't be terrified. He proceeded to insult me in front of my kids and other customers calling me impatient, and then complained about me to other customers after he walked away from me! If we hadn't drove an hour from south seattle to Apple pick (we moved from New England last year so it's a special memory and annual event ) I would've left right then. I then spent $85 on apples with the admission fee (though we didn't eat any apples because of the lack of expected Covid compliant business practices). I would never recommend this farm to anyone! read more

Farm experience: I feel super bad giving them a low yelp review especially since I really wanted to like it. But I feel the need to provide my review to help others properly gage people's expectations when it comes to their apple/fruit stand and farm. I was super excited when I saw their advertisement for the farm tour/apple tasting/20 apples/cider of $30 on Groupon. I immediately bought it because I love visiting farms. We drove all the way from Seattle thinking that we were going to a farm. However, when our gps told us to make a left, we pulled up to someone's residential property. I guess their small farm is located next to their home. It is more like a garden and not a farm. When we walked up to the "farm" from the parking lot, there was a ton of old appliances lying in the front yard. We thought it looked more like a junk yard rather than a farm. There were a lot of people already there so we really didn't know how the tour worked. It was kind of chaotic and my family and I just stood there. The apples on display were teeny tiny! They were the size of plums rather than apples. Some people were making cider and they were using buckets from Home Depot. The entire cider making operation did not look clean at all. I don't think the apples were washed either before being made into cider. I looked around and saw a guy working there sitting down rubbing his foot with his hands. We decided to leave because of the cleanliness factor. I think my reaction would have been better if my expectations were set correctly. I wouldn't say this is exactly a "farm" but more of a family garden. All the other yelp reviews were on their landscaping services so I couldn't really gage what to expect. If you go down the road to Bailey's Farm, I'd say that this is a real farm. I'm sure the people here are really nice. It just wasn't for us. read more

I don't hesitate to write this review but am disappointed to given that I want to support my local community and farmers and I support the intended mission of this farm. That said, my experience was truly horrific. The farm is not well kept - it looks like a junk yard in places and the habitat for the ducks is concerning and hard to look at. We went there for the apples and it was difficult to find any that were ripe or decent tasting at best. Those reasons though are not why I'm writing this review. I brought my 6 month old Golden Retriever with me who is extremely well behaved and has never had any issues with other dogs. The owner has his dog off leash and when we got there it approached my dog and snarled at him. The owner of the farm did absolutely nothing while his dog continued to harass mine meanwhile all the guests wondering why he was just sitting there continuing with his bizarre speech about why he's so great. I kept trying to walk away and the dog just kept following me. When we left, his dog was blocking the path and had a ball in his mouth. I had my dog on leash on the outside of me and away from his dog to avoid the dogs bad behavior. His dog then proceeded to viciously attack mine. My dog screaming bloody murder and the entire crowd of people beyond horrified. An angel of a human jumped on the other dog risking his own safety to pry it away from mine who did get injured (my dog is ok but didn't leave unscathed). What's most horrifying is the owner of the dog and farm did absolutely NOTHING! As I was leaving he said "that's what dogs do" and that my dog "instigated it". Truly appalling experience and horrible human and customer experience as a business owner. I'm beside myself furious with the owner of the farm. All the other employees are wonderful and this review is not a reflection of them. read more

WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS if that was an option. Do not waste your money. Picked different kinds of apples and grapes after being talked to by an employee not wearing a mask. Should have just left. Zero disregard for their customers. Each apple variety tried at home was subpar at best. 90 percent of the apples we picked had brown spots. The other 10% had mold in the center. See pictures. Bigger issue: COVID. In addition to being talked to by someone explaining in lengthy detail what apples are in season sans mask-- I was also forced to be within 6 feet of the checkout fellow to pay - this person (owner?) was not wearing the mask and even made comments that insinuated he doesn't believe in the virus/is somehow exempt from basic public health precautions. Looks pretty ridiculous given half of our government is in the hospital for this virus. Farms have fresh air, yes, but that makes no difference when you are so close to your customers. It is against the law- any business that operates with workers who are within close proximity to customers are REQUIRED to wear masks. Terrible. Just to reiterate in case you forgot- the apples and fruits weren't even good. I am all for organic farming and responsible use of the land but many farms do a far better job. Organic apples don't have to be filled with rotten spots! The fruit was some of the worst I have had. All in all an extreme disappointment. Love this farm! It's different from some other farms, but it's so much better. It's a REAL farm. Yes there are broken down trucks and busses but they were really cool, especially for my 2 year old who looooves that stuff. I appreciated how much the farm cares about sustainable, organic farming, and they really care about educating children. John got right up down on the kids level to talk to them about bug bites, smells, etc. It's nice to see someone actually care about teaching children and don't see them as a nuisance. This little farm is such a hidden gem and really perfect for pictures. read more

I had heard some positive comments about this place and the closer proximity to Seattle compared to other farms was very appealing. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. Similar to what another reviewer stated, there were indeed some old appliances and an assortment of junk in the front yard. The place did not look inviting and we were unsure if the place was even open. After a few minutes we found a man working in the back part of the lot who invited us in. He was the owner and he was very informative about his passions for growing fruits "uber-organically". That being said, he explained that most of the fruits you will find there have insect holes and may look "ugly" but that's because he doesn't use any form of pesticide. He even went on to say that the fruits with holes are sweeter, and proceeded to offer us a sample. He also explained that he chooses not to cut the grasses around the fruit plants down because it provides protection for snakes, which in turn lower the rodent population down that eat the fruits. (Yes, snakes!) I appreciate his efforts to be organic and be as environmentally-sustainable as possible but this farm is better suited for educational purposes than for families looking for a fun pick-your-own outing. read more

Attempted apple picking at this farm. This was my first time apple picking, so I can't compare to other apple farms as far a quality of apples or price. But, I have been strawberry and blueberry picking at other Snohomish farms this season. This would probably be an OK place if we weren't in non-covid times. The farm was busy. I wasn't comfortable with the check-in talk being given by someone not wearing a mask, the check-out line not properly social distancing, the check-out person not wearing a mask, and the baskets for collecting your apples not sanitized before or after each person uses them. I was not that impressed. The staff was friendly and we got some nice produce, but the prices were high (like more than organic at the grocery store). They also didn't want us picking from the tree only the ground which meant that most were wormy and half eaten. The directions from the parking area were not very good with only one small sign. I can't say anything for the actual farm experience; based on the online customer service I received though, I can assure you that the people who run this farm are nice folks who aim to please. I searched online for a place to buy scion wood. Skipley farm had a good price and a wonderful variety. I ended up buying only one scion because I only have one apple tree to graft too, but I really wanted to buy more based on the selection. Even though I only bought one piece of scion, the man who corresponded with me answered all my questions and shipped the scion wood on my time schedule for optimal grafting. The wood I received was healthy and well packaged so it would not get harmed. The website was a little rough, but since the man is a farmer and since web site designers are expensive I will not fault the man on that. I would recommend that if possible the paypal section be set up a little better; I'm decent with math, but someone who isn't might have trouble figuring out the total cost of sale, by calculating the total cost of shipping, product and 3 % paypal fee. Then again, if I had been less impatient I could have simply asked the owner and he would have calculated it for me. Thank you Skipley farms for the pleasant experience and the addition to my garden. It's fine to charge very very high prices. But it's not ok to insist you have to pay first and then tell you it's going to cost $100.00 for the apples. There were no scales to weigh our apples and they wouldn't tell us how much it would cost until we paid. And no returns. I wasn't planning on spending one hundred dollars. I have bought fruit trees, berries and grapes from Skipley Farm. Farmer Gil couldn't be more knowledgeable or helpful. He has excellent stock and only grows varieties that do well in our climate (unlike big box stores that sell things that they know wont grow successfully in our zone). The owner is crazy. He goes into a speech about how society is going to collapse and if you dont grow your own food your going to starve. He says this in front of kids and scares them. He thinks Covid isnt real and refuses to wear a mask and asks that others remove theirs, he says theres no reason to social distance because your outside.. Then tries to give a long speech about how the apples with rotting spots and bugs are the best ones so not to avoid picking those . All the apples are super tiny and most look like they're rotting. We got about 3 lbs and the majority we cut into had mold on the inside! We threw away almost all of them. The place is a mess, rusty sharp equipment laying around, glass on the ground. Idk how this farm got on any apple picking lists but noone should be recommending him. read more

We arrived at the end and the website & proprietor tried to convince us we could find apples on the ground or if we looked hard. They were ALL rotten and worm-eaten. We weren't really sure what to expect based on negative reviews. However, we had an incredible time. Parking was no challenge. There were old appliances out and about but I do believe that it is a natural part of visiting a working farm. The farm itself is beautiful and I think the various parts add authenticity. John (owner) is a really cool guy, knows a lot about grapes and farming in general. We met a wonderful family of very friendly dogs, chickens and goats! The farm itself was spacious, lots of fresh produce available to pick. We had great time sampling each variety of apple and really appreciated that the ones in season were marked. However, avoid the fuzzy pears! (not quite in season yet) We found the price to be quite reasonable, we got 25+ quality apples and a wonderful experience for $18! All in all, I recommend Skipley Farms to anyone who wants a fun experience at a U-Pick farm with an abundance of fruit, memories and good times. read more

This place is the bomb! I went here after randomly searching for apple picking in the area, decided to go as our last outing before school starts for my preschooler. While driving on the way, I was slightly scared after reading other reviews about maggots and whatnots, hence expectation was low coming in. We are pleasantly surprised by what we see. Yes, there are old appliances and tools laying around but that's what makes this place wholesome and authentic. Lots and lots of apples to pick from. They are sprayed with clay now so they remain organic and we don't have a hard time finding pristine apples to pick at all! Got 3 baskets, prepared to pay $50 but the owner put all in one big $25 bucket. Talking about honesty! We met John who entusiastically welcome us and show our way around. The owners are extremely passionate about what they do being uber organic and doing good to the community. They are definitely a rare gem to find in this superficial, profit seeking world we live in.
