Our waiter was friendly and thoughtful, giving us a pitcher of both hot and cold water without us asking. I ordered the strawberry milkshake, and while it tastes good, it's a smaller portion than expected. (But then again I'm from the U.S. where portions are huge!) The color was different from the picture in the menu, but was still yummy without being sickeningly sweet. Service is a bit slow despite the restaurant not being crowded, but the restaurant must have been understaffed in the summer/low season. We ordered large BBQ chicken and parmesan truffle pizzas, and while they looked delicious, it tasted like the chef had skimped on ingredients and toppings. The parmesan truffle pizza was bland and average at best, but I recommend getting the BBQ chicken pizza! It's not as good as American pizza but it was the best dish at Peppe's. tl;dr: Overall would give this place a 3.5/5 rating for nice service and atmosphere, but mediocre food. Get the BBQ chicken pizza and milkshake!

There is no music in the restaurant, but the decor is quaint and reminiscent of an old country tavern. We tried the hallingstuenes nevamat as a starter, and I had grilled mountain trout as a main. The hallingstuenes nevamat was excellent, and each of the four miniature dishes were artfully presented. The trout was a bit overcooked, but the sauce was perfect and the accompaniments were delicious. Overall, I would highly recommend Hallingstuene for a Norwegian dinner in Geilo if you don't mind a bit of a wait.

Driving down from our cabin we were excited to get to Fagernes to treat ourselves to dining out. We were a tad bit late and actually got into a small car accident rushing to get there before closing, but luckily the owners saw how desperate and frazzled we were that they kept the restaurant open for us. Fantabulous customer service! I ordered the spare ribs, my father had the steak with Bearnaise and my mother ate the house special of fish and chips. Portions were more then generous and very large. My ribs were excellent, the meat melted off the bone and they even had a sprinkling of rock sea salt which just enhanced all the flavors. Next to the bar is homemade bread that you can snack on before the main course, we enjoyed the spelt bread and carrot bread. If we hadn't been so full we would have bought 11 loafs of bread. Free coffee and tea too! The owners are Danish and on the weekends they hold service in their restaurant. Although I'm not a church goer I value this quirky addition, warm fire, fun art work and the owners feel like family. If I had it my way id stop there going up and coming down each time I made a hytte trip. Love this place. Makes the trip so much better :)
