Originally wanting to go to the Staircase Rapids trail, but it's currently closed because of the fire. To save our trip to the Lake Cushman area, we popped into the Skokomish Park area and paid the day fee and for an hour on a double passenger kayak. The water is so fresh and clear, very clean! The views once you're on the lake are breathtaking. We enjoyed our kayaking journey and chilled for a bit exploring the rest of the grounds after. It's a great, quiet, and safe recreational area where you can spend the day or overnight camp. The rangers in the office as you check in and the guys that help you with the kayak are all friendly and helpful. It was a great experience and we definitely plan to come back! read more

The location is great on a beautiful lake. Water access for boating, swimming, fishing. We did all 3. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lots of stuff for kids. Clean facilities. But...it is very expensive to camp with what you get (almost $300 for 3 nites). Our campsite was VERY narrow; no privacy. It was not peaceful since they cram so many sites together and no sound barriers. The far back tent sites may be better for privacy. The single bathroom building in the middle of the loop is OLD. The toilet stalls are so small! I could barely squeeze in and out by standing beside the toilet (yuk!). The worst part is there is only ONE shower stall for all the female campers. AND you need quarters! For as much as we paid for camping, that is ridiculous. We won't camp there again. $20 for the day use area is a much better value. read more

This was an area of Washington that we've never been before and I was excited at the prospect of hanging out, relaxing by the water. We stayed two nights in the walk-in camp area and it was fairly quiet and cool. This does seem like a party/large camp out type of place. The trees by our campsite were hacked and had burn marks, but still growing if that makes sense. You can rent stand up paddle boards and kayaks at their shop. I didn't partake but my partner did. Next time I'll probably go for a kayak. The lake is gorgeous. Clear water, had a swimming area, some picnic tables scattered around. At night you can see the milky way which I love love love to look at. The bathrooms could use an update as they were very dated, dingy and some of the locks don't work. They do have coin operated showers though, which looked decent. read more

Our family stayed here for two nights in July and loved it! It's a really ideal spot for kids for so many reasons - beautiful sites close to the water and general store; walking distance to the lake where they have single and double kayak and I think stand-up paddleboard rentals; and a public "beach" at Lake Cushman with seating, picnic tables, tons of shade. The campsite is nicely developed with clean bathrooms and roomy sites. It's a little more per night that your standard state or national park, but site amenities and property location more than make up for that. Outside of the amenities at Skokomish Park, the staffers there are all friendly and over the top helpful. In two days we interacted with multiple staffers and all were beyond helpful and nice, including (1) my daughter dropping her hot chocolate after buying it at the general store and staff insisting she replace it for free and (2) kayak staff being so nice and accommodating despite us obviously being their very last rental of the day (and probably standing between them and the end of the workday). However, the most over the top service we got was when our truck battery died and we went up to the general store to get cell service to call for a tow; when staff heard the issue, they insisted on jumping our truck that day, and when it died again overnight, they again insisted on jumping it rather than us calling AAA. The young couple that helped both times even refused a cash tip, saying they couldn't take it and were happy to help, and made us feel like it was sincerely no big deal for them to assist. Lake Cushman is beautiful and this property was the perfect way to experience it. Highly recommend! read more

This isn't a state park, so you have to pay for a day use pass. The lake swim area is nice. It's on the smaller side but it wasn't packed with people so it was okay. The water is really shallow for quite a way which is nice for the littles. The swimming area is marked with bouy cords. Bring your own shade. Great place to kayak or SUP. The park in general looks well kept. The bathrooms were clean. Lots of parking. We'll be back next summer and try camping. read more

So on the phone they have great customer service and answered a lot of my many questions. Once you arrive you check in and head to your site. Other than that I barely spoke to or saw any of the employees around. (Other than the front check in) We had a walk-in site and was told our car wouldn't be too far from us. So from what we could tell there was no real designated parking spots for walk-in sites and basically was first come first serve for the parking in our walk-in areas. Which was more like a small clearing ) . It isn't bad if you have a small car but most like us have SUVs or trucks so it takes some maneuvering to get our car in the "parking spot". Still wasn't bad I did very much like how our spot was way in the back (made it a bit harder to unload our stuff ) but also made us more secluded. If you brought a boat like us it will take forever if you try to park your boat near the walk-in site. Other people at the walk-in sites had boats too so really only one boat could fit there so it seemed like the others would take turns trying to get their boat parked there first. We didn't even bother since it was already a hassle just getting our suv parked near us. (And by near I mean that it more closer to the walk-in sites near the road than us) Our site was NOT cleaned very well but no big deal. There were cigarette butts and beer caps everywhere and hiding about three feet from our site in the woods was a big bag full of trash (could be raccoons dragged it there though) Our site was on the small side (site 98, will post photos later) but it seemed all the sites looked a bit small to me. But we were still able to fit our huge 6-person tent and a small 2-person tent on site. But I can't imagine camping in the same spot with more than one family. Our site does have a trail right next to it so random people would walk by but it was mainly in the day so we didn't see people walk by too much other than when we were preparing to leave to the lake. We loved all the tree coverage because it made it so much cooler at our site. Then you have the lake (we drove to it all the time since we had to launch our boat everyday (we had to park our boat near the launch as well since there is no real parking to get the boat near our site) The lake is amazing. Beautiful sites and you can find yourself a secluded spot like us everyday and just enjoy with your family. And along the edges of the campsites were various rope swings (trails can lead to these as well) we drove our boat and parked it and spent the day swimming / rope swinging. Then if you drive into "town" there are piers you can put your crab pots out and have crab for dinner. We got no service at all while there but I see that as a good thing as it kept us all off our devices and let us truely enjoy our trip. (I do agree however with another reviewer that it would be nice to have phones around the site for emergency purposes. All in all we had a great experience and will probably return just in a different site more because the parking situation was a but if a hassle. But we still loved it and made it work. read more

While I might not necessarily call this "camping" it is definitely set up for families and kids to potentially have a great time. If the park would possibly invest some of the revenue from the high fees into paying for bathroom cleaning, night time security and fixing the movie projector, it would make it less painful to pay more than 50$ per night (for a tent site) We have stayed here a couple times over the last few years and the kids love the swimming area and island, the water is crystal clear and feels good to swim in (unlike most lakes in the PNW). There is a cool trail you can hike up a couple miles and explore the north side of the lake and they offer paddle boat, SUP, and canoe rentals. An added bonus is on gbe weekends at the amphitheater (if the system is working) they offer movies for the kids and popcorn. Sadly the projector wasn't working last time we went but the visit before, we really enjoyed watching TMNT. The park has even recently added early morning YOGA classes every Saturday and surprisingly since it's not packed with people eager to do yoga while camping, it keeps it nice and makes for a relaxing start to your morning while you work to forget the loud group camped by you the night before (more on that in a bit). Now for the less than lovely parts...there are aspects I find super annoying: the overly close campsites (reach out and touch your neighbor) the outrageously high overnight price for a basic tent site with zero, I mean, ZERO hookups (expect to pay 52$ per night before tax PLUS 20$ per day for a second vehicle, PLUS the reservation charge, and charge if you need to make any changes to your reservation (they hit you where they can). If you are bringing any type of camping vehicle, RV etc, plan to pay MUCH MORE and be squeezed in so tight to the RV next to you that you'll worry your door opening will dent in their door. The website lists wifi access but I can confirm there is no wifi within a 30 mile radius. They have and do try to keep it kinda quiet at night but with the crowdedness and that one (it wouldn't be city camping without them) group that tends to be there everytime- and partying until 2-3 am. The last 2 hard parts- the amount of traffic through the site loops means extra caution with kids walling or on bikes and the closeness of campsites means if the 3 neighbors crowding around you have a campfire your lungs are going to burn! With all this said, you might ask- why do we come back the last couple years? Well, the rope swing, the swimming area, access to Olympic Peninsula, as well as the kids absolutely ALL (and i mean everyones kids in the whole campground) seem to absolutely love it. read more

Really nice campground near Hoodsport with access to the water, decent sized sites that are well maintained. Hiking from the south to north camp was nice as well. The south camp is more of the traditional campground you'd see at State parks while the north camp is a bit more rustic. Both are nice. The staff was very helpful and had a great attitude when we arrived as well as during our stay when we had questions. Bathrooms were clean though the dumpsters need to be emptied a bit more frequently as they were very full. The lake is absolutely beautiful and fairly free of boats. It was a pleasure to launch and cruise on the water without being toppled by huge wakes. A really lovely body of water in the mountains. Would definitely stay here again. read more

Overall, I have no complaints of this place. It was our first time camping here as a family this summer. We got a nice private camping spot, and our neighbors were very quiet. The restrooms were decent, mostly clean and the showers worked. The shower was coin operated. The lake was beautiful and the water was so clean. The day we went, it was cloudy. I would love to go back when it is hot outside. I would love to return next year for camping. read more

The one star is for the beautiful location and clean bathrooms. This appears to be a party campground. Our family spent a lot of time listening to drunk people, foul language and loud music. The day staff (there was no one on duty at night) took our names down and said that their manager might call us but she/he never did. One star for the beautiful trees and are that one can enjoy while being there. Otherwise I would say this is a very overcrowded campground, that is very overpriced (we paid 50.00 for a walk-in camp site!!! If we were not desperate we would have left immediately), they say campsites start at 20-30$ but then charged 50$ for a non electric, non water tent site. The bathrooms were not clean and no locks on the stalls so the doors would not stay closed. The swimming area had floating trash in it that was from people leaving their crap there after they swam. If I can help it I will sleep in the woods somewhere else in the future. read more

I cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our time here! We spent two nights in site 98, a walk-in tent site. To put it simply: It was secluded, and surrounded by beautiful greenery! Very lush! Not to mention that we had very easy lake access -- a small trail ran from our site to the water, ending at one of two rope swings you can use to splash into the blue/green water below. This is very likely the most beautiful place I have ever camped! Reasonable rates, friendly staff, peace and quiet galore. We will definitely come back here again! As an added bonus it's pet friendly and our dog absolutely loved it here as well! read more

The campground overall is nice, however the low rating is given because of the staff. We are camping for three days and paid ahead of time. When we booked we had a choice of the last 5 remaining spots available at 40.00 a night. Once we arrived we were told the price changed due to more campers staying. They have a price that adjusts nightly and your required to pay the difference or turn around and leave. We showed up being forced to pay an extra 10.00 a night!! Who does this REALLY!!! What is the camping free when no one else is there?? Very disappointed!! We will be staying down the road next time. read more

This place was awesome! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The sites were a little close together but there were so many trees it didn't really matter! Sites are close to the lake which was nice. There are select dumpsters in the campgrounds so bring a trash bag for your site. Quiet hours are 10pm-8am. People seemed to respect those hours, lots of families and kids. The lake is HUGE! After a horror story at Lake Cushman resort my family moved our entire camp to Skokomish park. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The site we got was large and roomy. The beach area was nice. They even have an offleash dog beach, which is a great benefit. The firepits were the bests I have ever seen, they actually built a platform around them of wood and rocks, so no more tripping over that stupid grate at night when its dark. Which also means, that you can have a fire even during burn ban. My mom and I walked around and scoped out campsites for next year. We plan to go back for sure. read more

Our first time two years ago was delightful, but this weekend the park was anything but quiet and peaceful due to trailer campers stsying up and making noise until midnight. The park does not include quiet hours on it's website or handouts. Very disappointed. read more

The family came out for a fun trip of kayaking. We rented out a tandem for the day. We noticed kayaking out that the kayak was going in circles and zigzagging along. We just figured that it was our paddling technique. After struggling to get back to the rental location and bringing the kayak up above water, we noticed that the rudder was missing. We inspected the other tandem kayaks that were also out and noticed one other kayak was missing a rudder. When we brought this issue up to the staff, we were questioned as to why we waited until the end to bring it up. We explained to them that we didn't notice until we were done. They then claimed that rudders dont make a difference. We then asked to speak to the manager and was given a full run around and ultimately was told the the manager will be contacting us, without getting any of my information and was rushed off the phone. I highly recommend finding a different place to rent a kayak or be sure to check on your equipment because the staff is clearly unreliable with maintaining their equipment. read more

We got married in Skokomish Park over Labor Day weekend. The location was absolutely beautiful. The park staff met with us before the wedding to answer questions and worked with us during the weekend. The staff made sure the site was clean and even accommodated some additional requests. They checked in with us throughout the weekend to make sure everything was going well. The group campsite easily fit all of our guests who wanted to camp and everyone had an incredible time. We hope to visit Skokomish regularly because it certainly holds a special place in our hearts. read more

My girlfriend and I rented a tandem kayak. We went out and struggled both in heading out and coming back zig-zagging hopelessly in circles and found it very difficult to even get back to the start. We thought it might be a problem with our tandem paddling technique, so we did not think the kayak was the issue. When we returned to the rental office, we noticed that most of the other kayak's had a rudder with the exception of kayak's T1 and T3, that would have kept us going straight. When we sought a refund from the office, we were told 1) The lack of a rudder is not a problem. 2) We should have notified them sooner. 3) And that the staff regularly kayak's all the time. When we tried to speak to the manager about the issue, we were side-routed and dismissed. We highly recommend renting from anybody else if possible. There's barely anyone staffing the dock and the equipment seems extremely poorly maintained. read more

Great location if your idea of nature and camping is loud music, partying and late nights. The group camp is used as a wedding venue with amplified music and generators. This can be heard throughout the entire camp, exceeding the quiet hours of 10pm. Staff is incredibly brash, unhelpful, unresponsive and could care less. Can't recommend this place to anyone unless I guess it is your wedding. Take your chances at the NF camps or Staircase just up the street. This is a glorified KOA with terrible customer service. read more

Nice location right on the lake. Some campsites better than others due to openness in some areas and thinner trees. Nice bathrooms with a shower. Friendly staff. Nice to reserve online in advance. Now some suggestions... As with most reservoirs, there is no natural beach, so many rocks and steep shoreline. Would be nice for the swimming area if you bulldozed a more gentle beach and ever as a few bags of sand to keep it nice! Water is beautiful as is the setting. At 4:30 am I thought we were being invaded by UFOs with a strange roar and a whooshing sound that was loud enough to wake me up. Since I didn't see anything buzzing overhead I figured we were safe from alien invasion but still curious as to what could make such a powerful, strange sound. Found out the next day that the logging camp up the hill above the lake fires up each day at 4:30. Must have some powerful machines up there. Despite all this, if I was able to reserve one of the better campsites would return. read more

I really loved this park. It was quiet, amazingly beautiful, and a lot of space for each RV site! Even though it is early spring, the draw for us was the hiking in the Staircase area, Mt. Ellinor, or Rose. Also, not far from the Hamma Hamma wilderness. If you do not wish to venture to the Olympic National Forest which is only down the road, the park has its own trails, and you could get in a pretty good workout navigating their 550 acres of trails. The only caveat is that you do not have any cellphone service; the only reason I am complaining about this is the potential for a medical emergency, or a rescue emergency; what if the Park Ranger or Camp Host was not available, and would you leave your significant other or friend/family if they were having a life threatening emergency so you could run to find someone to call 9-1-1? How much time would you be wasting if this was the scenario? I was just having these thoughts, God forbid anyone ever had a life threatening emergency while camping here, you would not have the autonomy to call 9-1-1 on your own. I believe this is more an area issue, than an actual park issue. Otherwise, wonderful park, and we will return! read more

Made the best of it. We made reservations a week in advance. We were not notified of a burn ban so our wood was useless and had to re arrange things we were going to cook on the open fire. The next campsite was so close it was only separated by a tree (literally). Every campsite around us smoked. The campers next to us also smoked pot throughout their stay. Our 11 yo complained her head hurt from the funny smell. My daughter and grandson had to listen to foul language from campers as well as DVD's or live streaming of foul mouth comedians. There was constant inappropriate music being played without regard to anyone else. When we complained, the solution was for them to look for somewhere else for "us" to move. There were many campers there to "party" and we heard them throughout the night. There was not a designated swimming area where we were. You had to drive to another area. We found broken glass in the lake and out of the lake. The 2 car per campsite was not enforced at all. I think many either new this or didn't care. The majority of sites broke this rule. The staff was nice and the area beautiful but I do not believe we will use this area for camping in the near future. read more

The walk in tent sites are great! Very nice fire pits, decent amount of privacy and space. We were able to set up three tents on one walk in spot with no issues. The walk down to the beach isn't terribly far. The beach day use area is great. We spent the whole day floating around on the water. It's essentially car camping but if you're going to car camp this is a great place! Not terribly far from Olympia. read more

Really pretty location on the lake with nice swim area and boat launch. Campsites were spacious and manicured and had great firepits. However, this campground was fairly expensive considering the outdated amenities (i.e. old restrooms, water spigots that didn't work correctly). Our biggest complaint, though, that will cause us to never return, is related to the lack of enforcement of their rules. We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2016, and after 2 nights of dealing with neighbors who were drinking heavily and making a lot of noise until after 2a.m., we finally reported the situation to the front office. The girl there assured us that Security would come around to enforce quiet hours throughout the night, but no park employee ever came around. Shortly after 10pm, we asked the neighbors to please quiet down and to stop cussing and swearing since we have two little girls, so they left their campsite for a while, but they left their huge barking dog unattended. Eventually another camper had to take the dog away. Around 11:45pm, the neighbors returned and immediately started drinking, talking and laughing and swearing, and playing loud music. We went to the front office to try to report the situation, but there was no one there and no way to contact an employee. So again we had to take matters into our own hands and talk to the neighbors ourselves, which we should never have to do. The next morning, after we packed up, we went to the front office and reported this whole story to the two employees there. They said they couldn't do anything about it other than email their manager Candy; they refused to give us Candy's contact information. And neither Candy nor anyone else from the park has ever contacted us about this situation. There were many signs posted that said to "please drink responsibly" and "quiet hours will be strictly enforced", but obviously the management does not take either of these things seriously. Not somewhere I will ever take my family again. read more
