I booked the space about 6 weeks in advance online having never set foot in the place before. The venue is great and conveniently located in Tanforan Shopping Mall. The mall is completely dead, but this playspace seems VERY popular! Booking was a breeze and I emailed the coordinator the week prior to confirm details. Cindy was super responsive and easy to coordinate with! She let me come the day before to set up the party room and helped me get tablecloths and some decor in place. Being able to set up our balloon arch the day prior and they fact they provided a backdrop frame/stand was a game changer because the next day, I just had to bring in food and we were all set! We had about 50 guests at the event (adults and kids) and all the guests were SO happy to just walk in and let their kids loose. Everything is padded and super entertaining for all the kids (ages 1-8), so it was VERY easy for the parents to actually be able to hang out and chat without worrying where their kid wandered off to. Clean up was a breeze - Cindy made everything so easy for us and didn't pressure us at all to wrap up and get out. We put everything in trash bags and off we went. Because: - the party coordinator I emailed with was always quick to respond, did so thoroughly, and everything was seamless. - the party host (Mike) was awesome. Friendly, patient, helpful, and a good attitude. There are def some workers here who seem like they may be having a bad day or just don't want to deal with people (noticings on previous visits), but Mike is not like that. I'm grateful we had him! - venue and party room were clean and ready. The set up was exactly as described with an extra table for adults outside the party room. Tableclothes/napkins/plates and a backdrop stand (poles) and tape for decorations were provided. - staff will clean up the party room after, but we did majority because I feel it's rude to just leave everything for one person to clean up after. - our party was from 11-2pm, however guests were allowed to stay and play until they wanted to leave (or until next private party starts). We didn't feel rushed or pressured or stressed. Was probably the best part of the experience. - since there was no party the night before, we were able to decorate the night before the party and I was elated. I don't understand how some places only offer 30 minutes for some quick touches. Works for some but not for me since I enjoy going above and beyond when it comes to decorating. We had time enough to build the balloon arch from scratch and hang up everything else. I will note that the party room has a lot of blemishes on the wall, so I recommend bringing decorations that will cover them. I used balloon clusters and photo printouts. Our total came out to $880 and was well worth the 50 guests we hosted. Wholeheartedly recommend booking a private party here.

You'll have to sign again at the register, but it will save you a bunch of time when you arrive. Ok...for our experience. It can feel a little overwhelming when you first arrive if you haven't been there before. Having people walk in, with their own helmets, acting like they own the place will have anyone unsure where they should go or do when they first arrive. The staff make it feel very welcoming and friendly. After I finished check-in, I felt like the people with their own helmet. Tyrez helped me at check-in. He was patient, professional and friendly. When I say patient, I mean PATIENT! I had four kids with me and when it came to head covers alone, he got everyone what they needed even though I had to prompt the kids multiple times to come to a decision. We got there, but it was rough and Tyrez was amazing throughout! He even explained everything to me so that I wouldn't be caught off guard by anything and wouldn't end up frustrated...or at least that is how it felt. Next, know this. When they are running adult races, it's loud in the track area. Because I work safety, I have my watch set to alarm me when the sound exceeds the OSHA permissible exposure limit. It went off a lot. So, I measured the sound. It can get above 100 decibels. That's loud. Not as loud as a rock concert or fire truck siren, but it will make it difficult to have a conversation. You may want to consider ear plugs...or ear buds with noise canceling. The races are run very efficiently and they alternate between youth and adult groups. One safety feature the do great is that they are never on the track, together, at the same time. Safety seemed like it was well managed. When impacts happen, they throttle down the carts, to ensure everything is safe. One note though...and I see this as a huge positive...they let you RACE! Yes, they pay attention and focus on safety, but they don't scold or stop because of a little inadvertent contact. I was truly impressed by the balance they maintain there. In my group of four, two were a little scared and didn't race all the races we purchased (I bought the SpeedPass for each and it seems like a really good package for first timers), but they were amazing at helping me re-assign them to the others in our group. Luis helped me there and again, he was patient with me and helped ensure we got everything transferred correctly. He also answered all 5,000 of my questions throughout our visit. No, not really 5,000, but there were a lot. He was amazing! If I had any criticism at all, it would be for the game area. Many of their games weren't working because of a network error. It was disappointing for me, but it hit the kids hard. They should have someone dedicated to that area as it was never empty while we were there. I would imagine that having all working correctly would result in increased revenue. Overall, we had an amazing adventure there today and Tyrez and Luis were part of the reason why. Their track team was the other part...I just wasn't able to get their names. If you're looking for a new adventure, this is an amazing way to spend a Saturday!!!

You walk into a large naturally lit lobby, with local event flyers and news on display, as well as Millbrae branded merch (hats, shirts, etc) for sale. There is a reception desk with staff there to help and answer any questions. I came specifically to pick up a custom SF Giants Kleenex box that I ordered at the recent Millbrae Art & Wine Festival. We were greeted by Laurie, who was very friendly and told us all about what they had to offer at the Rec. Center. Just behind some glass doors near the lobby, is a game room. This is mostly targeted towards kids, with a giant TV and various video game systems to play with. We saw around a dozen kids hanging and playing in this area as we walked by. As you continue down on the first floor, there are classrooms, conference rooms, and even a giant hall that can be rented in full (or half) for private events! They also have a kitchen connected, which is helpful for events serving food. There are several clean and accessible bathrooms, as well as lots of fun historic photos on display. They have a Fitness Center with various equipment, and space for aerobic classes. There's also a room dedicated entirely to Ping Pong! If you get hungry or thirsty, there are two vending machines with drinks and snacks, and several water fountain/refill stations throughout. There is also an entire upstairs area. In addition to private rooms, there is a "Senior Lounge" which has comfortable seating, a large TV, and a half-kitchen. There is an outdoor patio connected up top with over a dozen lounge type chairs to enjoy some fresh air. They also have space for outdoor activities for people of all ages. There are multiple playgrounds for kids, in addition to multiple tennis courts and a large field. The Rec. Department also oversees many other fields (school and other) and a skate park, according to their website! If you live in (or near) Millbrae, you gotta check out this Rec. Center! I especially appreciate that the instructors provide hands-on guidance to help kids through each activity instead of just letting them wander and explore on their own. For toddlers and preschoolers, I personally preferred The Little Gym over some nearby gymnastics programs that seem geared more toward older kids. It's also reassuring that some instructors appear to have been there for years, which feels like a good sign. The birthday parties were easy and low-stress. We dropped off food and decorations ahead of time, and the staff handled setup, led the kids through activities, and served food very efficiently. Pricing also felt reasonable compared to some other party venues. Having Mountain Mike's Pizza right next door was an added bonus for party food and convenience.
