After touring SoulShine, a virtual group tour, we were not impressed and felt that prospective families should know about the schools structure before applying. This group of facilities does not operate to the level of a preschool and instead would be better reflected as a nature based daycare. The director who toured us was over the Kirkwood location but we saw photos of all three facilities. The rooms were well furnished but the curriculum in each space was greatly lacking with a student-led approach focusing on centers rather than a structured teaching day. We did not hear about the daily curriculum or milestone tracking for our students development. The tours involvement of curriculum seemed to be focused on what they had in each space (toys, playgrounds, book corner) rather than the learning. We were immediately put off at viewing the Kirkwood location when shown that the infant room opens directly to the outside of the building. While I am sure there are safety precautions in place there is not a way that I could feel comfortable as a parent knowing my newborn could potentially be interacting with strangers that approach the building. We will not be applying to this or any of the SoulShine locations and feel it is a overpriced daycare option and severly lacking preschool option.

This school has been such an amazing place for our kids and an incredible community for our entire family. The play-based learning and conscious discipline approach has given our kids a great start, and we have loved the opportunity to be involved every step of the way. We've made life-long friends and strong connections to the local community that we'll carry with us even after we leave the school!

Got my kid into all 3, and chose IPCP. Why did we choose it? The co-op approach. It's not for everyone -- you might just want a transactional relationship with your preschool, you do you -- but I was looking for a place where I could feel more involved. The coolest way to get involved is as a Parent Helper -- 1 day per month you get to (have to) work as a teacher's helper in the classroom. That's a lot of fun, you get to see what your kid is doing all day, and you learn a few new songs. Also love the outdoor focus - unless it's pouring, kids spend almost half their day outside, which I think makes my son happier and less cranky. The biggest downside is that they have limited space. So may Lady Luck be on your side.

My 4 year old started here for preschool in 2023 and will be at KFCDC for Pre-K starting in August. Both of my kids have thrived here academically and socially. The teachers we've had have been above and beyond and have been with KFCDC for years. They post videos of the kids activities every day and provide excellent feedback during scheduled parent-teacher conferences. They promote kind and encouraging behavior amongst the class and reinforce this behavior. The Director is an outstanding and communicative leader and is quick to respond. The school has an excellent safety protocol and I have never been concerned or worried about my kids' safety. They do fun, creative activities with the kids each week. More importantly, both of my kids have always looked forward to school here and literally run through the door. When I pick them up each day they are happy.

If you want your kids to be more than just smart, to be Great human beings, This is your place. The…read morewhole culture puts being caring, honest, upfront, and respectful front and center. I see it in my kids every day. (ok, almost every day. They're still humans! :)) But they really do learn in a much more varied 'landscape' of people, of cultures, family structures and points of view and they are better for it. Plus they are getting all the tools for great conflict management skills, a key predictor of happiness. And that's the icing on the cake of solid academics. My kids are learning, and most importantly, they are happy and confident, they feel loved and like they "belong" at their school. (They beg me to stay at aftercare to play with their friends!)

However, as a psychologist, I also knew that I wanted a school that had a focus on social-emotional development. I feel so lucky to have found the Friends School for my son. They sincerely practice what they preach. My son has ADHD, and the teachers were exceptional in identifying his needs, using targeted strategies to assist him, and communicating with me about ways to support him. Despite his challenges, they never lost sight of his unique strengths. Now that he is in first grade, he is thriving. And, the beauty of it is, because it's a small school, his current teachers already have some familiarity with him and have been able to give me great feedback about his improvement. The focus on ensuring that kids are well-rounded citizens is also a real asset for FSA. My son is courteous, kind, and socially aware. He talks about helping the homeless, eating healthy foods, and caring for the environment. He gets adequate exercise and sunlight during the school day (which research shows is linked to greater energy and concentration). He is learning conflict management skills, mindfulness, empathy, and how to be a good member of a team. As someone who works with business leaders, I know that these lessons will be invaluable in his life. I once told the headmaster that he radiates warmth. His demeanor is so kind, upbeat, and positive - he never looks like he's going through the motions. I believe that he sets a great tone for the rest of the school. I can't rave enough about FSA. I'm so lucky that we found it!

We really love our child's teachers and feel that they genuinely care about our child and his…read moredevelopment. The school is in our neighborhood and we love that so many of our friends' children attend here. The tuition is at the higher end of normal range for Atlanta, but we feel that the quality of care and programming is worth it. The biggest negative to this school is the director is an unpleasant woman, to put it nicely. She is often the person at the door in the morning, and she acts like she would rather be watching paint dry than greeting us and our child - not how any parent or child wants to start their day. If that wasn't enough, she is rude and openly hostile if you question any school policy or procedure, again, not what you would hope for when you have your child's safety and well-being in mind. Most of the other parents we know who attend here, and all of the staff have had the same reaction to her that we have had, so I am not sure why she is still employed here. It is unfortunate because otherwise this is a great preschool.
