Brooklyn the hostess was sweet as could be and explained the meats that were on display in the dry aging cooker as she seated us. Nico was a perfect server, available but unobtrusive. The space is dark and moody with a great bar area around the corner tucked in back. A great start to a wonderful stay.

Aside from…read moreendlessly boring, synthetic, fast food boxes, the only decent meal is usually a local BBQ joint. Yet, things are finally starting to change and Auld Alliance is one such example. Much like the way it is in Scotland, where countryside is filled with incredible dining experiences, Auld Alliance presents a meal to remember in a traditionally elegant atmosphere. With Scottish motifs throughout, the menu is heavily oriented towards game like quail and boar, along with venison and aged steak. The team, like the bartender Carrie, are simply amazing and attentive. It's a level of professionalism and attention to detail that would have been impossible to imagine just a few years ago outside the bigger cities of the state. The quail is phenomenal, delicate and flavorful. The hand cut fries here are maybe the best out there. Sides like rumbledthumps are a must. Filet mignon is spectacular. Some of the prices are a bit excessive speaking relatively to other statehouses in the state, but the quality is there. Thus, Auld Alliance is a spot that's worth a detour and a must if in the area.

At first, servers were scarce, but as I got up to go to the bar, the bartender must've seen me and was on his way. He took our initial drink order. At $14 per glass of wine, we just went for the bottle at $54 and a charcuterie board at $27. We are on vacation, so why not. The view is excellent. The weather cooperated. People watching from on high was fun, and the nature scenery was nice. Service was a little slow, but not an imposition, however, if it gets much busier, that could be a thing. We later learned they previously had a $10 cover, but we did not get asked for this and it must be a thing of the past, or I understand it is waived for guests of the Edwin Hotel (the bar's affiliated with the Edwin) but we had dinner reservations at Whitebird, the affiliated restaurant. The charcuterie was good with cheeses, cured meats, jams, crackers, etc. all in all, the star is the Al fresco seating and the River, and of course the company of my beautiful wife! So, go for outdoor seating and bring your own beau!

If you want outdoor seating, get here early because space outside is limited. Inside, there's plenty of seating options with high-top tables, couches, and bar seating that create a relaxed atmosphere. We came mainly for the view and drinks, and the view absolutely delivered. Watching the sunset over the river was easily the highlight of the experience and worth seeing at least once. For drinks, we ordered Old Fashioneds and Margaritas. Unfortunately, both were just average and didn't live up to the setting or atmosphere. Service was also disappointing. The staff was not very attentive, and at one point we actually had to leave our table and go to the bar to find our waiter. In the end, the incredible view couldn't make up for the mediocre drinks and poor service. Great view, but this ended up being a one-and-done visit for us.

Fortunately, after 6pm it's both free and easy to find nearby. As a solo diner I was initially relegated to the bar but, I don't drink so I asked for a quieter table and within 5 minutes they accommodated me with a seat by the windows upstairs. The inside is gorgeous and they have a nice patio as well. Beautiful and low-key but elegant decor. Service was excellent and extremely proficient. Never had to ask twice for something and easily able to answer menu questions and make suggestions. I actually hadn't planned on ordering the Fattoush but, when I said I loved tomatoes it was recommended and I am so glad it was. It was a standout. In the end I ordered 3 things bc I was dining solo: -Hummus with crudité (veggies instead of bread) -Fattoush - seasonal ingredients. -Red Snapper - about 3oz so small portion but perfectly cooked and flavored. Loved this. I very much wanted the knafeh dessert but I knew the portion was big and didn't want to be miserable and waste it. They have a nice non-alcoholic menu with some interesting drinks as well. Overall - perfect final meal in town and I can't wait to come back with my husband and try even more!

I sat inside where there was table, bar, and highboy seating. I ordered the Smoked & Fried Wings buffalo, with upcharge for flats/drums and an extra sauce (one Ranch and one Bleu Cheese). And the Shorty Johnson, which is a pair of deep fried back-wrapped beef dogs with a side of fries. The wings were scrawny without much meat. But the flavors were great and the smokiness came through. And the buffalo seasoning was nice and the flats were tender. The Blue cheese dipping sauce was chunky and had a good flavor. The Ranch dipping sauce was boring and did not have the punchy flavor of a hand made dressing. The carrot and celery were adequate. The hot dog was properly cooked and drained and the bacon wrapping had a good texture. But there was no bacon flavor, although the flavor of the dog itself was good. The bun was dry and flavorless. The side of fries were cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned and a good portion. Service was barely adequate. They delivered the wings but did not provide any napkins and I had to wait for them to pass by and get their attention to request them. My drink refill was also a bit slow in coming.
