Football+Thanksgiving -- not always the perfect combination.
    Stephanie F.

Croft restaurant at Cloudland at McLemore was the only thing disappointing about the magical resort atop Lookout Mountain. We were there for Thanksgiving, and spent over $600 on our meal, and it was quite average. The seating was especially disappointed as we had made our reservations well in advance and were seated in a makeshift area at a conference room table with conference room chairs that were not comfortable. There were two giant TVs playing a football game right by our table. Unlike the rest of Cloudland, this indeed was not magical unless you were wanting to celebrate Thanksgiving in a sports bar. We went back for breakfast the following day and ordered a shareable breakfast board that was noted to come with biscuits, ham, salami, and pimento cheese, which sounded delicious. However, rather than biscuits, the board came with tiny rolls that were too small to serve as a vessel for any of the items in the board (and definitely not biscuits). Nothing about Croft worthy of its stunning location within the Cloudland resort.

Very elegant restaurant with an amazing view. Restaurant offers inside and outside dining. Burger was amazing and cooked to perfection and paired with croft signature sauce. I wish they put more fries inside the cup. Groper bite was good. It just melted in my mouth. Appetizer was pricey and only came with 5 pieces of groper. Service was great. Food came out on time.

    Bucatini pasta + chicken!

The pasta was really good, but the chicken was way too salty for me. 10/10 dirty martini with blue cheese olives

Horrible experience with their burger and fries. We stayed at the hotel and ordered it for room service and the burger was so greasy and saturated.

Buttermilk Pie topped with toasted almonds

Nothing short of Amazing!!! Especially the chocolate brownie, topped with real , mini honeycomb bites And the Buttermilk Pie topped with toasted almonds!

Left hand milk stout! Highlight of the meal!

We ate at Croft for breakfast and for dinner. For breakfast, I had the eggs benedict. It tastes like somebody went to put salt on it, and the top fell off. Replaced it with the mountain breakfast. The worst scrambled eggs I've ever had. How do you mess up scrambled eggs? Chewy bacon, not crispy. And the sausage was Jimmy Dean's quality. Now, even worse, the dinner. My wife had the steak au poivre. About $50. Supposed to be cooked medium. It was well done, and cold. I'm talking take a slice and put your tongue in the center of the meat, it's cold. I had the croft Burger. I asked for it medium well, and it came out well done. It was dry and, once again, cold! So our server took both meals back and my wife ordered the croft burger this time. This time the burgers were hot, however, well done and again, dry! The good? The seasoned fries are excellent! They do have left hand milk stout on tap. One of my favorites. Our server, Logan, was awesome! This is a beautiful, high end resort, with subpar food.

Smokey Mac and cheese and Lump Crab Hushpuppies
    Nicole H.

Wow. What a beautiful experience at the Croft! Not only was the view stunning, but the food, service and drinks were delectable! For starters, we had the lump crab hushpuppies and smokey mac and cheese. Personally, I am not a fan crab--it's typically too strong and overwhelming in the seafood department, but these hush puppies were PHENOMENAL! The lump crab was baked into them (not just simply placed on top) in the most perfect ratio to the rest of the batter, not oily or too dense, and the remoulade topped it off perfectly. The Smokey Mac and cheese was cheese overload in the best way possible. The bleu cheese breadcrumb crumble and Smokey bacon were delicious and the perfect additions to the creamy sauce. The Grains Salad was fresh and crisp, and the soft boiled beet pickled egg was cooked to perfection. As for the braised beef short ribs...they were fall-off-the-bone and simply incredible. The demi glace was rich and flavorful, and the candied vegetables superb. Cheesy grits balanced out the dish and made for a hearty meal! For dessert, we got the Campfire Bread Pudding. The bread pudding itself was really yummy, with a nice crust and fluffy inside, however, it could have been much hotter (came out a bit cold/luke warm). Overall, it was good, but had a bit too much toffee syrup for my liking--a nice drizzle would have done the job just right. I likely would not order again. Not pictured is the Just Dance drink. Balanced just perfectly for a great taste similar to a margarita! The service itself was a bit slow, but I am sure they are working out the kinks to a new opening. Our waitress and other staff were great at being attentive, answering our questions and providing some wonderful recommendations. With the hotel being so new and us being one of just a few tables, the ambiance was very quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful view of the mountains and soon-to-be pool. I can foresee though when it gets more crowded that the ambiance will be much louder and likely echo-y. Overall, incredibly impressed with the meal and excited to be back for breakfast in the morning!

I made reservations about a week in advance (highly recommend), and even arriving a few minutes early at 5:00 pm, the place was already buzzing. The hostess greeted us immediately and had us seated right away. Our server was on it from the start: waters filled, drink orders taken quickly, and excellent guidance on appetizers. We went with the tomato pie, which sounds simple... but don't be fooled. The flavors are anything but basic. This is not an appetizer you politely share and move on from. It's plenty for four people, though you may find yourself quietly plotting how to secure the last bite. For our mains, we shared the warm beet salad and the beef picanha. The salad had such a great flavor pairing that even my husband, who is not a beet fan, loved it (a true culinary miracle). The picanha was incredibly flavorful and may very well be the best thing on the menu... except for the mashed potatoes. Honestly, I would go back just to order my own bowl of those mashed potatoes and call it dinner. Amazing service, outstanding food, and a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back very soon.

It was also a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. I love that they work with local organizations for fresh vegetables and meat! Our waiter was very nice and fairly attentive. But the food... For the good - the crab cake was delicious. It was like all crab meat with no filler and was very tasty. The pimento cheese was also SO yummy. You could tell it was made fresh and had a great flavor. The pita it came with was fine, a little over-grilled. I was not crazy about the fried okra. I wish the pieces weren't just cut in half, because to me they had that slimy okra texture inside. My gf said they weren't THAT bad, but I really had to push myself to eat them. The rosemary fries have a great flavor and were crispy (I prefer thicker fries but my gf enjoyed these). I LOVE mac and cheese and was super excited to try theirs. It was very creamy and had a good flavor but there was way too much cheese for the amount of noodles. Like the ratio was pretty off. Now for THE issue. My gf ordered the Filet Mignon, medium. It came raw and without the blue cheese compound butter. By the time the waiter came to check on us, I was half done eating. He took the steak to be put back on the grill and brought it back with a bowl of crumbled blue cheese. It was still raw inside. He brought us extra fries, but by the time it came back I was done eating. She asked for it to go and it was STILL RAW. She had cut it, so it was super obvious if you looked. The manager came and talked to us and they took it off the bill, but for a $40 filet mignon it should not take 3 tries to cook it right and it still not really be right. She said there are cold spots on the grill and they're training a new line cook, but it was not a good look... I'd maybe give more of a pass if they were packed, but there was no one eating inside and maybe two other tables of folks outside.

They were okay, but for 5 bucks...what do you expect?‍. I would say the accompanying butter was supposed to be honey butter, but it seemed like regular butter to me! The server was polite, but I was scratching my head because she started with---"Let me go see what's not available anymore." Shouldn't she have done that before speaking to us?? The atmosphere is relaxed, but there isn't much to the decor. It was just casual.... there was brown butcher paper on top of white table cloths...kind of tacky really. It was busy, however, which added to the noise. Hubby and I both ordered the 1885 burger. Now, we are talkin'! The burger was delicious! . It was juicy and tasty. Just an all around fantastic burger. This alone is what will bring me and hubby back. The loaded baked potato was standard, but good too. It sounds like this experience wasn't great, but like I said, the burger alone is enough to go back to enjoy.

The drink I ordered was out, but the waitress gave another option, but unfortunately that was out as well. Ended up having an old favorite, Guinness. For our meals we ordered the smoked brisket French dip and the wagyu burger. Upon ordered the burger our waitress informed us there was a shortage of patties and if we still wanted the burger we would get one patty instead of two, but at a lower cost. Both dishes were amazing and we couldn't finish them as both the fries and the entrees were larger in comparison to other places we have eaten. Overall this was a great experience with great food. The only thing we had difficulty with is having to use the phone flashlight to read the menu as the lighting was really dim. Will definitely return if we take another trip here.

We were hungry after 4 hours of hiking and they were very welcoming when we called to inquire about dine in services. We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately greeted and seated. We wanted a special drink to share so we asked for their bar drink menu. They certainly had lots of choices of mixed drinks... some I had not even heard of. We were chatting with our server and all of a sudden there were two more servers commenting on drinks as we asked what was in them, etc. I love restaurants where servers are this friendly. One recommended a couple of the drinks and having never tried one of them we chose the not so nicely named Leg Spreader. It was pretty good and probably sneaks up on you because we could not taste hardly any alcohol. It was pretty good... if you love honeydew melons you will love it; if not try something else. Overall, it was good but not sure if we would order it again. Sometimes you have to stick with the classics. Although they had some healthy choices on their menu (and that is my typical choice), I decided to indulge and ordered a philly cheesesteak which I have not had in many, many years with a side salad. My husband ordered one of their specialty burgers with some french fries. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and wow, did my cheesesteak look good... no photos because I was so hungry I just dove in and completely forgot. It was served open faced. I polished that baby off in no time. It was so good. Full of onions, peppers, even banana peppers and just the right amount of cheese so that it complimented the other items and didn't overbear them. If the roll had been grilled just a tad bit longer so that it stayed a bit more firmer, it would have been utter perfection. My husband enjoyed his burger and fixings... he ended up not eating his roll. He also was happy with his french fries. I did not hear any complaints from him and I was probably too involved in my cheesesteak experience anyways but I have to assume he liked his late lunch, also. Overall, the servers were great. The drink was so good after 4 hours of hiking and we were very happy they were open for dine in. I forgot to even mention that my side salad was pleasantly a decent size and I have to assume that if the side salad was that good that their full size ones are probably excellent.
