We came here on a Friday for breakfast and were really happy with the vibes, service and our meal. The diner is spacious and suitable for silo dining, couples and family gatherings. They have a great variety of options on their menu for breakfast, brunch and lunch/dinner. There's a good variety of jam and honey available at each table. We ordered "Meat Lovers Omelette" and "French Toast" served with 2 eggs, fries and sausage. Our food was fresh and tasty. We also ordered a coffee pot. The staff are friendly and welcoming. A bunch of us stopped by Skyway Diner in Burlington for lunch. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with exactly what you'd hope for from a good old-school diner- cozy outdated cushion booths, friendly service, and the smell of bacon and fresh coffee in the air. I decided with the Reuben sandwich since it's one of their recommended picks, and it totally lived up to it. The sandwich was packed with smoked meat, sauerkraut, and just the right amount of Thousand Island dressing, all grilled up on perfectly toasted rye. It came with coleslaw and fries, but I swapped mine for home fries because, honestly, when you're in a diner, you go with home fries. And they didn't disappoint... crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and nicely seasoned. Even with a bunch of us, service was super quick and everything came out hot and fresh. The portions were solid, the prices were fair, and the whole experience just felt easy and satisfying. Definitely one of those places you leave full and happy. Are here in late September last year with my bf and his parents. It was my first time there. The meal sized salads were very good and i recommend that if you like salad. The chicken fingers & fries for adults or the liver & onions meal all look very good also. It is also a licensed restaurant so you can get something alcoholic with your meal. Upon entering the setting is dim lit with old dated furniture. I ordered the early bird breakfast in which I got 2 eggs (cooked to your want), 3 sausage links, homemade fries, beans and a slice of orange. The eggs were good, seasoned properly but not fluffy enough for me. The sausage was kinda weird... I wonder what brand the use. The inner filling is mushy. The potatoes was pretty good. But if crisp at the edges and not mushy. The beans were good. The coffee in the other hand was pretty watered down. Need two cups to equal half a good dose of caffeine for me. I make the commute to Niagara often and struggle to find a place for lunch or brunch just off the QEW. No more. Its the Skyway for me and my wife and family. Family restaurant that first of all puts a carafe of coffee on your table when you arrive. Winner! Rarely done in Canada. Nice job. The staff are friendly but not eager, but that's ok, you expect good not great service in many diners. The bacon and eggs were perfect. Big think crispy bacon and just right scrambled eggs. Toast was smothered in butter and they had marmalade as an option on the plate. Who serves marmalade any more? Well, these guys. Why? Lots of seniors. As my departed aunty used to say, look for seniors and you'll find good food, lots of it and great prices. Place apparently is redone. Parking in front and in McDonalds parking lot next door. There are two dishes I judge a dinner breakfast for, either a great Monte Cristo or a great Corned Beef Hash. Since a Monte Cristo was not on the menu I ordered the Hash and hands down it is the best I've ever had. No doubt about it being made Fresh and to order for me. The poached eggs were perfect and the coffee could not be beat, especially since they brought the carafe and plenty of cream and sugar. Forget Starbucks, diners have the best coffee. Bright atmosphere, kind and attentive staff, and oddly, at 55 I may have been one of the youngest patrons. Also of note, there was a group of "elderly" ladies eating at the table near me, and as they were preparing to leave one of them plopped herself on the opposite seat to me in my booth. She was waiting for her lunch club ladies to get ready to leave. I jokingly said that if she stayed much longer she would have to pay for my lunch. Pleasant conversation ensued and I discovered that she and the ladies have know each other for 48 years and they still meet once a month. Also that she is going to the doctor later today because she has an iron deficiency and as such are liver and onions for lunch. I don't think I have ever seen Pancakes so small at a diner. Sausages were tasty but unfortunately cold. We both had the same dish and wished one of us had tried something else. It's never a good sign when you walk into a restaurant and it's nearly empty sporting a visible clientele with a median age of 72 years old. I went here with my brother and sister for dinner, hoping for some simple diner food and a relaxing evening. We ended up with a barely edible meal and uncomfortably tepid atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly enough, but seemed to disappear often. Of course, it was hard to blame her; as it must be depressing to play nurse maid to a total of seven other customers who preferred the softer items on the menu. What was odd was the amount of staff for what seemed like the regular crowd.There was another waitress and since there's a window to the kitchen, we could see three members of the kitchen staff milling about back there. I ordered the fish and chips, as I was in the mood to hit the positively reviewed Sea Shanty, but my sister's shellfish allergy prevented such fishy dreams. My brother ordered the chicken parm and a mushroom melt burger was in store for my sister. Before the main event, however, we had starters. Though I'm a proponent for salad last, like any civilized human being, my brother and sister both ordered the Cesar salad. What was presented was a platter of bread and dressing garnished with romaine lettuce. After taking a bite of one of their salads, I needed to gulp down my drink to wash down the dressing. I opted for the soup of the day, which was supposed to be minestrone. What I got instead was vegetable stew. I debated whether I should eat it with a spoon or fork. I was hungry, so I ignored its obvious lack of faithfulness to the classic recipe and dug in. I even kept going after finding big mushrooms in the soup. Seriously though, someone should tell the cook what goes in minestrone. After our starters, came the entrees. Oh boy! The best way to sum this up is with bullets. Fish and chips - over battered - poor fish cuts - greasy - flavorless Chicken parm - drowned in sauce - dry - overcooked pasta Mushroom melt burger - sloppy - fell apart - meat patty full of bread crumbs - too much undercooked mushroom By the end of the meal the three of us were sitting atop a mess of unfinished food. We were hoping the waitress would notice that we weren't finishing and come by with the check. After a while, the waitress came by and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu with a smile. She also brought us some to-go boxes. We politely declined dessert and made note to never return. It's a shame too, because I noticed that early reviews of this place seemed very positive. Only had breakfast here from time to time. If you're looking for big portions for a decent price you will find it here. If you're looking for something interesting or something with a higher calibre of taste you won't find it here. This is a popular place b/c I don't feel the expectations were high for actual taste especially in what used to be small town Burlington. However, since Burlington is developing and has become much larger and people generally are opening up to and seeking quality taste experiences when they eat out, "generic" places like this one will need to bring more to the table. Had lunch with hubby today but found the service very slow and not very friendly. More than that the washrooms are disgustingly dirty and I saw a waitress drop silverware on the floor and then set in a customer table! The food is good and the portions are generous, and it comes fast.The prices are reasonable...I wish they had one more person working on bussing the tables and sweeping the floors - the floors are pretty messy (we walked over slices of bacon and napkins on our way to our unwiped table). Several tables and booths sat covered with used dishes while customers waited for a table. Dec 10: much cleaner but also not as busy at 1:2. May 13. I believe this Diner has new ownership fairly recently. Very disappointed as we came in for an early dinner. My husband ordered a hot roast beef and fries and I ordered a hot hamburger meal with fries. The fries used to be frozen but very good (we liked these). The fries with the new owners were fresh cut but for some reason a lot of seasoning was put on ( I think possibly garlic) and we did not eat them. We told the waitress that we did not like the fries and she seemed incredulous that we did not like the fresh cut fries. Also the gravy was different and not in a good way. Very disappointed. When this place first opened the food and service was great - that being said the last three times we visited (twice for breakfast and once for dinner) we were absolutely disappointed! The waitress serving our section sat us and never asked if we wanted coffee or tea or anything and said she would be right back. This did not happen although new customers came in and she kept bypassing our table to serve each and every one of them looking at us as she passed. We had no menus or anything still and then she came to our table and asked if we were ready to order. We told her we have been sitting here for almost 40 minutes watching you serve everyone but us -no coffee,tea or even menus. Her excuse was she was busy???? I told her clearly she served several tables that came after us! So that visit we left. About a month later friends asked me for breakfast and to join them there and thinking of my previous visit decided to try it again. This time service was better as we didn't get that horrendous waitress but my eggs were runny and ordered them over medium so asked for replacements and got crispy hard eggs bahhhh! The sausage made me ill following breakfast and I threw it up. as for the dinner visit - worst food, portion size and tasteless - everything way overcooked too.
