We stopped in Searcy for my mom's graduation and stumbled upon this gem of a spot afterward. The restaurant has a fun, quirky theme--Alaskan, which immediately gave me Penguin Ed's vibes. I love when a place leans into something unique. I ordered the medium chicken dumplings, Russian style. The portion was fair, and overall the dish was enjoyable. The curry base was flavorful, and the presentation was warm and inviting. That said, it's not something I'd eat every day. The dill was a bit overpowering in some bites, making it hard to pick up the actual flavor of the chicken, which also got lost a bit in the thick dumpling casing. My nana went the opposite route and got the beef and pork dumplings, Alaskan style. I enjoy the dumplings every time I order from here. I would give 5 stars, however for the second time there wasn't any cilantro. I realize ingredients can run out but I don't eat here that often and 2 times out of 3 is too frequent. I feel the cilantro is a big part of the whole experience and I had to drive to the grocery store to buy some to enjoy the dumplings as they should be. Please inform customers when ordering if one or more ingredient won't be available. I love the Alaskan style dumplings and it is definitely a nice change of pace from the usual types of take out food. read more

Really interesting eclectic mountaineer/rural/Alaska decor theme inside. Simple menu- three choices of dumplings at a half pound quantity for $9. Choose from beef, chicken, or potato. Original sauce is thin and spicy. Sweet and tangy sauce to me is like the original sauce but with a sriracha type mild sweetness with some garlic to it. Both too spicy for me. They serve coffee drinks and have some canned sodas as well. The dumplings take about ten minutes to prepare and come in a Chinese food takeout style container with half a piece of Rye bread on top. They come roaring hot and are topped with cilantro and curry powder as well (??). These unique dumplings were absolutely delicious! They were soft and so very flavorful. read more

Holy cow. We happened to be on Searcy for an event in which our daughter was competing. Slader's sounded interesting, so we stopped for lunch. Guys... The food was incredible. My husband and I randomly joke about driving three hours just to eat there again. The girl behind the counter was super friendly, patient with our daughter and had our food ready quickly. What a delightful surprise to find on our way back to Texas! The divey atmosphere was great, the food fantastic, and they sell ice cream from a local creamery in Little Rock. There is also outside dog-friendly dining out back and a "Before I Die" blackboard with chalk. I had the chicken dumplings Alaska style (who knew?) and they were phenomenal. My wife had the potato dumplings, which were also delicious. For dessert we got a small cup of Honey Lavender ice cream and a pint of Churro Cheesecake from Loblolly Creamery. So many cultures have some version of dumplings - momos, pirogies, pel'menis, potstickers - all are delicious but some more standout than others. Every time they are a labor of love and deliver a delicious packet of goodness. Slader's hit the mark in every way! The second I saw "Alaska" and "dumpling" in a restaurant name...accompanied by more than 4-stars I was sold! Thankfully, the person working at the time allowed me to place an order minutes before closing as we rushed across town to pick-up our carryout order on a trip from Dallas to Mark Twain National Forrest in Missouri! We took our order to a park just minutes away where I enjoyed the 65-degree weather, beautiful plantings and foliage, birdsongs... And... Velvety smooth cheese and potato pirogies coated in a thin, tangy sriracha sauce, sour cream, and chopped cilantro garnish! The chicken pel'meni were delicious too but those potato pirogies - soooo good it made me thankful that we got waylaid by my partner's work call in Searcy just in time for late lunch! I also enjoyed the quick stopover for carryout pickup in the small brick-and-mortar restaurant which led me down memory lane to a time passed of working and traveling in Alaska! What an awesome treasure Searcy has in this place!! We almost stopped again on our return to Dallas - it was that good!! If in the area, go out of your way to stop here! One of my favorite Searcy restaurants, something I would be happy to eat in any city. I was so surprised to find this type of food in a small town like this and I want it in my city! I liked everything about this place. The atmosphere was chill and laid back. I would rank the deliciousness of the dumplings up there with any dumplings I have ever had. We were staying a night in Searcy and stopped by Slader's for a take out order. The person at the counter was super nice (and wearing a mask). They have chicken or beef pelmini and potato / cheese pirogies. My wife and I split an order of chicken pelmini and and order of the pirogies. The dumplings are boiled and served with a butter sauce, some curry powder (not overpowering), and a little cilantro. Both were served with a 1/2 slice of very good rye bread. They offer a couple of different sauce options and sour cream to go with the dumplings. The flavor and texture of both kinds of dumplings were really excellent. They also have an extensive coffee selection and macrons, but we didn't sample them on this visit...maybe next time! If you're in Searcy, give Slader's a try! We're happy we did. read more

Cute place but not somewhere we'd go more than once. It could easily be a lot better. Food was excellent, but lackluster service soured the experience. We popped by at 2pm on a Sunday and were the only customers. Ordered a coffee drink with almond milk and was informed they only had whole milk - nothing non-dairy. It seemed really odd for a coffee house in 2022 to not have milk options. Ordered macarons - they had none. I ordered three orders of dumplings - one beef, one chicken, one potato. I explained that my child would only want butter sauce, but my husband and I liked the different toppings. The employee would not do a mix of the different dumplings with butter sauce. We elected to get the potato dumplings with butter sauce, the chicken dumplings Alaskan style (topped with butter, cilantro, curry powder), and beef dumplings Russian style (topped with butter, cilantro, dill). It is absolutely beyond me why we could not have mixed them, since the toppings were added after cooking. If I had it to do over again, I would have asked for the toppings all on the side so we could mix them ourselves. The orders of dumplings were $9.75 each and came with a canned drink. We did enjoy waiting on the outside porch with our dog while our food was prepared. It was a pleasant space to hang out. Our food arrived and the young woman informed us that the sriracha and sour cream were inside if we wanted them and that was the last we saw of her. The potato dumplings were good, but would have benefited from the zing of the toppings. The chicken were good, but drowned in so much curry powder that the chicken was not discernible. The beef were the best of the bunch - tender, flavorful, and juicy. They all had perfect texture. Each bowl was served with half a slice of very nice marble rye that was perfect for sopping up the remaining sauces. We brought our soda cans and dirty dishes back inside when were done and she was nowhere to be seen. That's when we decided to not bother trying the ice cream. We left a more than $6 tip on three bowls of dumplings and bused our own table. I was at least expecting a "thank you" or "have a nice day." A little customer service could have gone a long way toward improving this experience. read more
