Worst moving services ever. Sent too small of a truck because they had some kind of issue - then made me pay for the time it took them to get the right truck!. The movers smoked more than they worked. The company was totally remiss in any responsibility for any issue. Slater moved our four-bedroom, overstuffed household from California to Utah in March 2021. Our excellent driver, Larry, works directly for Slater; the crews on either end in any interstate move are temporary workers supervised by the driver. Due to emergency surgery and a weeklong hospital stay just before our move, we hadn't completed our packing as expected, but Larry understood the situation and stepped up with his loading crew to help us finish the packing (which I recognized in a well-deserved gratuity). I wasn't yet recovered enough to drive one of our two cars to Utah myself, so we planned to leave it at Ontario airport and have me fly back to get it in a week. Larry offered to make room on the truck for my car, and he didn't charge us for the weight of the car. That kind of service is above and beyond the call. I use Yelp a lot, and I see Slater has received some very dissatisfied reviews on this site. All I can say is that no major interstate move (or any other complex endeavor in life) is perfect, but Slater took care of us and did a great job for us. read more

This is one of the worst moving companies (right behind Atlas Van Lines), together they managed to destroy so much of my stuff in the move from St. George, UT to Peoria, AZ! Even precious irreplaceable items that had belonged to my Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. There was more than $2000 worth of damage, plus a couple of items missing, and all I got was $432! Slater overcharged me from what the quote said and what they charged! Will NEVER use or refer this company to anyone again! Find a better company if you have to hire movers! read more

Terrible language used. My first request was there was to be no smoking, Employees reeked of cigarette smoke. I asked the owner (he said he was the owner) to come evaluate the challenges we were having and after arriving and realizing they had made some errors he blamed the customer then called my wife a name and unloaded everything onto the driveway. Worst company and worst service I've seen in all my years. I would use anyone but these guys and I mean the kids next door would do a better job. On the phone they sale you on "military type employees and etc" I grew up USAF and military style was not what showed up and not the language you want your children hearing. THIEVES, THEY STOLE OVER $5000 OF MY PROPERTY Let me begin this review with the knowledge that I am an easy review. I very rarely take the time to review anyone and when I do its usually because I've been blown away by a company's excellence via their product, food, service or an individual. To receive a poor review from me a company must go out of their way to earn my negative feedback. With that as the back ground may I please tell you that in my many years of existence, traveling to nearly every corner of our planet I have NEVER had an experience with any company that has descended below the service of this painfully terrible, incompetent and dishonest company. I hired Slater Transfer and Storage to move my recently sold vacation home in St. George, Utah. I met with a nice salesman who came to my home and gave me his bid. He was pleasant and accommodating. Although the price seemed a little high, we pressed forward. That is where anything good ends. On moving day, I received a call from one of the movers that a leg on a VERY EXPENSIVE kitchen table had broken. The mover explained to me that it was not them that had broken the table leg but it was the movers who had initially transported the table to my vacation home many years before. Little did they know that the table was assembled by the furniture company and had NEVER been moved or disassembled from that spot from that day. Like I said, I am a patient man and knew that my father in law who owns a nice workshop attached to his home could fix it. I figured, hey these are young kids with families no need to cause a ruckus over this, I am a wealthy man and it's no big deal in the grand scheme of things. Upon arrival, the next day in Salt Lake is where things took an incredible nose dive into neglect, dishonesty and crime. We had scheduled drop offs for our goods at two locations. The first drop off seemed to go off without a hitch, the second drop off is where things got BAD. First there were two young men doing the move. We offered them bottled waters and help. We gave them a few extra Blueray players and other electronic goods that we knew we would not use. We felt we were treating them well. I even gave them $50.00 for lunch. These guys were SLOW and CARELESS. They would carelessly throw custom sectional couches upon their backs and you could audibly hear the hard wood crack under their careless hands. I told them to be careful that the couches were very expensive ($4000-$5000) each, they ignored me and kept doing it. They very unceremoniously moved furniture in without regard and damaged my hard wood banister by their carelessness. Still with all this I figured, "well they are young and still no big deal." At the end of the move we noticed in the truck that there was still a very expensive, nearly brand new California king mattress and box springs, an ottoman and various other bedding and decorative pillows that were supposed to go to the first location. We advised the movers that they had made a slight mistake and needed to go back to the first location. The movers seemed okay with it and said they would head straight there. The first location was my brothers home. He was not home for the second delivery. The movers called me and told me they had left all the remaining items behind a fence at his home. When my brother got home none of the items were there. He searched everywhere and yet found nothing. I called the movers and they seemed a little nervous and said it was there when they left. I asked if anyone saw them when they were there and they stated the neighbors to the right watched them. Unfortunately, the neighbor to the right were not home that day. I called the sales agent I had worked with and he immediately denied it and stated they get this complaint all the time and the owners always end up finding it. I explained that unlike some items you don't misplace a California King Mattress and box springs, and ottomon and bedding. He stated he would look into it. The next day I was informed that the movers had indeed stolen my items and had sold them. The company had located them and would get them to me. I angrily explained that I would not pay for the move at which point through much negotiation I was offered a 25% discount, I told them to keep their money and I would pursue it in court and the court of public opinion. I was then told they would give me a 50% discount. Finally, 4 days later my mattress was delivered to me. It had obviously been used. Our bedding was not all returned and we were given a paper to sign saying we would not make this event public. At no time did I agree to sign this paper. At no time was I made aware that to receive my compensation for theft and damage of my goods I would be required to agree to a hush order. Finally, I would avoid this company like the plague. So sorry that I did not read Anthony N's review prior to engaging with Slater.. The salesperson, Ben, was most accommodating and eager to earn our business. Once we signed, we then dealt with Slater's office. The packers did their best but were short handed with the driver having had an accident the day prior. When the driver arrived at our new home town, he had to call and ask us to come and get him to lead him to our storage unit. Upon arriving at our home, the driver was totally unprepared. No dollies, no protective covering for the carpeting and no proper tools. The unpack was haphazard and the damage to our furniture was unacceptable. The attempt to conceal the damage with colored tape was not immediate noticed until the next day. While we have 100% insurance, I know that Atlas corporate will handle the claim appropriately. The driver was ill the day of delivery and did nothing. Never walked through the house upon arrival and never walked through the house when the move ended. He, of course, denies all of this. Slater was completely unwilling to compensate us for the lack of total unpack with the exception of a check for $166 to clean the carpets. Atlas should review the inept service provided and the very poor manner in which Slater represents the Atlas Brand. read more

We were quoted a fair price but ended up paying almost twice as much. The crew were just a bunch of guys who could lift and move objects in a hurry. We were informed that we did not need to empty dressers. In fact the estimator said if anything could fit into the dresser....no problem as they 'wrap' the dressers so the drawers and contents stay put. Without our knowledge, the crew decided to empty the drawers then just dumped the contents into boxes. No concern for value or content (i.e.... jewelry, delicate wall items, hangars, clothes, dust pans, printers, personal garments, tools, pillows, etc. All things were dumped together in boxes just to get the move done. Plus, the boxes were not labeled sufficiently(used boxes with previous contents listed and not eliminated). This is just a portion of unprofessionalism we experienced.
