EVERYTHING WENT WELL! We showed up on a rainy day had no idea about this place. We were actually going into the store next-door. There was a line outside the door even though it was raining so we asked what the big deal was and everybody was like you gotta try this place so after we got finished shopping next-door, we went there. We come to Sulphur Springs all the time and never heard about this place. Everyone was very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. The beans were like no beans I had ever had before and they were so good everything we tried, which was a lot of everything was very good. I don't think anything we had was bad or even average. We went here since it was on the top 50 list. Boy oh boy, we were not disappointed. This place is a gem right near downtown Sulphur springs. The people at the counter who greeted us were super friendly and thankful that we stopped by on our road trip from Dallas. We ordered fatty brisket, ribs, sausage, a texas twinkie, the illustrious Brussels sprouts, tater tot casserole, and potato salad. Everything was really good. The brisket was smoked nicely getting a really good render. I like it all little saltier and more spiced personally, but it was really good. The ribs seem like the house specialty. They are spare ribs and have a really good glaze on them. Fall off the bone and perfectly seasoned. The sausage was fine. All the sides were excellent. Brussels are about as good as they can get. The potato salad was creamy and rich. The tater tot casserole was interesting. Kinda pasty but still really good. I thought it needed some crunch but that could be because the way they hot hold it. The name might be Slaughter's, but the only thing getting hurt here was my self-control. We stepped up to the counter like cowboys walking into a saloon with serious purpose. 11:30 AM. A short line. No sides. Just meat. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, and their house brisket boudin. It was unspoken meat magic. That brisket? Barked to perfection with a smoke ring that looked like it had been kissed by the East Texas sun. Juicy, peppery, and sliced like a dream. The ribs were lacquered with a sweet-savory glaze that grabbed my taste buds by the collar and said, "You're staying right here." Tender with a light tug, no mushy mess. Just right. But the boudin. Good heavens. That brisket boudin hit different. Juicy, spicy, and loaded with flavor so rich I almost Venmo'd it rent money. It was a sleeper hit that nearly stole the whole show. The tray was stacked like a minimalist meat sculpture: no mac, no slaw, no distractions. Just pickles, onions, and bread for structure. My side dish queen would've raised an eyebrow at the lack of sides, but even she would've bowed down to that boudin. I might've heard her say, "Okay, that's worth skipping the corn casserole for." As a family of 4 we shared a 3 meat platter with two sides and added a Boudin and extra side. For meat we had the pulled pork, ribs and fatty side brisket. All of them were wonderful. My so loved the brisket, my daughter loved the boudin. For sides we had the beans, tater casserole and mac n cheese. All were a hit. If you are in Sulphur Springs this is a must stop. BUT, make sure you go early because once they are out they are closed. I love this because you know the food is fresh and the quality is high. Thanks so much for a great and affordable meal. One of the best barbecue places without doubt! I've always come across amazing barbecue restaurants in the small towns of Texas. Slaughter's used to be a food truck and have recently moved into this new place. The ambience is perfect with indoor and outdoor seating options. Friendly service with a smile. The owner was behind the counter which speaks to the quality of food and service. You place the order, pay and pick up your tray. They offered a free beer for each order too, which was a cool deal. Now for the food - the brisket was amazing. The grits are legit. My most favorite was the Jalapeño salad. The barbecue sauce was good but I highly recommend their bbq mustard sauce. Well today was my lucky day. The power had gone out where we live and we were not sure the official time it would be back on so we ran into SS to grab lunch. Today was the first day Slaughters was opened up in their new building!! Atmosphere Great looking building they did a great job fixing it up. Rustic/industrial look with old wood, metal signs, etc. Service: No concerns or real big comments; you pay the front and take your food with you. Food: Came in at 1245 and no joke, only meats available were pork and brisket, sides Brussels and potato salad. So brisket with the two sides is what we got lol. It was good, no complaints from me. Brisket was nice and tender, juicy and had a good flavor. Slaughter's has been in SS for quite a while and with the new larger location I can bet that most days to come will be like today. 11-3 (sold out) but if you wait until later in the afternoon you might not get what you are hoping to, so get there EARLY. Took a drive from my Dad's near Greenville out to Slaughter's in Sulphur Springs today for a spot that's been on my radar since the beginning of '22. I wasn't super hungry, so I got a 1-meat plate with brisket and charro beans and smoked crawfish cornbread for sides. Brisket was done super well IMO...smoky with a peppery bark on the meat. Had the right balance of meat/fat mixture, too. Charro beans were legit, but be warned if you don't like spicy. The smoked crawfish cornbread was also super tasty, though I would have liked a few more chunks of meat it my cut. Our family was camping at Cooper State Park over Easter weekend and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch and escape the incoming storm. Thankfully Slaughter's was open on Easter Sunday and still had food left. (They usually close on Sundays when they run out of food.) Three of us had the brisket sandwich with a side of loaded potato salad. They were both fantastic! The beef was juicy and flavorful, one of the best briskets I've had in a very long time. They do not skimp on portions. Our fourth person had the turkey sandwich and said that it was good as well. We enjoyed their mash up of a loaded potato in potato salad form. It was yummy!
