I left a message (over the holidays) about scheduling a cleaning again. She called and left 2 messages over the holidays to get me scheduled an apt and once we finally connected she got me in the following week :-) i received emails and texts reminding me about my Apt which I appreciated too. Dr. Shasho and I had a sit down regarding the review. It was professional and respectful. Communication was really the main issue. When it comes to making such a huge aesthetic/dental investment - necessary communication really should have been there from the start. I.e. - pricing of the invisalign (the three brackets), the possibility of being responsible for payment if you are no longer with your insurance providing employer, the cost of the retainer. These things should have been brought up and made clear off the bat, and if anything is to be signed as far as documents/contracts go - the adding of information in pen is totally unacceptable. With my insurance covering a large portion and the discounted rate, the price was just OK. There are definitely some better deals out there. Nonetheless, Dr. Shasho is willing to work with you and suggest creditors that are interest free. She is conveniently located and office visits are personable. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Do NOT buy a deal from Dr. Shasho! Please, please, please let these reviews be a warning to you. BAIT AND SWITCH AT ITS FINEST. I bought a Groupon for an exam, x-rays, and cleaning. I have had a lovely (but not cheap) dentist up north for many years, but I thought I'd try a closer, cheaper alternative. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Or in this case, YOU DON'T EVEN GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I had called many times to make an appointment but the phone was often not answered. When I did get through, I talked to a woman with a thick accent over the phone several times, always the same woman. She said "Dr. Shasho" was booked out months in advance, so I dutifully (and excitedly! I love clean teeth!) waited for my appointment. After a loving brush and floss, I headed over to Dr. Shasho's office. The environment left a lot to be desired, but that was the least of my concerns. The woman at the front desk, the "secretary", WAS Dr. Shasho! She said she was short-staffed that day but I began to have my doubts. She sat me down. There was a violent movie being played at the TV above my head. Not very relaxing. She took a couple x-rays, and then had me open up, She aggressively poked around, and then started making concerned noises. She brought out a mirror to show me bleeding gums and my pocket depth. No doubt I was bleeding, as the treatment felt much rougher than any hygienist I'd ever had. "I've got some bad news for you, Chelsea." she started balefully. "You have severe gum disease. Your pockets are deep and bone loss has set in." I paled. Granted, I was a little overdue for a dental visit, but I'd always been praised by dentist and hygienists for my excellent oral hygiene and overall teeth condition. "What you really need is a deep cleaning. This will help with the gum disease that you have. It must be done so the infection does not spread." She brought out diagrams to explain the dire situation that was my mouth. "Unfortunately," she continued, "your Groupon only covers the regular cleaning." My stomach was churning. How could this be? I already felt I was being swindled, but decided to play along. "How much is the deep cleaning?" I asked. Then came the kicker. "$1200." she said. "But for you, I can give a discount of $600." I felt like I was at an open-air market bargaining for a Persian rug. Appalled, but surging with a desire to get my money's worth and GET OUT, I said that I couldn't afford that at this time (true) but would like to go ahead with the regular cleaning. "Oh," she said. "We can't do a regular cleaning. The gum disease is so severe that it may spread and I cannot be held responsible for anything that may happen during a regular cleaning. We must schedule the deep cleaning." I feel so, so bad for anyone who falls for this. And if I had ANY doubts whatsoever about the fraudulent and underhanded nature of this experience, as she was presenting her final sell on the $1200 deep cleaning, her next patients came in. Now, HOW, pray tell, did Dr. Shasho have the prescient ability to know her morning client would have SEVERE GUM DISEASE and not be receiving the scheduled cleaning? Fishy, fishy, fishy. Other high points: Asking me multiple times how many fillings I have, and then while in my mouth, stating the wrong number of fillings. When asked about some tooth sensitivity , she said, "I don't know, but I can take it out and see what's going on in there." I think I'll pass. Pointing at at unidentified spot on my gums on my x-ray and saying "I don't know what that is, but I can try to dig it out." No, thank you, that will be quite alright. I called my dentist when I got into my car and told them what happened. I was scared some of the things Dr. Shasho said might be true. I'm writing this review now because I just got home from my appointment at my usual dental office. The hygienist reported I had "excellent" gums with minor tartar and no signs of gingivitis. The dentist did his exam thoroughly and noted "these are the type of teeth we're trying to achieve". I nearly kissed them on the mouth. In fact, I think I'd better go write them a positive review now that I appreciate the value of honest, quality dental work. Please spread the word that EDENT is nothing but an ESCAM. PS. Look at the 5 star reviews. They're obviously written by personal friends or "hired help". Shame on you. read more

I have been going to Dr. Shasho for over two years now, and every visit has been pleasant. Dr. Shasho is extremely friendly and makes things very easy for you. If you have insurance, Dr. Shasho makes sure you know about all the benefits covered, but also makes sure you understand what isn't. Unlike other dentists, there are no surprises. She is very straight forward, and definitely does not try to sell you things you don't need. I have had several cleanings and also a couple fillings with her, and I always left with a good experience. Dr.Shasho does a very thorough job, but I don't think I ever spent more than 45 minutes in her seat. Purchased a Groupon for teeth whitening. She explained everything and for the most part both the dentist and assistant were pretty friendly. It's a small office and I liked that, it felt more personal. Overall great experience. The ONLY reason for not giving a better rating was the amount of time it took to start the appointment. When i came in I had to fill out a ton of paperwork and didn't actually get seated for about 30-40 minutes. When calling other dentists in the area, I was told I'd be waiting until August for an appointment. When I called Dr. Shasho's office on a Friday, I was asked, "How does Tuesday sound?" Dr. Shasho and her assistant Katie are both incredibly friendly, talented and professional. They both did great work (cleaning, filling, whitening) and made me feel comfortable in a situation that would otherwise be painful and irritating. If you've typically had a dentist clean your teeth, you will likely consider this office a a more pleasant experience as they are so friendly and personable. If you've always had a hygienist clean your teeth, I'd recommend finding someone with a hygienest. A very important lesson learned by this midwestern born girl. My first experience visiting a dentist in San Diego was a visit with Dr. Shasho. The office is small but clean and the staff is very friendly. They apologized for the short wait while they finished working with the previous patient. Since I hadn't seen a dentist in about a year, I did a full exam and cleaning that included x-rays, cleaning and even a fluoride treatment (that I opted to add as an additional service). Following my x-rays and a quick inspection of my teeth, she let me know that I had some of the cleanest teeth that she'd seen - no plaque and no calculus buildup anywhere in my mouth. Dr. Shasho then proceeded to clean my teeth. I've never had my teeth cleaned by a dentist before, so I thought it was a bit strange, but apparently, this is common in California as it's more cost effective for dental offices. Dental hygienists go to school for 2 years, to learn how to clean teeth. Dentist learn how to clean teeth, but do not spend 2 years learning how to do so gently and in the most comfortable way for the patient. I've never had my gums bleed and never experienced pain during a cleaning before. The pain during this cleaning literally reminded me of the pain after going to the orthodontist and having my braces tightened. My entire mouth throbbed afterwards and I considered taking a pain killer. Even hours later, my gums were still sensitive when I brushed my teeth before bed. While I'm sure that Dr. Shasho is a great dentist, I don't think I'll go back there or really to any other dentist unless I know a hygienist will be cleaning my teeth. Having my teeth cleaned by a dentist was an experience that I hope to never repeat. read more

I purchased a Groupon for teeth whitening at EDENT and also scheduled a cleaning for the same appointment. Overall, my impression of Dr. Shasho and the office was good. Dr. Shasho and her assistants were personable, helpful and attentive to detail. They were quick to explain what they were doing and answer any questions. The office is located in Pacific Beach and is easy to get to. Though I didn't see a parking lot specifically for patients, there was plenty of street parking available. The office itself is smaller and nicely decorated. I also appreciated the fact that they had a flat-screen TV in front of the patient chair, with headphones. This was particularly nice during the whitening treatment because you need to let the bleach sit for a while. I did experience some tooth sensitivity during the treatment and the dentist and her assistants were great about checking in and making sure I was comfortable. I was happy with the results of the treatment. My teeth were clean and though I didn't notice a big difference in "whiteness" right away, the assistant told me that the bleach would continue to work for 48 hours, and after 48 hours I did see a noticeable difference. My only complaint is that the description for the Groupon I purchased led me to believe that a teeth cleaning was included with the whitening, when in fact it was not. I am not sure if this is EDENT's fault or Groupon's. The office did give me a cleaning at a reduced rate of $55 because I had purchased the Groupon, which was good because unfortunately they do not accept my dental insurance. read more

Dr. Sasho was incredibly informative and gave me nothing but great information. The staff really treats you as a person, and not just some patient. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Shasho. She makes sure that you get a dental education and feel comfortable. I've had x-rays done a few times, and because I have a tori, they have always been somewhat painful/difficult. With her digital x-rays, they were the most pleasant x-ray experience I've ever had. She is very communicative about insurance, payments, and her procedures so you know what to expect. She is also very personable and even though another patient came in, she took the time to ask if I had any other questions and completed with me so I did not feel rushed getting out of her chair. She has nice big TVs to stare at during treatment which is a plus. Parking may be difficult because it's on Grand, but there is parking in the back alley if you can't get parking in the front. I'm looking forward to my next dental appointment with her - which I can't say I've ever felt with another dentist. read more

She was friendly, had an awesome reminder system (I was thankful for the reminders!!) and she was professional. I had to bring my son along for an appointment and she was so sweet to him - it really made me grateful that I chose someone like her to be my dentist! She did the preauthorization work ahead of time and when I got there I just had a few forms to fill out and she got started. She worked quickly and was respectful of my time and didn't offer anything that my insurance didn't cover. Dr. Shasho is an old school, back to real family dentistry, breath of fresh air. When was the last time you had your dentist actually do your cleaning? We'd become so used to dentist visits being a quick cleaning by a hygienist, then the doctor stops by for 2 minutes to look inside your mouth and tell you how many problems you have that require expensive procedures. Dr. Shasho treats our family personally, doesn't overcharge, doesn't recommend procedures we don't need, and you leave feeling like you've seen a doctor, not a used car salesman. Dr. Shasho is one of a kind! Not only is she a great dentist but she is also an impeccable business woman. When I originally found Edent on Yelp I called Dr. Shasho's office to confirm she was an "in-network" provider for my insurance. She ensured me that she was and I proceeded to schedule an appointment. When I arrived I was greeted by Dr. Shasho and her brand new admin. assistant. Dr. Shasho requested to see my insurance card to show the new hire how to confirm insurance coverage. In the process of confirming insurance, she realized that to no fault of her own, she no longer was "in-network" with Blue of California. From this point she could have very easily told me that I would have to pay for the services out-of-pocket BUT, she didn't. She told me that since she had ensured me she was "in-network" with my insurance she would perform all the dental services for free. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! No other doctor would ever do this. I obliged and had a great experience. She also made it a point to tell me that she would reapply to be a servicer of my insurance by the next time I came in for a cleaning! In regards to the dental services, Dr. Shasho actually cleaned my teeth, I have never actually had a dentist take the time to clean my teeth (it's normally done by a dental assistant). She also took the times to explain different complications that had come about with my teeth because of previous orthodontics and gave me a list of procedures she could do to reverse these problems. One other point that I would like to make is that she didn't try to shove Invisalign down my throat which seems to be a pretty common thing with dentists in San Diego. All-in-all it was the best "going to the dentist" experience I have ever had. I will most certainly be going back to Dr. Shasho and Edent for all my dental related needs and I HIGHLY recommend that you do that same! read more

I went in for two things and I made this very clear when I walked through the door: I wanted a cleaning and advice on what I needed to do about my wisdom teeth. The cleaning was fine but when it came to my wisdom teeth I was dissatisfied. I know nothing about dental work and anything of the sort. I need it dumbed down in the best possible way. She said I needed my wisdom teeth out and that was it. At the end of the consultation I had to ask do I need an oral surgeon or can it be in office (as someone told me depending on the situation your teeth are in they would do it one of those ways). She gave me no referrals of oral surgeons in the area to call. That would have been a HUGE help. I'm now having to go to a different dentist to get help with what I need to do. Also she's a smoker. She had a cigarette right before coming in to work on my teeth and all I could smell was the tobacco on her breath the whole time. Popping a breath mint would have been nice. read more

I have to chime in with Chelsea with a minor change. Unlike Chelsea's experience, there was a receptionist up front during my visit to see Dr. Sasho. I agree that the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. I'm used to a sterile dentist's office, and her office is far from it. I would apply the title "mom and pop" to her business rather than professional. There was no hygienist, so Dr. Sasho did the cleaning herself. The cleaning was worthy of one star, but her "bedside manner" was non-existent. To be honest, I didn't meet the nice woman others have raved about - more like Bela Legosi (Dracula). She and her assistant Katie are excellent! The facility has great equipment with digital x-rays (less radiation!) and flat screen TV's. I really appreciated that Dr. Shasho took the time to show me my x-rays and explain what work I needed done and why. They took a lot of time to make sure all of my questions were answered and felt comfortable with the services they were providing- and they were friendly and genuine about it. Keep in mind, I'm not a fan of dentists as their typically sales people trying to sell you on every product there is - or their like my last dentist a quack(Dr. Boral who doesn't advocate using toothpast). I used my Groupon for teeth whitening here and I'm very happy with the experience. I found a parking space out front, no meters or time limits. The person at the front desk, who I believe was Shira Shasho, was busy with calls and not very friendly, but the guy who treated me, Christian, was very friendly and competent. I'd tried whitening my teeth using trays and strips and hated it. I never saw measurable results. This took less than an hour and was much more comfortable than I expected. The device they put in your mouth to block the bleach from getting in felt very secure and comfy. A small amount got on my tongue but Christian got rid of it. I just lay back and listened to the tv (it's not at a good angle to watch). When I was done, the badly yellowed teeth on the sides of my mouth were much, much whiter. The biggest downside is that I didn't know before I came my food and drink would be so restricted. It would have been good if they told me to eat a meal beforehand because for the next 2 days all you can have is white food and clear beverages. The whitening was well worth the cost of the Groupon, although I wouldn't say the same for full price, supposedly over $400!? read more

At my appointment I was greeted by very pleasant and professional scheduler and associate who had all paper work ready to fill out. My wait was less than ten minutes. Her dental assistant took me back to a very clean and organized room where I was made comfortable. Dr. Shasho came in about two minutes later. They stated the cost and procedure, and she described the procedure step by step. Very friendly staff, excellent knowledge and equipment.
