I have been coming here for years for cleanings as Dr. Q is great. He's very friendly, personable and always takes the time to go over dental care and any issues you might have. He also never pushes you to do anything extra, and is always upfront about costs and what insurance will cover. I always enjoy chatting with him, and I really appreciate that he uses numbing gel on my gums before cleaning (when I tell him I have sensitive gums). The office is generally clean, and it's nice that you can watch Netflix on the TV overhead. However, I feel that his front desk staff/hygienists have really gone downhill. Over the past couple of years, they have been pretty unfriendly whenever I come in. They also get annoyed/frustrated at me when I have trouble doing X-rays; they just kept shoving the apparatus forcefully into my mouth over and over again even when I keep gagging (and they actually cut the corner of my mouth). Finally when Dr. Q came over he showed them how to do it properly without causing a gag reflex. The last straw was when I had bad pain in my upper gums and I tried to make a followup appointment with his front desk staff; the lady I spoke to actually said I just needed to "brush better" and was very reluctant to make an appt for me initially. Another one of his staff said I probably "chew too much on that side of my mouth". I felt pretty insulted being dismissed by his staff like that, when the actual problem was I had an impacted wisdom tooth that needed to be removed asap (as Dr. Q informed me). I personally would not go back to Dr Q in Mira Mesa's Rite Aid plaza. Both times I went in 2022, I didn't have a good experience. They scheduled me for a new patient cleaning, which I had to wait 4 months to get. When I came on the day of my 1st appointment, they didn't have me on their schedule, although I showed them my confirmation text I received from when I scheduled. They couldn't fit me in at that time, but said I could come in about 3hrs later and be seen. So I came back at the later time/same day, but I had to wait in the waiting room for 1.5hrs before I was seen! Why not just schedule me when I could actually be seen... My next appointment was for my 6mo cleaning. My dental insurance should have covered it, but for some reason I still have to pay $100... The office was clean. The actual experience with Dr. Q was good. I wasn't offered a chance to watch Netflix during my stay as others mentioned, but Dr. Q was always very nice and loved to have a conversation. Solid 5 stars for Dr. Q and team. The entire team is very friendly and down-to-earth and knowledgeable. Instead of getting your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist and seeing the dentist for only a couple minutes at other clinics, Dr. Q likes to bond with his patients and spends a good amount of time with each patient cleaning their teeth himself! I've moved around a bit and have easily experienced over a dozen different dentists and dental clinics. Most recently, I was going to a different dental office in Mira Mesa for a few years that was also highly reviewed. The dentist there was very nice and skilled but I finally grew tired of them peer pressuring/convincing me to add on "necessary" bacteria reducing services (laser and gel) at each dental cleaning which cost me $100 in total after insurance. I have better than average dental insurance and I'm supposed to get 3 free dental cleanings a year. Something always felt off about that. After visiting Dr. Q, my suspicions about the other dental office were confirmed. I walked away from Dr. Q with no OOP costs for my teeth cleaning, the way it should be, and it was a very thorough teeth cleaning. Everything is high tech and he uses all the best technology...and he is nice too. If you are cheap and don't want to spend money on quality work, you should probably go somewhere else, but if your dental hygiene is important or you need dental work and you want it done right, He's the guy for you. This review is in regard to an appointment in Sept 2023. I am currently living in San Diego for school and needed to find a local dentist since my usual dentist is back home. Did a quick yelp search to find Dr Q dental so close to my house. I decided to call and make an appointment. Karina is extremely helpful in verifying insurances and communicating with me about my appointment. They did have to move my appointment once due to a conflict in the doctor's schedule but that was fine, I understood. (I have time stamps from updating my boyfriend about the appointment the day of) My appointment was at 4:00pm, I showed up around 3:50pm. I checked in with an assistant that came from the back and was told to wait. Around 4:15pm, I called out to an assistant in the back asking how much longer it would be (there was no front desk receptionist), she asked me to patiently wait. At 4:33pm, I asked her again how long it would be & that I would like to reschedule if it'll be any longer. She immediately took me in to do my X-rays, which took about 10 minutes. She was also speaking extremely low that I had to ask her to speak up, since I couldn't understand her instructions. I asked her how long it would before my teeth are cleaned and when I get to see the doctor, to which she said would only be a few more minutes. At 5:07 pm, the doctor finally was finished with his previous patient and came to see me. He "cleaned" my teeth and explained the X-rays to me. He told me I had some cavities & would possibly need a root canal. 2 stars for Karina who was extremely helpful with communication before the appointment and for the few moments of the doctors time that I did have. He was also responsive with the email I sent after the appointment with some questions. My biggest complaint was having to wait more than 30 minutes for X-rays and an hour for my cleaning & consult. In addition, I decided to fly back home and schedule a second opinion with my usual dentist to find that the cleaning was poor! My usual dentist told me there was staining that could've easily been cleaned as well as plaque build up that should've been removed during my initial cleaning. I had to pay extra for an additional cleaning since my insurance wouldn't cover it. I should've noticed this as the "cleaning" I received at this office was much shorter in duration than my usual ones. Not sure what went wrong. Maybe it was a one off appointment, or a difficult day for the office, but at the end of the day, my experience and the service was mediocre at best. read more

I've been coming to Dr Q's dental office for almost 4 years now, and I keep going back for several reasons. The office itself is clean and inviting and the staff members are kind, helpful, and attentive from start to finish. The check-in process is generally smooth, and I haven't had to worry about whether I was expected or not for my appointment. I've waited no more than a few minutes within my appointment time before I'm seated to begin the initial prep steps (x-ray, cleaning, etc.). Communication with the staff is easy as well. I've had a few times where I had to update my insurance information or provide documentation for insurance, and the staff made it easy to do so by having you share them via text for convenience. Dr. Q's quality of care is fantastic. He's been mindful of my comfort during my procedures and is more than happy to help with any pain management regardless of the procedure I'm undergoing. He's easy to talk to and is informative when breaking down complicated steps related to my dental care. I have yet to be dismissed over any concerns I've brought up in the past and feel confident about future visits if I do have any to bring up regarding my care. Considering how anxiety-inducing dental care may be for some folks, Dr. Q does a wonderful job in bringing an air of calm and patience when treating his patients. Hi Dr. Q, Thanks for your reply. I will respond to your original reply to me as I can see that it has been edited. There are a couple of things I would like to mention. It is very sad that you bring up my sister's case and how she was "not compliant" in your initial response to my review. This is the second time bringing up her case; the first time was during our meeting. Although it has nothing to do with the concerns I brought up in my original review, I will respond to it. My sister did not attend her appointments for over 6 months because my family was working and saving money to pay off her braces. My mom lost her job and we didn't have enough money to pay for my sister's appointments until my mom was able to gain employment again. We appreciate the time you gave our family, but mentioning it here in such a disdainful manner is truly disappointing for a dental professional. First, I understand that the two gaps I mentioned are completely different and I understand that gaps will appear here and there during treatment (that is not the problem). However, the one gap on my upper teeth did not move for one year and only got bigger. If it's "easy" to close (as you mention) then why, after one year, is it still there? It closed within one month after I switched orthodontists. Secondly, I see that you are saying IPR is performed to close black triangles. However, I did not have the black triangle before treatment. I noticed it right after the second time you shaved my teeth to close the other big gap (which I learned was unnecessary after switching orthodontists). The IPR does not create black triangles, but a dentist's technique while doing IPR can and, in this case, it did. It is evident that the teeth were shaved incorrectly. This created the black triangle that could have been prevented. Furthermore, you state that "the black triangle gap was the last one that has not been IPR." I am confused with this statement as it had been IPR not once but twice already. I am even more confused because I didn't have any black triangle gaps before the IPR. How is it "the last one"? Also, I did not agree to have the IPR performed at my current orthodontist to fix the triangle gap you gave me. I have not gotten it done nor would I ever want to have it done again. My teeth are sensitive enough. It's odd that you said my mom understood you were able to finish my case and that I was not "willing to listen" to her when she was the one pushing me to end treatment with you. I always gave you the benefit of the doubt even when the treatment progress has shown me the opposite. How can you show me that you are 100% confident if you did not know when you would finish? I do remember hearing 2 years during my braces consultation. However, the statement of 2 years, 2.5 years, or 3 years is no longer valid if you can't stand by that during treatment. For the price of braces that many patients pay, we would like to be reassured with a timeframe throughout treatment at the very least. But all I got was "be patient." Lastly, my mom and I stand with our experience that you were coming off as aggressive during our meeting. There was no desire to hear my concerns and worries - no compassion at all. That's how we, as patients, felt like we were treated. I wrote this review to share MY experience and I simply did not feel heard. As expected, here is very clean and equipments are very new. All assistants are professional and of course, Dr. Q is super nice, patient and knowledgeable! Dr. Q is the best dentist I ever have. I have been a patient of Dr Q for almost 6 years now. He has done many dental treatments for me including root canals, crowns, cavity fillings, wisdom teeth extraction and Invisalign treatment. All of the results have been excellent! When he did two of my root canal treatments five years ago, he was so skilled at giving the numbing shot, I didn't feel any pain at all! Additionally, I have a very busy schedule and often times I am out of town. Dr Q is so flexible with my Invisalign treatment, allowing me to text him pictures of my Invisalign tray stages. My friend recommended Dr Q and I am so happy I decided to switch. I had a wonderful experience here. The appointment process was smooth and easy to navigate. Karina at the reception is an extremely sweet person and she's always ready to answer all sorts of questions. I went in for a teeth cleaning and dental exam. Karina had me do all the paperwork and then I was taken in for teeth polishing, Dr Q's assistant was very helpful with that, she also took some teeth X-RAYS. The cool stuff I'd that they have a TV on the ceiling so that you never get bored with the long teeth cleaning process. After the polishing and X-ray Dr Q came in and discussed my teeth issues with me, he was very patient and examined the details in a manner easy for me to understand. He did the cleaning in about 15-20 minute and was very concerned if I was uncomfortable or needed anything at any point. I am super happy with the experience here and DrQ is going to be my go to guy for all dental issues from now on. These guys are not the people who would push you to get or try certain products or services if you don't need them. Infact they give you the best options as to when to get something done if it's required and help you work with your insurance about everything too. I have been going to this dental office for a few years now, since they opened. So far I have been happy with the service. My crown fell out and I had extremely bad pain. Therefore, I needed a root canal and it was my first ever. I was nervous especially about hearing bad experiences from other people. Also, I hoped my crown was salvageable because I didn't want to pay out of pocket for a new one. Yesterday, the root canal went flawlessly. There was minimal pain from the local injections of anesthetics but it was temporary and Dr. Quy was patient to explain everything during the whole process. They made everything as comfortable as possible: eye shades to protect from the exam light, Netflix playing overhead, neck support adjustment on chair, and an inner mouth piece on one side to keep my mouth open comfortably. The procedure took about two hours because I forgot to bring my old crown in. I must have been nervous leading up to the appointment. Thankfully, they had a last minute cancellation for the next day. Again, Dr. Quy explained everything as he worked on the crown fitting and he made sure it was a perfect bite again. He was able to clean and use the same crown! It just needed old glue removal & some shaving to fit back in. My mouth is sore as expected but I am not in the pain I was in when I initially came. I experienced quality and professional work. I've been seeing Dr Q. for a few years now and I cannot rave enough about him. He is so thorough and an absolute perfectionist! Your teeth are his patient(s) and he legitimately cares about them above all else. I've had a phobia for dentists since I was a child, and Dr. Q is so wonderful and kind. He knows about my anxiety and is always checking in on me during teeth cleanings or other procedures to ask me if I'm OK and comfortable or if I need a break. He also tells me what he's about to do before he does it so I am not surprised by any noises or things like that. He doesn't try to upsell you on work you don't need, he tells you exactly what you need and doesn't try to scam you. His prices are more than fair! Honest, comfort and at peace. Dr. Quy is your "let's get down to business" kinda guy. I came here with a toothache and I just seriously want to get rid of it! I didn't care to have other dental procedures except extraction, which made me come to this dental office after I was told from the other dental office that I have to undergo Bone Graphing after extraction. First, I ain't gonna pay $1,200 out of pocket. 2nd, I don't want to have that procedure, I just want the tooth pulled and be over it. I told all of that to Dr Quy and I was taken care of asap, left his office with $110 copay. This dental office is clean. I was pretty impressed with the big tv in front of me where I can also see my chart and the camera when he took pictures of my teeth. The TV at the ceiling is amazing too!, though I'd probably use that next time. I love how Dr Quy talk to the patients genuinely while doing the procedure. I love that the office is very clean and modern, and has a children's play area. They also take covid-19 very seriously, and have pulled out all the stops to make sure the visit is safe. They have a professional-grade air filter system, screens, clean frequently, etc. to make the visit as safe as possible. Best part of the office though is really the flat screen TVs mounted on the ceilings, making the experience that much better.
