When we arrived in McGregor, we were immediately greeted by Richard and Charlene who made sure we parked in a safe location. Richard helped with our bags. As we entered the suite, our senses are bombarded with an Americana motif taken to the nth degree. Almost every square inch is decorated by images and pictures of the old jail and firehouse. The Palucci's will fill you in on the history of the jail and some interesting stories. in addition, there are old trickets and toys representing firemen and the jail theme. Charlene's father was a fireman in Chicago and she has a tribute of him displayed in the kitchen area. Just about every square inch of this room is covered with something. Even the ceiling is wallpapered. If you have sensitivity to sensory overload then this is definitely not the place for you. But, if you appreciate the time and care that went into trying to make this one-room reflect the history of the town, then you will really appreciate the decor and ambiance. Although not officially a Bed and Breakfast, the Palucci's have generously stocked the fridge with pastries and cinnamon rolls, milk, juice, jellies, etc. The pantry has coffee, teas, and snacks. Richard and Charlene have gone out of their way to make sure you can make your way through all the switches and amenities that the place has to offer. In fact, they have written directions for EVERYTHING in the room. There are directions for which light switch is for which area of the room, how to turn the key to open the door, how long to keep the A/C running. You'll either find it endearing or eccentric. Another consideration is the location to Main Street. The room itself if just feet from Main Street and the Mississippi River is only about 4 blocks. But, with the big picture window open, all passerby's can see in. Not a big deal since you can close the blinds for privacy (there's even a note on how to do that). Overall, we really enjoyed our visit at the Old Jail and Firehouse Guest Suite. We found it clean and comfortable. We really appreciated the friendliness and care from RIchard and Charlene. We would definitely stay there again!

First of all the cabins are located close to town, close to a main road yet secluded. Where do I start...the cabin itself was very nice. It was decorated to give you the cabin vibe. It was very clean and provided everything that you would need except for your food and clothing. I mean there is even spices to cook with in here! More dishes than you would need and a dishwasher (including soap!!). A very nice fire pit area with nice wooden chairs and benches (no need to bring your campchairs). There is a first aid kit just in case. Bedding and blankets provided so no need to bring yours, plenty of blankets and pillows. Now for the bad, the heating system was super loud and woke me up every time it kicked in. Our room window was right above the awning for the front entry and when we were getting ready to leave I noticed there was a badly decomposing either huge mouse or small rat right outside our window. I am not one of those people that fools themselves and thinks that most hotels don't have rodents, but when I told the guy at the front desk I didn't get an apology or anything. There shower and bath facilities were clean and modern, even the smaller building on the far end was a toilet and not a hole in the ground. they were clean and did not smell at all, I don't even think I saw any bugs in any of them. There was wood on site for purchasing and i think I saw a pop machine but I am not sure, also there was no snack shop but that was not a concern for me. I would recommend this place to anyone and I plan on going back, the sooner the better!

We sat for quite some time without waters or menus. And then later our friend told us the person who came to clean our table was the owner. And even my friend pointed out, hey someone who came in after us was serviced before us. And my 1st thought was that this place was very poorly unorganized bar & grill on a Friday night. As one business owner to another, if your establishment is that busy and if owner already helped your waitress cleared and wiped down tables. The owner knew we were already there. And YOU as the owner should have at least grab 3 glasses of water and 3 menus at the very least to help your waitress. The food was great and so was the waitress but she was in need of help and the poor thing was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. We kept telling our waitress she was doing great and not to worry about a thing. We had to reassure her every time she checked on us. We even had to tell her that the two of our meals with/Surf & Turf ($25) came with salads but they forgot it at the beginning of the meal. But yet, we still told our waitress it was not her fault, because it wasn't. It was lack of help. It was a Friday night and they had a special going on so more help was a "NO BRAINER". My friend and BF had the Surf and Turf and I had the smothered prime rib sandwich and the clam strips. The food was great but the "SERVICE", not waitress but the management needs to up their game. It was our first time here and we probably give it another chance. 1st time review for this restaurant as part of a Yelp elite squad!
