Run! This hotel is so outdated. As soon as we walked into the lobby, the smell of Lysol and bleach burned the insides of my nose. The lady checked us in and we went up to our room. As we got to the second floor the smell was even stronger. The Room. Disgusting The room smelled so bad! Like urine mixed with bleach Lysol and cigarettes. Mind you they have a sign saying you can't smoke and will charge you a $250 fee. My sister opened the windows and turned on the air conditioner to see if it'll help get rid of the smell. But it didn't so I ended up going back down stairs and asked to cancel. I booked this through a 3rd party and didn't have issues canceling and getting a refund. I'm staying here because I needed to go to the DMV and this town was the soonest appointment I could get. Rather than driving an hour and a half at the buttcrack of dawn to head to my appointment, I figured I would book a hotel for one night and go in the morning. The reviews seemed to be a mixed bag, but slightly better the more recent you got. While it's no Hilton or anything, you really shouldn't be expecting that for the price range. This place is not filthy. Sure, there are some areas that could use some loving, but that's not fair to expect the maids to do a deep clean of every inch of every room with the time crunch they face. I don't expect perfection. So long as the bedding, towels, and bathroom are clean, I'm a happy camper. I think if I had to complain or agree with some of the more negative reviews, it would be about how outdated it is. I never thought I would be the type to care or comment on that, but the shower looks like a capsule, a pod, a spaceship. I'm not sure what to call it, but it's weird. The bathroom door has a very strange latch and the door itself slides instead of swinging. You have to align the door with the slot before you can latch the lock in place. There is nowhere to set your clothing when you shower, so you will have to either exit the bathroom naked and grab your stuff from the sink outside of the bathroom, or shower with the door open so you can just step out and grab your clothes from the sink. The pillows are oddly square, the bed is squishy but not overly uncomfortable, and the shower head adjusts so you're not stuck in short people mode. Outside of that, I don't feel like I'm going to get stabbed or kidnapped. There's no insect presence outside of one fruitfly looking bug, but things could be far worse. A word of caution, the bathroom is not soundproof. Anyone you stay with will hear you fart. read more

A nice and clean hotel to rest your head for a night or two. Pet friendly with a pet fee of $15 per night. We got our double bed room for a great price. Vending machines, laundry, free breakfast and WiFi all on site. Our room came with a mini fridge, microwave and hair dryer. Over all, a small room but a nice stay for the price! read more

I was not disappointed!!! The hotel is clean from the outside to the inside! The lobby was nice looking and clean with friendly team. Paul helped me in reservation and was very patient, listen and provided a great deal! Tania ahelped me check-in and she also was friendly and informatively. At first glance, everything looked and smelled clean. However, upon further inspection, it was obvious that the bedding had NOT been changed from previous occupant: pillowcases were dirty, sheets were stained AND a pubic hair was found. Towels were also stained. A quick call to the front desk and fresh bedding and towels were delivered (which we thoroughly inspected AND sprayed with disinfectant spray) before putting on the bed. A disappointing experience re: cleanliness. Wavered between 1 star (not good) or 2 stars ( could have been better). When looking for a hotel where I could stay for one night in Hickory, I wasn't sure where I should stay. I knew I wanted to be in a hotel that had hotel rooms that you could enter from the interior as a matter of safety. When I located the Sleep Inn, I could neither pass up the price nor the modern look of the queen rooms. When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted warmly by a young woman who checked me within without any fuss and directed me to my room. Despite the person in the room above mine practicing their moves for the World Wrestling Federation, I was very impressed with my room. It was clean, mostly quiet, and had everything I would need for my stay. There was a suitcase stand in the closet so I could live directly from my suitcase, which made things much easier. I couldn't believe how sleek and modern the shower was! It was very inviting and luxurious, especially for the price I paid for the room. I was back and forth several times through the lobby and every time, whomever was behind the desk was friendly and wished me a good evening or good morning. I felt like the hotel really cares about its guests. Despite being woken at 6 A.M. by the vibrating alarm set by the person in the room above me and wishing my ceiling were thicker, this was an excellent visit. I will stay at Sleep Inn again when I come to Hickory to stay overnight! read more

I had business in town for several days, and stayed at this location. I was pleasantly surprised by several things, including the price ($55 per day), the location, the friendly employees, the cleanliness, and the included breakfast. No, it's not fancy, but them neither am I. IMPORTANT NOTE: This doesn't just apply to this hotel, but to other hotels as well. Be aware that making a reservation with a third-party service (Hotel.com, Trivago, Expedia, etc) might be a problem. Sometimes the third-party reservation gets lost in cyberspace and there's absolutely nothing the individual hotel can do about it. read more

Easy to find with lots of parking. Handicapped parking is plentiful and close to the front door. The entrance is clean and inviting. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The room is clean and smelled fresh. There were no problems with any of the amenities. There is a kind of space pod shower which gives enough room to wash and has a nice shower head. The hotel is near two main roads and it can be loud at night. If you need quiet, request a room on the other side of the building. It's closer to the interstate but you won't hear all the diesel trucks racing around on the weekend. We did not utilize the provided breakfast, so I can't comment. Everything else was good to excellent and well worth the money. read more

Overall: 2.5 Location and friendliness are top notch. I cannot say the same for the room or the breakfast. Room: sink was completely cracked all the way across. The room smelled of mold and there was significant mold at the top of the shower. The HVAC unit smelled like mold and would only work for approximately three minutes before completely shutting down. Breakfast: while on the surface, the breakfast offerings seemed more than adequate, the quality was not there. The sausage tasted like slime and I had to spit it out. The waffle maker did not work properly and the biscuits were hard, yet soggy from the warming tray. Significant attention needs to be paid to maintenance and to breakfast quality. read more

Have stayed here a total of 12 times, but never again. This "non-smoking" facility has ashtrays for the smokers about 8 feet from the front and rear entrances. Time before last I stayed I parked in the rear, went through a wall of smoke almost every time I entered from the motel. This time the smokers were there at the front when I checked in. A bigger wall of smoke assaulted me. Sign says "No smoking within 25 feet" the ash tray is 8 feet from the door ...DUH.. received blah-blah non-response from Mike Patel, representing the motel, he did not read the review, but invited me to stay again and again be treated to walls of smoke whichever entrance you use!! Unless you are a smoker stay elsewhere. read more

My 7/09 review was four stars, and I have to now revise to three. The property is starting to show its age, and is beginning to need a major renovation. I had problems getting the shower hot enough and with enough water pressure to my liking. Room had no facial tissue. Breakfast bar had sausage gravy and of all things dinner rolls, not biscuits, as the bread. There were no eggs, and the juice machine that was labeled "orange juice" was dispensing either a grape or cranberry colored juice. read more

Cheap for a reason. This place looks like a decent nights sleep but you're better off anywhere else. The walls are paper thin. In town for my step moms funeral, I was continuously awakening by the neighboring room while they fought, watched tv, and any other time they made any noise. Never have I heard the phrase "where my white b*tch atttt" so much in my life...must've been a good show. The neighboring room literally never went to sleep for 3 days straight...probably meth. The AC broke on night two which led for really uncomfortable nights and made it impossible to drown out the sound of the neighboring room. The shower was dirty. The towels need some oxy clean. Sanitary is NOT what I would call this place. Room was NEVER dusted, the floor was dirty (socks got grey on the bottoms) seen little dust "bunnies" in the corners of the room. mold was present on the bottom of the shower door. The room keys would not stay magnetized to enter the building or the room, constantly had to get the cards redone and I did not even had the cards close to any electronics to demagnetize them. FRUSTRATING. The staff was VERY friendly and always helpful that is why the 2 stars otherwise it would not get that many. read more

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms were nice, clean, and the beds were comfortable. We liked their daily breakfast that was offered. It was also nice to have coffee available in the lobby. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. I gave it 1 less star because even though we did stay in a non smoking room, there were times when we could smell smoke. As someone else mentioned, the hallways did smell smokey too. read more

My friend and I stayed one night at the Sleep Inn. The room was small but comfortable as were the beds( comfortable not small :) ). During the early hours of the morning, we were woken by the sound of water raining down thru the ceiling of the bathroom and it appeared to be coming from the shower from the floor above. It was pouring out of the light/vent in the bath and we were concerned that the electricity would be impacted. We stayed in room 223. My friend went down to the front desk and was told that they were not allowed to leave the desk not even to assess the situation. We asked for, and were given, a key to a different room to try and get a few hours more sleep and shower. Needless to say we had clocked out of the Sleep Inn at 8 am as it was futile to try and go back to sleep after the dislocation of having to move all our items out of the other room. Compounding this, when I jumped out of the bed at the water sounds, I was not sure if the ceiling had fallen in or something, and in my haste, I got a spasm in my back. This really curtailed my enjoyment of the remainder of my vacation and necessitated a visit to my doctor upon my return home. The spasm went away after more than a week. The front desk were unmoved at the inconvenience and were not able to discount our stay in any way, indicating they did not have the authority to do so. So, while the room appears nice, the lack of authority shown by the staff's inability to assist with this issue would dissuade me from ever considering a future Sleep Inn stay. I guess ya get what ya pay for. read more

The incident occurred today at breakfast i make smoothies in my room this morning the Managers wife Reina Patel address me and ask for my room number when I grabbed 6 bananas. I provided the information and continue to walk out the breakfast area. Then she follows me and asks again for my name and room, and if I'm with the school that's training I told her yes provided the info again. When walking she states with an attitude I can't walk outside breakfast area with food. She states there is a sign you can't do that. Mind you there re 3 individuals walking out with plates of food and she had not stated anything to them. I was trying to inform her I making smoothies for my classmates she again stated I can't leave the area. So I place all 6 bananas back. Then while walking out I asked the front desk if i may bring my blender down and am I not allowed food from the area. They stated they are not sure why she addressed me because there are people right now who is currently doing it. The front desk ladies advice nothing in there policy states nothing about blender being used so go ahead n make your smoothie down stairs. I went upstairs grabbed my machine and went to the breakfast area. Now this time I just grabbed one banana went to the corner and made my smoothie. This is when Mrs. Reina was very unprofessional. She addressed me stating I cannot do that and bring personal items in the breakfast area. I asked ma'am people are using their cellphone, electronics, chargers etc. I asked "where does it state in your regulations I can't?" She continue to get upset, rude & loud. Mrs. Reina said " the paper you signed said you can't have the machine" my response "No the documents states any heating food equipment crockpots, grills, toaster etc this is a smoothie blender not a heated equipment. Mrs Reina "I dont care I say you can't do this. Myself: may you please guide me in your regulations or provide me additional documentation it states that. Mrs. REINA you need to stop this you could of done this in your room you cant take 6 bananas you can take one banana when leaving the area Myself: "ma'am that's not what you stated to me you just told me first I couldn't leave the area with food I will have to eat the banana here which I'm doing now." Mrs. Reina your being disturbing to guess I tell you can't take 6 bananas just one banana be considerate to every guest. Myself "well ma'am if you would of informed me with the proper information I would of done such, and have my roommates get their own if you picked a better choice of words when addressing me the first time and your upset because I'm here. So am I allowed to walk out with a banana yes or no? Mrs. Reina:No your not Okay fine thank you allow me to drink my banana in peace and she was upset and taken pictures of me with my smoothie. Now when apple to front desk they stated they were getting yelled at for allowing me to take the machine down. And I asked for the information for corporate and Director name info. That's when I was inform Mrs. Reina was the spouse of Manager Manesh Patel. When try speaking with him in reference what occurred would allow me to speak phone call didn't last 3 minute and he stated if I don't like it to leave. That he already knows what happen. So when communicated with corporate choice plans they stated nothing can be done until I leave. Which is upset because then Mr. PATEL called my training facility stating I made threats when I have room full of witnesses stating otherwise. When I reported to corporate that false information being provided and feeling no longer welcoming all they stated they can send out a email to the management informing of policies. But once I post this comment I may be removed from the Hotel bc the management may state I'm starting issues interfering with training. So I do feel targeted of this situation. read more

I had a great experience here - pleasant, hospitable and knowledgeable professional staff, clean room, nice breakfast, laundry facilities. Much to my regret had stayed at the Hickory Days Inn the previous night and had a nightmarishly awful experience there. This place restored my faith that a good hotel room can be had for $75 or less. It's fine. Not the worst hotel I've ever been in. My chief complaint is that the walls are so thin that you can hear the people in the room next to you having a conversation or sex which can be annoying at 2 am when you have to get up for work the next day. I also have mold allergies and my nose was stuffy the entire time I was in the hotel. The moment I stepped out, allergies were gone. I will say that the staff was incredibly friendly though - 5/5 stars there. read more

stay away!!!! tubs are a death trap. i slipped in the tub bruising my shoulder,hip and knee. its been 2 weeks, no apology, desk clerk lied says she offed med help but she did not. they fianlly offered a one night refund.....2 and an apology would be better. will never stay at another choice hotel!!!!!!!!! read more
