When I first met with David, I felt seen and validated. I trusted the process fully. He asked me not to look up side effects before I committed to the treatment by paying the fee, so that my anxiety would not interfere. This seemed reasonable at the time, and I personally believe that David had good intentions. After I paid, I recall the conversation leaving me with the understanding that there weren't any side effects I needed to be concerned about. I am not saying he was intentionally dishonest, but I wish I had researched them myself. I developed severe side effects, including uncontrollable physical and cognitive anxiety, extreme daytime sleepiness, and altered visual perception. When I told David, he dismissed and invalidated my concerns, insisting that the symptoms had nothing to do with the treatment. When I asked why he had not informed me about possible side effects, he questioned why I hadn't looked up possible side effects myself and implied that it was my responsibility to do so. That response was profoundly unethical. As a mental health provider, it is his responsibility to disclose potential side effects, not the client's responsibility to guess them. Although neurofeedback is often advertised as non-invasive and side-effect-free, research shows that it can cause significant side effects. Neurofeedback changes brain function. Even if no current is being sent into the brain, the algorithm reinforces some brainwave states while discouraging others, which reshapes how the nervous system regulates itself. Side effects can include worsened anxiety, agitation, mood changes, and disrupted sleep because the brain is being trained away from its natural rhythms. This affects the entire body, as brainwave patterns influence the autonomic nervous system, hormones, and sleep cycles. Any provider who claims a treatment can significantly change brain function for the better but refuses to acknowledge that it can also cause harm is not appropriately trained in the science behind psychological treatments. My side effects left me terrified that my brain had been permanently altered, and I was left to face that alone. David refused to answer further questions until I mailed back the equipment, simply because I had expressed that I was upset. I returned it immediately and never intended to withhold it. Over time, I became suicidal due to the severity of the side effects. I want to be clear that I am not saying David caused me to feel suicidal. However, he failed to fulfill his ethical duty of care and did not show empathy or accountability when I was in distress. When I later consulted licensed neurofeedback doctors, they confirmed that I was experiencing acute side effects from the treatment. After three months and intensive mental health care, my symptoms began to fade, and I am doing well now. This was a traumatic experience, not because neurofeedback itself is inherently harmful, but because of the lack of transparency and support I received on top of the strength of the side effects I was experiencing. David may have followed the technical steps correctly, but he failed to inform me of the risks and treated me with deep disrespect once I raised concerns. If you decide to pursue neurofeedback, please research thoroughly and choose a provider who will treat you with respect, transparency, and empathy and who will openly discuss both benefits and risks. read more

This company is a fraud. I signed up for the sleep recovery program a month ago. The first four sessions was $600 and I was told by the owner that if the first two or so didn't work, he'll refund my money. Prior to our first meeting, I talked to my doctor and we realize that there's a possibility that because of my type two diabetes and whatever snacks I'm eating before I go to sleep that that might be affecting my sleep more than anything else, having to get up to use the bathroom at three in the morning could be the issue. The owner of the company did not ask me any questions about my medical history, so when I told him about it in the second session, he got upset with me. This sleep recovery program is not based in any type of science, and it was pretty interesting that the guy will get mad at me after my Doctor, WHO IS A DOCTOR AND BASES HIS FINDINGS ON SCIENCE, told me that it could be something else. This company is a money grab. Playing music on a laptop, with electrodes on your head? No refund was given. I am also a retired firefighter dealing with PTSD and taken advantage of? Some background going into this, I had a terrible case of insomnia. It started a few years ago, but for a few months in 2022 it got really bad, where I would only be getting 5 hours of sleep per week. I was desperate for help, and was seeking another solution other than Ambien or "don't use your phone, take Melatonin, and just don't worry about it" advice from the internet. I found Sleep Recovery on Yelp and was immediately interested as it was not just another "sleep study" to see if I had sleep apnea. I connected with David and when chatting with him, it was a breath of fresh air to talk with someone who just got it, and had a complete understanding of what I was going through, physically and emotionally. I agreed to do the initial trial session and he sent me the equipment shortly after, keeping me updated on its arrival. Some things to note, you'll be chatting with David directly throughout the process, but he's very responsive and quickly answers any questions you may have. He ships you everything you need, including a laptop, headphones, leads to connect to you head and ears, conductive gel, and a Fitbit to track your sleep. Some other things I would recommend you have on hand is rubbing alcohol to clean off that gel and a comfy place where you can sit undisturbed, like a couch or lounge chair. I made sure to keep the conversation going with David throughout the sessions, sharing my Fitbit data to track my progress and letting him know if I had any rough nights or was feeling anxious. I noticed improvements once the trial period was complete, and decided to continue with David for the remaining sessions. It's definitely a process, and I do suggest you try other things in addition to help you fall asleep, like not forcing yourself to try and sleep too early before you're tired, or not eating too late at night, and getting sunlight and exercise. Once my 15 sessions concluded, my sleep definitely improved. I now get a consistent 6-7 hours every night, with maybe one rough night every other week. It's not 10 hours every night where I can fall asleep at the drop of a dime, but a major improvement over sleeping once a week like I was doing a few weeks ago. Before I had reached out, I was suffering from severe anxiety, depression, and OCD. My sleep was bad as I would usually wake up around 3-4 times a night. Sleep Recovery Center kept me breathing through a difficult time. I had had a hard time sleeping well for years. But the last couple months before starting biofeedback with David, even prescription drugs were not helping. Even when I did sleep a few hours during the night, I would get up in the morning feeling exhausted before I even started my day. I was fortunate to have a week off of work and David worked with me to fit in as many sessions as possible. I would say he went above and beyond the norm in helping me return to a reasonable schedule of sleeping well enough to get by during that week. Ive been participating in the Sleep Recovery program with David Mayen since Nov 2014. For the past few years (since I was 49yrs old) I've been experiencing heavily interrupted sleep usually only getting 3 - 5 hrs per night; at least 2 times per week I'd stay awake the entire night! Sleeping pills made me groggy and alcohol made it worse! After 3 sessions with David, I still had interrupted sleep, but i could fall back to sleep after about 10 min of reading. I'm a few weeks late in writing this review, but I wanted to make sure I did write as this was a very positive experience for me. I was having trouble with quality sleep, pre-menopause symptoms, anxiety and concentrating and focusing at work. When I met Dave and he explained everything to me, I was a bit skeptical because I didn't really understand how it works scientifically. But, he said he could help me. I did 4 sessions and I immediately noticed a change. I felt more alert and noticed I could focus more at work. I decided that the whole process would be worth it. I used to get blue ribbon awards for sleep. That slowly started to change with time and age (40s). Sleep became every more elusive, and it would get later and later in the night (or wee hours of the morning) before it would finally come. By morning, even without an alarm to wake me, I was still exhausted when I did wake. The over the counter sleeping pills stopped working at maximum dose. Prescription sleep meds made things worse. After a 4 day stretch of practically no sleep at all, I was at my wit's end. I can't even explain the state I was in - I wasn't safe to drive, make decisions of any magnitude, anything. My wife, Mary, has been experiencing insomnia since we had our baby 5 years ago. I gave birth to my son last September and it was the happiest time of my life but as weeks went by I could no longer fall asleep. I knew that sleep deprivation is part of the deal with a baby but this was different. I was UNABLE to fall asleep. I made multiple visits to the ER and also eventually saw a psychiatrist. They prescribed sleeping pills and antidepressants. I tried 5 different sleeping pills and none would do the job! I went 4 days without any sleep and started to have tremors and anxiety attacks. After returning from an extended stay overseas, I was not able to get back into a regular sleeping routine, always waking up in the middle of the night no matter what time I went to sleep. Sleeping pills were not any good and so I decided to check out Sleep Recovery Centers. All businesses get at least a few negative reviews so the consistent 5 star reviews led me to have some confidence in this treatment. After 4 sessions, I noticed an improvement of about 30% and now after 6 treatments I feel even more improvement where I am able to sleep through the night no some nights and not feeling as tired during the day. I liked the opportunity of being offered a 4 session trial so I would not have to commit a lot of money up front if the treatments were not effective. I am a client at the sleep recovery centers due to severe insomnia. It's been a long year since my problems all began. I wish I found out about David's services sooner, would have saved me so much trouble. My story starts with a perfect storm of stress and night terrors. I never had a movie dream where I spring out of bed, but that all changed last June. Soon after that I began to nap during the day then I couldn't sleep anymore. I went through all the sleeping pills, you name it I tried it. Last thing I ended up on is Seroquel 300 mg. Now down to 100 mg thanks to David and My doctor Igor Hunkoff for working out a solution. After trying all types of things from sleep hygiene, acupuncture, massage, cbt and EFT. This has been the only progress in terms of treating the severity of my sleep problem. The meds that I've taken to aid in my insomnia, (ambien, ativan , amytriptolene , lunesta, belsomra all caused my sleep pattern to go haywire. I lost all ability to sleep without pills. My body became reliant on the meds to knock me out. The sleep that I did get from the meds was at best less the poor. Now I'm a better person significantly compared to before sleep recovery centers. David has been amazing since the first phone call I had with him. He goes into great detail about the sessions and how it all works. He is very patient, flexible and accommodating which is huge in helping people like me who are sick and sleep deprived! The first couple of weeks and sessions I immediately noticed small changes. Although my sleep hadn't fully improved yet I noticed when I did sleep I was getting better quality of sleep and my energy levels during the day were more stable. Now at the half way mark I am starting to see the major changes I struggled with muscle spams that kept me up, anxiety around sleep and bedtime, taking me hours 5-6 nights a week to fall asleep and very interrupted sleep. Waking up feeling worse than before I went to bed the night before Now for 2 weeks straight, I fall asleep most nights immediately or within 30 minutes max, I have cut my sleep medication in half and the quality of sleep is so much better! Have had horrible sleep for my entire life! I have been on countless sleeping medications, none of which would work without terrible side effects. This entire experience has been amazing and I've told everyone I know about this nuero feedback therapy and how well it's worked for me. I used drugs and alcohol to help with my overactive brain and insomnia for so many years that I became reliant on them. After getting sober, the over activity, insomnia and anxiety came flooding back. Lack of sleep was making my life miserable. I was lucky enough to hear about this treatment and decided anything was better than not sleeping! I was blown away by the progress I saw in such a short amount of sessions. You listen to some relaxing music and you can even be on your phone if you'd like. I not only sleep longer ( 7 hours where before I was maybe getting 4) but I sleep harder.
