I was seen by a NP this week for a preliminary meeting to schedule a sleep study. I was sent for…read morethe sleep study by my rheumatologist. Wasn't terribly impressed with the NP although I can't define why. No personality and essentially asked questions I had answered on my intake forms. Front desk was exceptional, Melissa H. in particular. She was very calm and efficient while exibiting genuine interest. Another potential patient mentioned the same. I will say those on the phones are very good and get things done as well.

Very disappointed with the experience at the Hoag Sleep Center, especially compared to how things…read moreused to be when I first became a patient there in 2022. Since Dr. Miki Ohata left, the quality of care and overall organization seem to have gone downhill significantly, and based on my experience, it's not hard to understand why a physician may have chosen to leave. Dealing with Destiny was particularly frustrating. The customer service was dismissive, unhelpful, and at times outright rude. There was very little professionalism, communication, or effort to assist a long-time patient navigating an already difficult process. I waited nearly a year for my appointment, only to have it canceled because the physician quit. While they did notify me of the cancellation, nobody made any effort to help reschedule or offer an alternative appointment before canceling. Instead, I was essentially told that their policy "doesn't work that way," and that the next available appointment was another 6 months away. At no point did anyone appear concerned about the impact these repeated delays could have on a patient's health or continuity of care. The entire process felt disorganized, reactive, and lacking any meaningful patient support. After all of that, I was then informed I needed a completely new referral because I have an HMO -- something Destiny either failed to mention earlier or did not understand herself, despite me repeatedly asking what would be needed to avoid further delays and despite already being an established patient since 2022. Now I'm facing yet another 6-month delay for care. The lack of coordination, accountability, and basic consideration for patients' time has been incredibly disappointing. For a medical center with Hoag's reputation, this level of disorganization and poor communication is unacceptable.

When I first met with David, I felt seen and validated. I trusted the process fully. He asked me…read morenot to look up side effects before I committed to the treatment by paying the fee, so that my anxiety would not interfere. This seemed reasonable at the time, and I personally believe that David had good intentions. After I paid, I recall the conversation leaving me with the understanding that there weren't any side effects I needed to be concerned about. I am not saying he was intentionally dishonest, but I wish I had researched them myself. I developed severe side effects, including uncontrollable physical and cognitive anxiety, extreme daytime sleepiness, and altered visual perception. When I told David, he dismissed and invalidated my concerns, insisting that the symptoms had nothing to do with the treatment. When I asked why he had not informed me about possible side effects, he questioned why I hadn't looked up possible side effects myself and implied that it was my responsibility to do so. That response was profoundly unethical. As a mental health provider, it is his responsibility to disclose potential side effects, not the client's responsibility to guess them. Although neurofeedback is often advertised as non-invasive and side-effect-free, research shows that it can cause significant side effects. Neurofeedback changes brain function. Even if no current is being sent into the brain, the algorithm reinforces some brainwave states while discouraging others, which reshapes how the nervous system regulates itself. Side effects can include worsened anxiety, agitation, mood changes, and disrupted sleep because the brain is being trained away from its natural rhythms. This affects the entire body, as brainwave patterns influence the autonomic nervous system, hormones, and sleep cycles. Any provider who claims a treatment can significantly change brain function for the better but refuses to acknowledge that it can also cause harm is not appropriately trained in the science behind psychological treatments. My side effects left me terrified that my brain had been permanently altered, and I was left to face that alone. David refused to answer further questions until I mailed back the equipment, simply because I had expressed that I was upset. I returned it immediately and never intended to withhold it. Over time, I became suicidal due to the severity of the side effects. I want to be clear that I am not saying David caused me to feel suicidal. However, he failed to fulfill his ethical duty of care and did not show empathy or accountability when I was in distress. When I later consulted licensed neurofeedback doctors, they confirmed that I was experiencing acute side effects from the treatment. After three months and intensive mental health care, my symptoms began to fade, and I am doing well now. This was a traumatic experience, not because neurofeedback itself is inherently harmful, but because of the lack of transparency and support I received on top of the strength of the side effects I was experiencing. David may have followed the technical steps correctly, but he failed to inform me of the risks and treated me with deep disrespect once I raised concerns. If you decide to pursue neurofeedback, please research thoroughly and choose a provider who will treat you with respect, transparency, and empathy and who will openly discuss both benefits and risks.

This company is a fraud. I signed up for the sleep recovery program a month ago. The first four…read moresessions was $600 and I was told by the owner that if the first two or so didn't work, he'll refund my money. Prior to our first meeting, I talked to my doctor and we realize that there's a possibility that because of my type two diabetes and whatever snacks I'm eating before I go to sleep that that might be affecting my sleep more than anything else, having to get up to use the bathroom at three in the morning could be the issue. The owner of the company did not ask me any questions about my medical history, so when I told him about it in the second session, he got upset with me. This sleep recovery program is not based in any type of science, and it was pretty interesting that the guy will get mad at me after my Doctor, WHO IS A DOCTOR AND BASES HIS FINDINGS ON SCIENCE, told me that it could be something else. This company is a money grab. Playing music on a laptop, with electrodes on your head? No refund was given. I am also a retired firefighter dealing with PTSD and taken advantage of? This is not based in science BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY.

Danielle seems really sweet, but I truly wish we just got more out of our experience with her. Similar to what another posting had mentioned... I had really high hopes and was super excited to work with Danielle after the initial consultation. I had only booked 2 weeks of coaching which was $400. The services guide that was given to me says 24/7 support via phone, text, or email. I understand not responding to 4 AM texts but there were days that went by where I wouldn't hear a peep from Danielle. She pretty much ghosted us after week one. About 2 weeks after the initial two week contract, I received a phone call from Danielle apologizing, which I appreciated; however, I would've preferred upfront communication instead of feeling like I got scammed out of $400. She did offer to get my daughter in a good place for sleeping to make up for the fact that she was not really reachable during the two week contract but here we are again... a month and a half later and I haven't heard anything from her. No follow up or "how's your daughter doing with her sleep?" I've almost given up at this point because I still have a daughter who struggles with bedtime and still wakes at night, despite our best efforts and I'm out $400. Maybe she would be better when she's in person but I feel like the coaching package was a waste of money.

I kept having to chase her through text. She wouldn't text me sometimes for 1-2 days and this went on for over a week. Finally, I decided that this lack of communication when it comes to my kids is a no no. If this is how she runs her business, it's prob how she runs her life and that is how it will be with me and my kids and I just won't allow that. I went with Balanced Sleep instead and the professionalism and communication has been night and day.

I let her know that I was, and thought my appointment was 9:30 (it's 9:10, and I wasn't far). She was rude and told me that if I wasn't going to be there in the next 5 minutes, that she'd reschedule me. I explained to her about the mix-up in time, and she didn't care and sounded like she already made up her mind to reschedule me. Man, way to encourage a new guy to come to your office. Pass. Dr. Lo ran tests, did what she needed to get paid, but ultimately sent us away, stating that my mother's neurological test findings aren't indicative of any diagnosis. We saw a different neurologist, and immediately a specialist based off of his directive, and my mother was diagnosed with advanced stage Parkinson's. My mom's symptoms didn't change or drastically progress throughout this timeframe. I do understand that a parkinsons diagnosis is partially subjective, definitely at first, but she didn't even suspect it. She never uttered the word "Parkinson's" as a possibility, much less advised us to see a specialist/someone else who might help us figure out what my mom was experiencing. If Dr Lo really cared, and/or listened to her patients/testimony of patients loved ones, perhaps my Mother would be in a better spot. I have nothing against her personally, but If you're reading this, it is my advice based on my direct experience to find a different neurologist.

She was already booked at the time (I needed an immediate replacement), but she spent that evening calling colleagues in her network that may be available to assist me.
