We stopped in near closing time as we passed through on the way back to Indiana. Had a tasting, including the Winey Mary. Meghan provided amazing service and suggested mixing a Bloody Mary mix with their peach jalapeño wine. It was amazing. A must try for all Bloody Mary fans. We also tried Sol, Three Amigos, Pasión, and Sour Puss. All of which were good. Three Amigos and Pasión stood out the most. Three Amigos with its sweet grapy flavor and Pasión with just the right amount of dark chocolate. A must visit! read more

We were there last Sat., You can't bring your own snacks in their venue like you use too. You must buy their cheese and cracker's at their prices. Their wine went from $18,to $21.50, in a short period of time for roughly 6 small glasses of wine and drink the cheaper Three Amigos. The kicker to me is they make all their wine there and you can't bring you own snacks to enjoy while your there. The former owners would never have done this, very upset with Sleepy Creek. Keep that crap and they will lose customer's like us read more

My mom and stopped here recently for a break from traveling. Wished the weather had been better as a rain storm hit as we were enjoying sitting out by the pond. Beautiful outdoor space with plenty of seating. They have lots of event which you can see in there website I believe. The wine was decent. My mom who is quite picky did not care for it. They no longer allow outside food, but the ownership has not set this up to be a well-running food establishment. I fully endorse this place!! It was legitimately just like the photos. It's the only place to stay at the winery and is all wooden and beautiful. The place was equipped with so many bonuses like beautiful plates, wine glasses, bowls, as well as pretty much any cooking supplies and pans you could need. The charcoal grill was a nice bonus to grill burgers Sunday night. Plenty of charcoal in the kitchen pantry. Lovely bedding and and a gorgeous bathroom featuring soft bath towels, soap and shampoo in the shower, toiletries, and even a hair straightener and curling iron if one needed. The wifi held up well for two of us (third friend had troubles with T Mobile). We were even able to hook up a laptop to the HDMI cables and stream Netflix on the tv. The winery staff were always wonderfully friendly and welcoming, even before they knew we were staying there for the weekend. And Hobie the fluffy Maine coon was my favorite treat. As a cat person, I was excited when he joined us on the balcony. He kept visiting throughout the weekend and we bonded. He'd settle in my lap with precious purrs and longing meows. I have a Maine coon at home that looked a lot like him! Hobie kept me company when I'd go on the covered balcony to smoke. We brought groceries and cooked all weekend. An egg bake for breakfast. Lasagna and garlic bread for dinner. Burgers and salad for lunch. I would suggest future guests bring cheap Tupperware, foul, Saran Wrap, something to keep food if you want to. We ended up putting plates in plastic bags and tying them up in the fridge; very easy with all the groceries we brought! We all came from the Chicago suburbs and it was a nice getaway for Memorial Day weekend ... just far enough for the quick trip. Three days later, have no complaints at all! A+ vacation spot. Great little wine place in central Illinois. It isn't too far off the highway. We started with the wine tasting, which they had about 20 to choose from. (Give or take). I ended up falling in love with the wine slushy, while the others enjoyed their chocolate wine the most. Board games, cheese curds and friendly roaming cats. Love the ambiance and the great service. I have been here for a wedding as well which was a lot of fun, so it's nice to see it being a fun place for less formal engagements. Will be back soon. read more

I have liked their wines for years. I'm particular to reds. Today is my boyfriend and I's anniversary and we wanted to go get some wine, but I'd been wanting to visit the vineyard for a while and so we drove out as we'd both taken the day off. We were greeted warmly when we arrived. We wanted to look at the products other than wine for sale and they told us when we were ready for our free tasting to come to the counter. You get to try 3 wines for free per person. If you want to try 6, it's $3. They also have some wine drinks, these are mixed wine drinks. I love their Winey Mary. If you like Bloody Mary, you might like this. I did get to try their Wapatulli and it's their version of a sangria. It's really sweet, but very tasty. We ended up buying a couple glasses of that to sit down and drink. I also bought a couple of stemless glasses with the vineyard logo on it because I have a love for dragonflies and I like the name. The wines we ended up taking home were Wanderlust, Three Amigos, and my favorite from the wine festival last year, Lunacy. We will definitely be back for more wine. read more

What an awesome find! On our way to Kickapoo State Park for a picnic, my friend and I realized we had forgotten to pick up wine! Right as we were wondering whether St. Joseph would have a place to pick up wine, we pass a billboard advertising none other than Sleepy Creek Vineyard! What are the odds?! They have free wine tastings on the weekends, and fun events throughout the month. Things like Wieners & Wine every Friday, food/music/art festivals periodically, movies, live theatre shows, live music, etc. The wines this vineyard has tend to be on the sweeter side and have playful names like Sour Puss, Bull Headed, Three Amigos, Little Woody, etc. They also have these really yummy wine slushy mixes you can buy where you just add wine and ice (they are soooo yummyyyy. You can hardly taste the alcohol). Of the ones I tried, I liked their Bull Headed. It's one of their drier wines (though that's not saying too much as all their wines were pretty sweet), red, which had this yummy vanilla smell and finish to it. Their bottles range from $12 - $16, and they have a mini art gallery in the upper level of the tasting room. They also have a gift shop section that carries some interesting things, so have a look around. The staff is nice, and not pretentious at all, so don't feel intimidated at all if you've never been to a vineyard or to a wine tasting before. In one of the last places I would've thought to look for a vineyard, Sleepy Creek was a great find! I will DEFINITELY be back! read more

I'm no winery expert by any means, but I've had two wonderful experiences at Sleepy Creek. On my first visit, I came for their Wine and Wieners event on an overcast Friday night. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the bonfire outside made this spot the perfect setting to relax on a Friday night. I ended up choosing a glass of their Bashful Ewe and enjoyed it very much, being a fan of White Zinfandel myself! For my second Sleepy Creek experience, I headed down to Sleep Creek yesterday morning to be a part of their Purple Fingers Club for the day. For those of you that don't know, Sleepy Creek offers anyone interested the opportunity to volunteer and help them pick their grapes and prune the vines, among other winery chores. For every hour you volunteer, you earn a 1% off discount on wine products purchased on site (with the exception of drinks purchased to drink that day). While I'll only be in Chambana for another week, I think that it's really a nice option for those that live within driving distance! The staff was friendly and happy to answer any questions. I had a great time catching up with an old roommate of mine as we picked grapes and it definitely provided a different Saturday morning activity! Additionally, we were provided breakfast, lunch, and a free drink (their sangria was delicious!) plus we got to watch the grapes being crushed. My friend and I stuck around for a free tasting (3 tastes for free!) and, once again, had very accommodating service, only adding to our positive experience at Sleepy Creek. I wish that I lived closer to Sleepy Creek to be able to go more often! Also, heads up to all you Yelpers out there with the Yelp app: check in and get an additional 15% on purchases for wine! Clean, comfortable, and inviting environment. The majority of the wines are very sweet; so as a dry wine drinker, its not the greatest wine I've ever had. However there are a few dry wines, and the tomato jalapeño wine is really interesting. The wines are pretty good! I was worried that there would be nothing but typical midwestern sweet wines but they have a decent selection of the dryer stuff. Not the best wine I've ever had but still pretty good! They also have a halfway decent selection of beer so you know there's something for everyone. While we were here we noticed that there was a big group of people celebrating a birthday with cupcakes that they had brought so I guess they're okay with you bringing outside food too. Based off service alone. Or complete lack thereof. This was our 3rd annual trip to the winery with a group of 13. We walked in at 1pm on a Saturday and the place was empty aside from 5 other patrons but Sleepy Creek refused to serve us. The employee said that they could not take such large groups without calling ahead. Under normal circumstances, that'd be understandable but there was almost no one else there. She refused to seat us even as smaller separate groups. She was extremely defensive and rude. She refused to listen us as we tried to talk through the situation. Ultimately, we had the employee call the owner. After the call, she said she would serve us but did so in such a combative tone that we knew we weren't actually wanted so we left. It is unfortunate because we had had great experiences the last two years. It was surprising and sad how quickly they forced us out with no logical reason. Disappointed in the communication and the employee completely lacked any sense of customer service. Will not be going again as long as they continue to treat customers in that fashion. read more

My friend and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and had a lovely time. We were greeted upon entering and helped to some wine pretty much right away (my kinda place!). The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and kindly helped us navigate through their extensive wine selection and other drinks, which included a homemade cider, a warm wine, sangria, slushy drinks, and twist on a bloody mary that had jalapeno wine! Crazy! Our bartender gave us some background and history behind the vineyard during our tasting which elevated the whole experience for me. I stuck to more dryer wines which the bartender helped us stick to and didn't try to push the sweeter wines on us, which I appreciated. I was a huge fan of the Dreamer and the Bull Headed! I bought a bottle of the Bull Headed to bring back to Chicago! We ordered a couple cheeses that were sooo good and paired nicely with our wine. I loved the whole vibe of the place, I loved the barn, I loved the vineyard, I loved the furniture, and I loved that there was a wonderful view of the sunset. Everything was great! I went for the first time last night. We did wine tasting first. The staff was very nice, friendly, and helpful. I completely agree with the other reviews regarding the staff - not pretentious at all. A great place if you're just starting to learn about wine. They had a band from NC so that was enjoyable. They performed indoors which surprised me but worked out fine. If you are planning to go on a weekend, check the net to see if they are having a band because it's possible they will sell out. Nice selection of cheese, and a few, not a lot of good wines. They are working on a new release, Scapegoat. We could sample but not purchase. As other reviews said, their wines are agreeable if you're new to wine. Only negative for me is the seating is not very comfortable, and we got there late so we had to sit upstairs with no one else. Atmosphere is very casual...no need to dress up. Worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

I came to Sleepy Creek Vineyards on a Sunday after and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience! They had free wine tasting when I went, which was a huge plus! They had about 4 different kinds of white wines and about 5 different kinds of reds. They had their own version of sangria. And they had this slushy wine which was sooooooooo good (must try)! All of which I had the opportunity to try, for FREE!! They sold wine by the glass (about $5-7) and by the bottle (about $15-$17). They also sold cheese by the block (about $4-5) and they had a variety to choose from (pepperoni- chedder, cojack, sundried tomato cheese). They tables inside and outside so that you can sit down and enjoy your wine and cheese. They had a swinging bench outside facing a nice, small lake. I will definitely be going back! read more

I attended a Yelp event here on a Saturday evening and was given the opportunity to try three of their wonderful beverages. I chose the Sol, Scapegoat, and their Sleepy Creek Hard Cider. If you have the opportunity, try a glass of the Sol (wh). It is a wonderfully sweet dessert wine that is only offered during certain times of the year. By far my favorite! At a close second, the Scapegoat (wh) is also a fruity, sweet wine that is easy to digest. They paired very well with the dessert I was eating and I will definitely be back! The venue itself is very rustic and warm. The owner and staff are very inviting and were all very knowledgeable about all of their wines! If you are in Champaign-Urbana, it is definitely worth the short trip for a wine tasting! read more

This place is truly amazing. The wine was incredible, but my favorite was their Winey Mary (bloody mary). My husband and I came here to sample a few wines and was blown away by the friendly staff, views of the vineyard and the taste of their wines. They also have wine slushies which were very tasty and my husband liked their wine ice cream! I would highly recommend this place to wine lovers. They serve very basic snacks like chips, cheese and crackers. We also found out that they have a "bed and wine" where you stay for a night and get a bottle of wine instead of breakfast...who doesnt want wine for breakfast!? Spoke to Janet to try to get a refund for my tickets for the CU comedy show. The comedy show has been rescheduled twice already. I explained to Janet when I bought the tickets on a date that was convenient for me (day off of work) and she cannot expect all subsequent dates to be good for the patron. I went on to explain I was in a bad accident in April and am not driving and have 5 broken bones. She still refused to give me a refund. During this conversation it should be noted that Janet had an bad attitude and was impolite to me. I reluctantly agreed to receive a gift certificate in exchange for a refund. After 2 weeks of not receiving my gift certificate I called the winery and explained the whole situation again while speaking with Janet again. Janet stated, " I haven't been to the mailbox yet." She stated I will try to put it in the mailbox on Monday, with an attitude. I said thank you, if I don't receive it by Wednesday I will call you back. I received it Wednesday. I received the gift certificate 3 weeks later. I am very unhappy with their customer service. I bought tickets for a show for a certain date. Then Covid-19 happened. Give a refund for goodness sake! As the matron of honor, I rented the upstairs room at Sleepy Creek Vineyard for the bridal shower for my best friend. I spoke with the owner (Janette) on the phone the morning of the shower; the staff had no clue our party of 32 people were coming in that day. Given that I booked the event two months prior, one would imagine that would be ample time to notify this venue's staff of our event. No tables or chairs we set up so I took on setting up everything inside - mind you, I am 14 weeks pregnant. Erik did bring an extra table for food upstairs. Upon speaking with the owner in person and over the phone, she was incredibly rude; she demanded I paid an extra $30 for arriving 20 minuets prior to my "set up time" - it is helpful to note I arrived early because we had a winter storm dumping 7"- 10" inches of snow in our area the day before. I had already paid the $150 venue/set up/ tear down price, when she asked for the additional $30. After spending 10 minutes on the phone with her arguing about why I was there early, I spent the other 15 minutes she complained about setting up the tables that should have already been set up. In total, we spent an hour going back and forth. That time was wasted on a pointless conversation and time away from the celebration I put together for the bride. I cannot emphasize enough, the staff was extremely helpful and overly apologetic for the owner, and offered up numerous excuses for their boss, the owner, on top of which they repeatedly said - what might be the most appalling bit of information: "she's like this with everyone." We were told everything would be set up upon our arrival, nothing was; the bride contacted the venue asking about table linen, and was assured it would be supplied, the owner berated me in person, and over the phone for having the audacity to expect what we paid for and ranted that they have no obligation for table linens. Aside from how I, and our bridal shower was treated, I have to emphasize that the owner's communication with staff is terrible, she did not communicate with them about our reservation, and when the staff communicated to the bride that they could definitely provide table linen, the owner completely undermined their directive. In short, there are 32 guests who will not return or refer this venue for any event. This is really unfortunate because before today I this was a place that I would recommend to everyone. The staff did their best, but the owner made painfully impossible for the staff to fulfill agreed upon terms of bridal shower. Horrible internal communication, terrible customer service, and wholly unprofessional. read more

My boyfriend took me here for an afternoon date. He had purchased a deal on Living Social that included a wine tasting and tour of the vineyard. The tour guide Tony was AMAZING. My boyfriend is the type that likes to ask a million questions, and Tony was able to answer all of them. Not only was he knowledgeable, but he was also extremely friendly. All the wines sampled were excellent. I really enjoyed Bashful Ewe, while my boyfriend loved Winey Mary. So many different flavors to choose from. The location is beautiful. I came here with my sister- she lives right down the road. Everyone here is so so friendly. They let you sample a few different wines, and then offer them by the glass. We loved their wine ice slushy! I bought a bottle of their Sour Puss wine, which was a sweet white wine. They have a lot of super sweet options (I think the red is called Three Amigos), which is what I love. Cute little place, free popcorn, and I guess you could even stay as a guest in an upstairs room, or host a party there. I would definitely like to visit again! read more

We love Sleepy Creek! The wine is delicious, especially Bashful Ewe, Scapegoat, and Winey Mary. We also love the building and grounds, it's perfect for a romantic afternoon or to hang out with friends. We had the opportunity to stay at the B & W and really enjoyed it. It had a cabin vibe but all the comforts of home with a fully stocked bathroom and everything you need in the kitchen to cook or grill outside. We spent the night on the back deck looking at the stars and enjoying the sounds of summer. We can't wait to come back! read more

Nice winery but hard to find in the dark!! I really liked the Sol and I bought a bottle to take home. It was a smaller bottle for $20. It was a half size bottle I think. Only 2 glasses of wine in it.
