I have been here TWICE in the past 3 weeks, the second time this morning, and both times the staff was somewhat indifferent and didn't really care. This morning I needed help finding Brown-eyed Susans or another tall growing daisy, and I was directed to Jerry, who was supposedly helping another customer, chatting away as if they were the only two people in the entire world. I had a friend in the car waiting for me who had medical issues, and after waiting to get help from Jerry for 10-15 minutes I went back in and told the people at the registers that the lack of help there was unacceptable. Several people were at the registers and nobody was checking out. Why one of them couldn't have helped was beyond me. One walked over to Jerry and asked him to help me since my question was quick, not landscaping a whole yard, and Jerry sighed and said what I wanted wasn't in stock. I asked him what daisies grew to be between 2-3 feet tall and wide, and he finally helped me find a yellow one. 30 minutes in the store for what should have been a ten minute errand. The rest of the staff said they "didn't know" anything about daisies. WHY A NURSERY HIRES PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BASIC PLANTS IS BEYOND ME. When this was Navlet's you could get help easily, but now, as Sloat's, the ability to get real help is almost slim to none unless you have ALL DAY to wait around while they dilly dally and play dumb. read more

Selection and value are amazing!! However when I went to buy my first spider plant. Two employees that were on shift didn't say anything to me until I was cashing out and at that time I overheard a female employee just bashing and venting and bitching about corporate decisions and lack of communication.... Now I totally understand that frustration but she said it loud enough that I think the funeral home a quarter mile away heard her.... Not professional. I went to float garden center today to buy lettuce plants. The people that work there provide such wonderful service and one of the gals led me to wear all the vegetables were, and she pointed out herbs as well. I was disappointed in the selection of lettuce though because they were very guilty and maybe it's just because I came on a Monday and they got sold out on the weekend but the one I got was missing a lettuce plant but you don't get a discount for that I really think I should have. It was the only Romaine lettuce that didn't look like it was gonna die before I got it home. It is such a pretty store and there are so many fun things to buy, but it's so expensive. I really wanted this little dog statue for a day of the dead but it was $30 and I just can't afford that. If price were no object, I would be buying so many things they had a really cute Halloween display and the pumpkin selection was phenomenal. Parking is really easy. I think it's a great place. I just gave it a four because the selection of vegetables was really bad and they looked like they were on their last leg. read more

This is our new favorite nursery to go to! They have everything you would need for any sort of plant interest. There were seasonal produce sold like garlic bulbs, but also a giant section for tropical plants like zz, snake, monsteras, ferns, begonias, etc. As a houseplant enthusiast I was very satisfied. Their prices on some of their pots were impressive as well, you're able to find a good deal if you look. One thing that stood out to me was the friendly staff. You could ask them anything and they really do seem to genuinely care about helping and educating you on everything plants! Our focal point plant of our front yard, a 12 by 12 foot oak leaf hydrangea died almost completely over a couple of weeks. Sloat Pleasant Hill identified the problem, (voles or gophers) provided the solution, and we caught our first (hopefully only) vole. Good chance this beautiful plant will make a comeback! read more

Fancy garden supply. Fun store to explore. Prices are higher than other garden supply. But the plants are hardier and better taken care of than at Home Depot. 6 pack of perennials will run you 5.99 here at Home Depot 4.98. So not crazy. However the houseplants are way overpriced! I really dug the air plant display. Still a bit over the top with prices but I got ideas from it. Currently my daughter in law and I are working on her patio and we have different tastes in plants hence the trip here. She bought a lambs ear and a carnation plant. Definitely worth a trip if gardening makes you smile, even just to look. Side note- I accidentally broke some pots while there. They didn't freak out or ask me to pay for them. 4 stars. read more

The dude and I came to the Sloat Garden Center in Concord, CA on 05/29/22 as I am in love with everything garden and plants. I have always had a passion for nature which never went away but never had that special green thumb touch. But, during the pandemic which a lot time on my head I decided to get reconnected with my inner green thumb and have not looked back since! Every chance I get. I try to add something to my "Princess Garden" whether it is seeds, garden decor plants or even gifts. The Sloat Center did not disappoint at all as this is probably the largest Nursery/Garden Center I've gone to EVER. Upon walking in it HITS you in the face of the cute garden items which if I was an impulsive person I would have bought everything. My goodness it was a pleasant time looking at the gifts, garden items and seeds inside. They even had a good selection of air plants which is cool. I have never been a fan of indoor plants only bamboo plants strange I know. I honestly prefer outdoor plants. So it was nice viewing the indoor plants. My heart and soul is for the outdoor plants. We stumbled upon an employee who was arranging the perennial, heat tolerant and drought tolerant hummingbird plants. She was so lovely and sweet and answered all my questions as my ultimate goal is to fully create a drought tolerant and heat tolerant garden due to California's ever dry conditions making us more susceptible to droughts all the time so conservation of water is a MUST. I don't want to add to the problem but also for mental health purposes I need to garden. Anywho, the worker gave me so much information and education about the plants that attract humming birds (the dude was 100% SOLD). I asked if the plants will attract ants and she shared that no it won't but if there is ants on plants or garden it could be due to something the ants like - maybe aphids or a kind of mite - something like that so I left pretty educated. Plus, learning how to address and prevent the problem. I think I bothered one lady too much :( who was in a different section as she let me know I can find the information on the bottom of the signs for the plants. Which some plants didn't have that information. Which was why I was asking and some were mixed in with annuals. I am mostly interested in perennial plants only as I just cannot understand annuals. None of the annuals I had ever lasted a few weeks -___- its probably a ME problem but I've noticed that I find success with perennials for the most part unless it is something in the Sun Flower family. They had a lot of plants for me to choose from which is a GOOD problem to have but so difficult for me to choose what I want. My goal was is to only get between 3 to 4 plants. The dude helped me narrow it down but he was biased as he only wanted hummingbird plants. We hung out for a bit and eventually left to check out the items we got. More awesome stuff inside which was so beautiful. They even sell a lot of different soils too which I was so tempted to buy but the dudes car is so small which I had to pass. Also, they sell lady bugs! Which I want to get some as pets which would be cool but mostly to eat my aphids. The cashier was so friendly and warm. He was pretty cool. I have no complaints about my experience here. I honestly want to come back and explore more as we didn't get to see everything. When the dude and I arrived at his grandparents residence as they couldn't be left in the car. We put the hummingbird plants in their back yard lawn and immediately two hummingbirds flew by it. We were so overjoyed and couldn't wait to bring back home to Clovis, CA the plants permanent residence. Even in Clovis, CA the Hummingbirds found it pretty immediately just setting it down a few seconds which was really impressive. I am thrilled about the Sloat Garden center and I cannot thank them enough for helping me, educating me and bringing beautiful life to my garden :) I cannot wait to come back and get more plants as it seriously was a magical moment each time the hummingbirds found it so quick! I would highly recommend this garden center. You won't leave empty handed plus they have kids gardening tools too! read more

This is my favorite nursery/garden center in the area. I find myself coming to browse even when I don't really have plans to buy anything but end up making purchases anyway. The shopping experience here is much better than the big stores like Home Depot. The prices are a little higher but I prefer avoiding the crowds. They have a large selection of indoor and outdoor plants and supplies. I also love their pots that come in various sizes and colors of purple, pink, chartreuse, blue, gray, etc. When I need help with plants there is usually someone nearby to answer my questions. I highly recommend shopping here for your gardening needs! It becomes an addiction almost lol. read more

Navigating purchases during the COVID-19 pandemic takes a special level of expertise and inventory management skills. Sloat did not disappoint: they may not have a sophisticated ordering interface but their staff is prompt and knowledgeable about the types of plants you are looking for and the stock at hand. Kevin was super helpful to say the least. I placed orders over the website and received multiple calls updating me of my order status as items kept hitting their stock. The pickup experience was smooth and entirely no-touch as payment was able to be made over the phone. You could go in and explore but if you know what you're looking for it's best to let their staff fulfill the order through virtual channels to help maintain safety. read more

Reason for my 2 star. I really wish I could make it 5 because Marilyn and Kylea are amazing. However..... I called around 5pm and told them I was going there to exchange something. Due to feedback from a Roadie delivery and destroyed my Dracena. I loaded and lugged this huge plant in my car. They were expecting me. I get there at 5:45pm. BECAUSE YELP SAID 6:30pm. Employees where leaving. I asked a younger gentlemen about about 5"5 ish with facial hair what time they close. He said 5:30pm. I told him Yelp said 6:30pm in hopes you change it.. His response.. "I don't know what to tell you!" Super dismissive and rude. Wow! First time I have ever felt so invalidated and I've been to multiple locations. SLOAT please correct this behavior. I'm pretty sure this is not the customer service you would like to portray. I get you are off but when you are wearing the company uniform and still in front of the store. I came in on a rainy day and still enjoyed browsing their indoor and outdoor collection. I think Sloat started my new obsession with 2inch plants in cute little pots! So many 2 inch pots that I couldn't decide which ones to take home with me. I will definitely be back next time I am in town because it's easier to fly with smaller plants without damaging them! Usually a good experience although incredibly expensive and hard to pin anyone down. I called ahead to exchange a dead plant in what should have been a simply transaction but led to a frustrating process of identifying the plant and potential cause for its failure. The manager came but I was still dealing with the same employee who was dismissive and even asked me to take responsibility for her poor customer service. I was asked if I was a member to make this process easier and when I requested to sign up after the exchange, they said there would be some paperwork involved and time consuming. Kinda of unbelievable really but I got something similar to what I previously purchased. $70 still seems very steep for a gardenia that didn't last and never bloomed. This was my first time to Sloat's. Looking to do some spring planting and freshening up of my garden. I went with my friend and husband. We were all wearing masks, hers cloth and mine and my husband, a dust mask. It wasn't busy and no one was around us. We were outside btw. However, my husbands slipped down below his nose and she barked at him to cover his Nose. Then she turns to my friend and comes after her because she didn't have an N95 on (outside and others wearing gators and cloth masks) the employee came Over aggressively and said "I need you to put on an N95" My friend didn't want to put on an N95 and said no thank you. Very friendly and helpful employees made my trip to the sloat garden center a lot easier. I'm new to indoor plants and was looking for something with beautiful foliage that's easy to care for. There were two specific employees there that were able to point me to a handful of options and were very knowledgeable. Sloat has so many lovely plants and so many options to choose from that I was in there for at least an hour because I couldn't decide which ones to take home. I wanted them all!! Any person I've asked questions to has given me great advice and has been very kind. There are some plants I wouldn't buy here bc they are over priced but it is a beautiful place to walk through. Sooo!! I left a terrible review at their sister location in Martinez! This location is much better as far as customer service. The people that work here are very nice!! I'm scared to get plants from any of their locations because I have spent so much money only to have their plants infect my healthy plants with their critter infestations! The 250 dollar plus plants have alllllll had spider mite infestation. It's not worth the money. You can purchase plants online and get healthier plants from Etsy, that come from Florida vs. spending 30-40 percent more at a local nursery. Also, if you do get the more expensive plants quarantine them, don't put them next to your healthy plants. read more

I've been coming here for a few months now, primarily for home gardening and I have generally been pretty happy with everything. There is generally a good size and selection of plants (I was even surprised and happy to find that they had feijoas, my fruit love from New Zealand). Today, we also went to the Kids Camp activities. I brought my 7 and 4-year-old sons. Initially, they weren't super keen on the idea, but the scavenger hunt excited them and then they went on to complete most of the activities that had been set up (e.g. plant your own succulent, make a bird feeder and others). Tip: - Become a member (free) and earn rewards for $5 off coupons when you accumulate enough spending.
