This was a pretty standard bar place which happens to be right near the busy Waterloo station. We stopped in for a quick bite before a theatre show, and it got the job done. There's no real indication of what to do, so you have to go to the bar to order even though there are menus on the tables. They do bring your food and drinks to your table, but it seems like they just assumed you know how it works there. Bar food is decent, though you probably wouldn't go there just for the food. But with all the drinks they have, you need something to soak up the booze, right? read more

They have a 20 pound tea which is awesome! It mimics any other average tea, and was great for a decent experience. Also: we went to the slug and lettuce in Watford, but it seems like all of them have similar layouts and menus. I recommend coming for tea - they have 3 different options: one with tea/coffee, the next with tea/coffee and 2 glasses of champagne, then the third with cocktails instead of tea/coffee We opted for the second option, but the server made it seem like we were only allowed to have either champagne or the tea? but since it's S&L's fault with the wording on the menu, she kind of honored it. We enjoyed the sandwiches, scones, and other desserts. It wasn't AMAZING but it was good, especially for the value and experience. My first day in London and I decided to pop into Slug & Lettuce in hopes to find an outlet and some food. Wow! The drinks good. Food was light and filling, but the star was the Iberico ham croquettes!! Perfect crunch and fry on the outside and wonderfully creamy and rich but not overpower filling. So good! read more

During the day time, it is a seat yourself style place- which is fine- but they are understaffed, so when you wait in line to place your order, it will take a very long time. Had a lay over in London on my travels, decided to try Slug and Lettuce because of their convenient location considering Big Ben and The London Eye. The happy hour cockail menu was incredible. The customer service here surpassed anything I had ever experienced traveling abroad. An employee "Mz" was incredible, easy to say he was the best server I had ever had. Friendly with very nice manners. Mz left a lasting empression I thought to share. read more

I love the name of this restaurant. We ended up here as its location is close to the London Eye. British fare in a lovely, spacious space. The food was good, pretty basic. I had the fish and chips (as you have to have them at least once while you are in London as a tourist) and have had better elsewhere. The mushy peas had mint in them which caused them to be a brighter than normal green. I had a hard time deciding how I felt about them. They were not bad, but the flavor and texture was a bit odd. My cousins had burgers and reported that they were good. We were here during off hours and it was not busy. This may be why our service was better then what other reviewers experienced. read more

I just want to start by giving a few warnings/tips. At night Slug and Lettuce becomes a full on bar. They do still serve food, but the place is PACKED, plays THE LOUDEST MUSIC EVER, and everyone is drinking. No one under 18 is allowed inside. There is a full bar/club downstairs and the restaurant area is upstairs on the street level. You will not be seated when you arrive unless you stand around dumbfounded long enough, so just go ahead and grab a table. There is some table services, but the waiters may take a long time to come to you. You can always just head up to the bar to order your food and drinks. Food: As far as food goes, Slug and Lettuce was pretty "meh." The menu is on the small side. Everything was fine, but nothing great at all. Portion sizes are average. Food prices are a little high, but nothing outrageous. The big attraction here is definitely the alcohol. They have some GREAT deals, which are available all day. We opted for the 2 for 1 cocktails. Drink prices are definitely higher than average, but with a 2 for 1 or happy our deal they are completely reasonable. Service: This is definitely not a typical restaurant. Service is really inconsistent and slow, but they're all friendly. They do eventually come by your table and take your order, but we had to wait a half hour almost. They are very quick about drinks, however, and they're very good about asking if you want another round. Atmosphere: As mentioned, Slug & Lettuce is definitely club/bar above all else, at least at dinner time. Don't come expecting a relaxed or upscale dining experience. The place is SUPER CRAZY LOUD because of the music and all the drunk people around. Also, it can get quite smokey inside due to everyone smoking right outside the entrance. I loved this place and it was so convenient. My hubby and I went to London and stayed at the London County Hall.. and decided to scout the neighbourhood for some place to eat. So we agreed on trying out Slugs and Lettuce for breakfast. Trying to embrace the London/ English culture we chose to have the "Traditional English Breakfast" with their "Traditional English tea with milk and sugar" OMG! it was so good! and the portion sizes were HUGE!! (we're Canadian btw, so our sizes are smaller than most places). I was so full I seriously didn't even have lunch. Everything was just amazing! The server was so polite and helpful. A-OK for lunch and going in knowing that you are in a touristy area of Tower of London. Due to heavy volumes they must receive, it did appear that staff is indifferent here, took a bit to be served and we were thirsty! Comes with a coleslaw as well. My friend got the open chicken pie, yes get it! It was great, the chicken melts in your mouth. The pastry was very nice and it comes with chips. We ordered "water" and she brought us 2 bottles of still water..that came out to be 1.85 pounds each. OUCH. I just wanted tap water! A big group of us came here before the cinema as we thought it would be a good place to come for a few drinks & a quick dinner. I would usually excuse poor service if we had come in unexpectedly as they may not have been expecting to be as busy, but this is always a busy location and I had booked a table in advance. I also explained on the booking that we would be arriving from 6pm (some at slightly different times, as & when we all finished work) for some food and drinks, and would leave in time for an IMAX showing at 8.30. I wasn't expecting the food to be gourmet, but I was expecting it to be edible. I ordered the Chicken Mango & Avocado Burger which is described as a 'grilled chicken fillet, topped with fresh mango, tomato chilli salsa and sliced avocado'. What arrived was dry and burnt chicken breast in a stale bun and a tiny smear of tomato sauce. The only plus point is that there was half an avocado on top, but unfortunately it was completely unripe and rock solid. There was also no sign of the mango at all! I ordered that burger as I thought it sounded exciting and flavoursome, but it was bland, dry and the ingredients were clearly not fresh. I complained to the waiter that it was burnt and about the lack of mango, he very unapologetically told me that had run out of mango and that was the last chicken breast, so he couldn't get the kitchen to replace it. Eeeexcellent. To make matters worse, the rest of our group then arrived at 7.30pm and when they went to order food from the waiter he told them that the kitchen had closed. He very rudely told us that this was 'normal practice' and that they stopped at that time every evening. We questioned this as on the front of the menu it very clearly states 'food served until 10pm'. The manager eventually came over and (very begrudgingly ) agreed to put their orders through as we had said on our booking we would be ordering food. When the food for the 2nd group did arrive half of it was missing. They ordered the 'feast for friends' which arrived without ribs, breaded mushrooms and grilled chicken. Once again they didn't acknowledge nor apologise for it, and seemed to hope we wouldn't notice. When we did complain about it he said that we could have some free chips (?!), and said it was impossible for them to refund the meal as the only person with authority to put a refund through was not there. Every time he came over the waiter had moaned to us that they'd had a very busy 3 days and were short staffed. I had only made the booking for our table the day before, so in my opinion if they were aware they were that busy and short staffed they shouldn't have accepted my booking as we could have happily found somewhere else to go. If we weren't in a rush to get to a cinema screening afterwards I would have made more of a fuss as this was one of the worst paid dinner experiences I've ever had. Really, really poor. read more

Ok, so not a great start when we arrived, we were kinda left standing around like lemons, but once we got our table it got a whole lot better. We got a lovely Spanish waiter, who really took the time to recommend wine to me and helped us with our food choices. This definitely added a star for me. Food wise, it was happy Monday so everything was half price and bargain tastic. I think for full price, I'd have given 3 stars because it's a bit pricey for a pub/chain restaurant, but half price it's a steal, so no surprises it was packed. I got the salmon, which was quite flavoursome and came with a few wedges, kinda a small portion and was definitely in need of a side - which my friend ordered in the form is sweet potato fries! Oh nom nom, seriously good! She got the butternut squash lasagne which she was loving. So main courses, ticked the boxes and then for the best part of the meal - dessert! That did more than tick the box - it blew the box out of the water! So frickin good! Situated just behind the gigantic London eye and next to the County Hall. I recently met my mother here for an afternoon drink and nibble. We ordered the most amazing mezze platter and it was filled with olives, cured meats, houmous, breads and cheese - we were very impressed. Situated just off the river Thames the clientele ranges from tourists, locals and business types. It was lovely to sit sip wine, eat nibbles and watch the London eye fill and refill with people. We had a lovely time but we were given a huge service charge that we felt was no choice. I would of rather given the waitress the tip but felt like there no point as you guys sneakily charged us £10 already. My daughter works in a slug and lettuce in London and she was super upset that it went to the company instead of the waitress. She knows how hard the waitresses and waiters work and she knows it won't go to them it will go to the company. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere at the Slug & Lettuce, the food was decent but we weren't there for the food. We were there for the 2 for 1 cocktails from 4-10pm. The first night we went, I ordered the Cherry Cola cocktail (you must buy two of the same exact drink to get the 2-1 deal), both drinks came at the same time. It tasted just like a cherry cola, with no alcohol. I got 4 of them before we left and I felt nothing, not even the slightest hint of a buzz. Their alcohol pour is short, very short. Our waitress was Marta, she was amazing. So friendly, happy to be there and helpful when it came to drink and food suggestions. We decided to try again the following evening as it was our last night in London. We had told Marta we'd come back to see her before we left, when we arrived, she had reserved a table for us, which I thought was very nice! This time, I ordered the Long Island iced teas, 4 drinks in and had a nice buzz, unlike the night before with the cherry colas. Their mojitos need work because there was way too much chopped ice. It should be simple: mint, sugar, white rum, limes, skinny glass, a few ice cubes and done. This one felt like a snow cone. When I ask for "medium rare, closer to rare", I expect at the very minimum for the meat to be pink, preferably still bleeding a little. The steak I was served was definitely a well done, dry with hardly any juice, & not a bit of pink anywhere in the middle. This was my second visit, to try their Monday half priced food. Last week a friend brought me for dinner & everything we wanted on the menu was not available, so we had the seafood basket, which is really a fancy name for frozen crumbed food you get get from boxes in the supermarket, deep fried for too long. Basically everything here is just overcooked. I'm only giving this two stars for value for money on Mondays. Any other day of the week, this place is a damn rip off. Truly terrible. Six of us came for lunch and it took staff forever to take our orders. On a Thursday. ‍ I went back up to the bar with the receipt and menu to claim back the difference and had the following, unbelievably rude, exchange with a barman: "Hi. I went hear when I had a cold, my nose was running one way, my throat the other. This small inconvenience, however, did not interfere with my brain. I went there hungry. At about 8:30. On the menu, it stated - Food served until 9! Ah destiny. But destiny it was not. Because little did we decide what we wanted to eat than our waitress came over and told us they were short one chef and the kitchen was subsequently closed. Then, they were out of the kind of tea I wanted. To top it off, the waitress seemed to avoid our table. Maybe someone placed 'ignore me' signs on our backs and we didn't know it. When we finally did get her attention, we asked her to bring over some biscuits - the kind that came with the hot chocolate. She brought over a lot and we were happy as feet in warm slippers. The place is overall okay. I chalk up the mediocre service to some odd anomaly due to an absent chef. Nevertheless, I wasn't so impressed that I felt an undying need to go back. I was told it wasn't on the menu and then when I pointed it out they got the bartender out who also said it wasn't on the menu. At this point I was willing to get something else but it was getting a little awkward and they just kept saying that they could do it. Then a manager came out and asked how I liked my hot toddy's made. I said again that could order something else but they insisted on making it. We asked the singular waitress to wipe down the table that we chose to sit at so we could enjoy ourselves. She lacklusterly replied that "she was busy and we would just have to wait" while making no effort to assist us. We found another table that was the cleanest, cleared it ourselves as she was nowhere to be found and wiped it down as well. I had the "butternut squash lasagne with spinach, goat cheese and roasted tomato" and the best thing about it were the skinny fries that came with my son's cheeseburger. I could not detect any goat cheese but the dish seemed to be covered with something that appeared to be mashed potatoes. My son gave his burger 2.5 out of 5 stars. Hubs had quinoa chili, and when I asked him how it was, he said his beer was fabulous. (Estrella from Barcelona).
