So first off, in my opinion, there's nothing better than a neighborhood bar with cold beer and a good burger. We met our kids in Dayton, which is about a halfway point for us each, for lunch this Saturday. We'd been wanting a good burger so I started looking for options and when I saw this place it was a no brainer. Slyders did not disappoint! The burgers are done on a flat top that's probably been in their kitchen since they opened in 1948. Talk about flavor!! The burger is good quality, tender, and full of great beef flavor, cranked out on that flat top to a crispy brown exterior. Great fresh tomato, lettuce, onion, pickles and cheese make this burger oh so good!! Add a basket of perfectly fried HUGE onion rings and a cold beer, there's nothing better!! Top top it off the service was incredible. We had 3 or 4 guys stopping by checking on drinks, napkins, ect... The energy in this bar was comfortable and you felt like you were a "regular" even if you'd never stepped in the door before in your life. With big bear hugs and handshakes we left full of great food and a warm soul. Slyders is going on my "ride for a burger" list this summer on the bikes. A unique local spot. Helpful and friendly staff. I was there around 7:00pm it was full of patrons. Noise is above average loud. Jukebox music, normal conversation din, plus the happy drunk at the bar shouting his words. The food was above average. The "medium-well" burger contained quality meat but was dry. Next time I would add cheese. Burger toppings were fresh - lettuce, onion, pickles. The fries were good but not great. Overall four stars. read more

Friends of ours have raved about Slyder's for years so we finally had to go check them out ourselves. They have been around since 1948 so you know they're doing something right! We found out quickly that what they do extremely well is customer service. As soon as we seated ourselves, the bartender came over and took our drink order. From that point on, we had no less than 6 people check on us...each multiple times! When the server who took our order realized it was our first visit, she let us know that the kitchen is small and it might take a little while to get our food. We were happy to hang out with our beers as we waited. My husband and I both ordered the patty melts (he added bacon, I asked for a side of bbq sauce). They were very good....I loved the rye toast. Hubby liked his onion rings a lot but my fries were unseasoned and not very good. To be clear, Slyder's is a dive bar. Walking in, it smelled greasy and it was really loud, even though it was before 5pm. That being said, between the tasty burger and the excellent service, I think we'll be back! Oh! The good/ burgers! Best in the area! The truth- bar is awesome and drinks are well made. The staff work as a team. The place feels good and there is always good conversation. First impressions/ dive bar? Is this the place? Second impression/ my favorite burger and drink bar in the area, hands down. Service isn't always quick, they are busy- but I sit at the bar and enjoy another drink and leave with a full belly, and happy. What a great place. If I lived closer I'd be there once a week. A travesty was rectified this evening when we ventured over to Slyder's Tavern. How have I never been there before?! Classic, cozy, neighborhood bar complete with jukebox, we started with some hard ciders and fried mushrooms. R had a melt and I had a classic cheeseburger with American. You know I can't pass up a good onion ring, so I had those instead of chips. SO GOOD!! We tried the Friday night Walleye special a few months ago and it was fantastic. So, my husband and I returned last night with high expectations. Unfortunately, the fish was a huge disappointment this time. The fish was mostly breading. It was a very thick coating and that is about all I could taste. The thin strip of fish inside the breading was mushy and tasteless. It also was not hot. This seemed like the kind of fish you might buy frozen at the grocery store. The service was great and friendly. Anyone can have an off night so my husband and I will give it another try but it the quality is the same as what we got last night we will not be back. read more

By far the best burger, because it's in my hometown (IYKYK). We visit here at least once a month- it is our favorite local joint. The service is always tops, the beer selection is always fresh and new (with the regulars on tap too), and the burgers are 100! Every time. I have NEVER had a bad burger here. I usually get the Bacon Cheeseburger MR with American cheese- what can I say, I'm a purist- and fries. My husband gets the same but larger one and subs out for onion rings then won't let me steal any because "I made my choice". I guess since I'm vegan now, I should ask Joe to add a portobello burger or beyond burger or something. I'll let you know how that convo goes for me- HA! It can be loud, and extremely busy but that is what Slyders is because it's amazing. Slyders is a Dayton classic nestled in the Belmont neighborhood, very much a friendly place "where everybody knows your name". As the name implies, they're known for their burgers I love that you can customize to your heart's desire with 7 or 10 oz burgers. Onion rings are a must try. Reuben's are my fav. My husband's favorite is the Guiseppe Burger which is the Daily Special on Thursdays. All their sandwiches and apps are amazing too. Even better than the 1st visit ( the fish was a little thicker ) Was packed again and sat at the ultra crowded bar ( try to avoid ) bad height - slippery uncomfy bar stools and elbow to elbow. I'm from a small town of about 600 people, and was recently visiting Dayton. Stopped by this place and the atmosphere was very reminiscent of the small town tavern vibes I get back home. It was packed at 6pm but I was by myself so I sat at the bar. The bartender was a friendly gentleman who asked what I wanted and when I told him I wanted to try local suggested the Dayton Brewing Peaches Peaches Peaches. It was great. Then to eat, he suggested I have the daily special--a barbecue burger. The other two bartenders were lively, and had a sibling closeness energy about them. It was such a welcoming atmosphere I decided to bring my two colleagues after their planes arrived later that night. While the kitchen was closed by that time, the bartenders and our small group shared some laughs and we had a couple drinks. They convinced us to return on Thursday for the Italian burger. Spoiler alert, that one was pretty fantastic too. All in all, I think Slyder's is a gem with good people, good prices, good food, and a small town feel. read more

This joint was jumping on mid-afternoon Saturday. A staff member caught our eyes and directed us to the only open table...later he shared that they were actually a little slow (!) at the moment. It's always busy here and for good reason. A boisterous, loud tavern experience. Amazingly good service. Jason welcomed us first timers warmly. He took our orders and explained the 3-person serving staff shared all duties. I saw all three on the floor and behind the bar at different times- bussing tables, mixing drinks, checking customers. There were at least three cooks I could see in the kitchen working non stop. Food was delicious and portions generous. The Reuben sandwich was the bomb - it was pressed between grilled buttered rye slices with the dressing on the side. A great idea. Such a happy friendly crowd, including those standing around the perimeter waiting patiently for seats. Parking is a little tight but I hear the Walgreens across the road makes their lot available to Slyder's patrons. This is a landmark establishment in business since 1948- here's to many many more years. Hope to return soon! read more

A great neighborhood tavern with a rich history of serving the Dayton community for decades! Slyders is a smaller tavern that is almost always busy and for a good reason. My wife and I recently moved to the neighborhood and have visited Slyder's every weekend for the last month. We have yet to find anything on the menu that wasn't amazing! My top picks are the Hamburgers, Ruben sandwich and the wraps. Everything is top notch. Love Slyder's for burgers and chili cheese fries. Whenever I crave a good burger, Slyder's is my go to place. The chili cheese fries are very good. I did notice that this last time though they were in a small fry type tray versus the platter they use to be served on. Still the same great flavor though.
