I found this place on Instagram, and decided to check it out! There are aisles upon aisles of craft supplies, all reasonably priced. Vintage fabric scraps and vintage patterns for 25 cents! I love that they have kits for kids (or even adults) to learn how to do certain crafts, like a beginner small quilt, crochet, learn to sew, pizza box crafts, and more. Everything was organized into tubs, labeled, and very easily accessible. I loved their selection of vintage appliqués! They also have grab bag style assortment of things for a variety of crafts (junk journaling, scrapbooking, key chain kits). My kids loved looking around! Great place to peruse for fonated art supplies. Was in the area for an art retreat & stopped in here to see if I could find anything I "needed." The stock rotates as supplies are donated, so you never know what you'll find. On this day, there were bins out front with free stuff. After checking out, I added a donation to the "donations" jar since I took some free stuff. They employee specials needs people which is yet another way they give back. Their business practices are not posted publicly and there is wide variation between what various employees/volunteers say from day-to-day. I called and offered to pay the full listed price for an item that was large and that I'd need to borrow a pickup to transport. I was told there was no need to pay or make a deposit in order to hold the item to the following day. When I called at opening the following morning, I was told by their director that it had been sold to someone who arrived that morning. I was already in-transit with a borrowed pickup when I was brusquely advised that "that's the way it goes" by the director. read more

This is a gem! I saw it advertised on Facebook as something I might enjoy. Stopped by to check it out. Supporting special needs people, this is a wonderful place to frequent. Donations are random so you never know what you will find. Prices are amazing and selection is varied. You never know what goodies you might come across. The "bolts" of upholstery fabric are such a bargain. Yardage varies. The paper craft supplies are mountainous. Friendly staff keeps the items fresh and the store looks wonderful. I believe volunteers come in periodically to reorganize the store. Closed on Mondays is a bit sad...lol. But open six days a week is pretty darn good. read more

This place was so fun, it was like being on a treasure hunt. They literally have a little bit of everything. Now, a little digging is required and there are some very well used pieces and and some brand new stuff but if you are willing to put in some time, you could find all kinds of great things. The staff was super nice and let you look around at your leisure. And the sales go to an awesome cause so it's a win win! Crafters, crafters, CRAFTERS!!!! This is your new favorite place. Goodwill - thrift store-socially empathetic-environmentally friendly- recyclable place you must check out and visit often. It is a thrift store for crafters or wannabe crafters. You come here to buy or recycle what you don't need. They hire a few people to help with organize and they take like.... Everything. Hoarders out there donated their cracker barrel empty syrup bottles. Not sure what you do with those, but people donate them and people buy them. One wall is for crafters to sell their wares, a consignment like situation. Very cool. They have paints and canvases, soda pop tops, not sure what you do with those...but someone more creative than me will buy them. Scrapbook papers, embellishments, handmade cards, tools, flowers, baskets, wooden pieces painted and not painted, florals and stems. Think of anything you want and pending the day and if I have already been there, you may or may not find it THAT day. It changes daily. My friend scooped up a peg board, brand new while waiting on me. Also, they are the NICEST people you will ever meet. They love their mission and they love to assist wannabe artists. Wish they really had a place to craft while there, but real estate is hard to come by. They may be moving due to this influx of Nashville love. Hope they stay close! Get on their mailing list to receive coupons, classes and promotions. If you buy a bag for 6 dollars you get 10 percent off. If you check in with Yelp you can get 5 percent off. The bag is anytime you go, the yelp promotion is just once. I walked out with OMGoodneds I should be embarrassed, yeah, I'm not, I think 6 bags, maybe 8. I had help and did not look back. Just put in my car and it was Christmas when I came home. My stash included, handmade cards, wreaths, ribbons, wooden embellishments, 2 bags of sea shells, storage and organization pieces, twist ties, bags, stems, garland, paints and small ceramic masks-no idea what I am going to do with those, but for 1.5 a bag, how do you say no. There is a project involved, I know it, I just know it yet. It is plethora of artsy projects ready waiting for the perfect idea. Channel Picasso before you go to get some motivation and imagination. If you think you need something crafty, give them a shot, I bet you can't leave without buying something for another project. read more

This place is a gold mine for the artistic minded! :) The store is very well organized, more so then any other scrap art supplies store I've been to, and I LOVE these type of places so I search for them while traveling. They have everything from yarn, fabric, scrap booking, candle making, buttons, paints, wood work, frames, glass, crayons, glitter, pom poms and so much more! If you have a certain project in mind, or if you're looking to be inspired for a new project to create in your spare time, just walking through the store will give you tons of ideas. I spent over an hour treasure hunting. I left with a basket full of goodies and lots of new things to create! Dig through the boxes! Don't be shy! This reminds me of a recycled market we had on my undergraduate campus. I went here looking for affordable haberdashery and hair fascinator materials. I managed to scoop up some decorative ribbons, fabric, and a handful of sequins all for under $5. However, it took major explorer skills, despite the store's high level of organization. Not to say the store doesn't have a plethora of craft materials, ranging from doilies to cigar boxes and costume jewelry. Space is a bit tight, cordoned to two front rooms with the back restricted for staff only. I definitely would come here with a mission in mind, or risk picking up everything you can as inspiration for a craft. Keep an eye open for specials, like fill a bag for a specific price on certain dates. Very cute store and, bonus, they take card. read more

If Smart doesn't have it, you don't need it. Really! That pretty much speaks for the variety of mostly donated art and craft supplies you'll find within the green walls of this store. Fabric, sewing notions, paint, paper, brushes, vintage linens and scarves, yarn, leather, wine corks, every occasion cards, jewelry-making supplies, floral, ribbon, household kitsch and trinkets, craft kits for bored kids to make-up, guitar strings, clay, artist glass, doll parts and the inventory changes EVERY SINGLE DAY... If you haven't been to Smart--or been there recently--make a trip to Music Valley Village strip mall across the road from Opryland Hotel. You'll be glad you did! If you haven't checked out the SMART Scrap Made Art store, which benefits developmentally disabled individuals, over in Berry Hill, it's totally amazing! I will never go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby again without checking this place first - they have it ALL and for super cheap and completely organized. http://www.smartsupplies.org/ is their Web site and they take donations - even strange-ish stuff that I never know what to do with, like leftover yarn, styrofoam peanuts, random decorating bits and bobs, pretty much whatever, and yet the store is still somehow immaculate and easy to shop. I hesitate to review SMART because I still feel like it is somewhat of a "secret" that I want to keep all to myself! This store has everything going for it- wonderful cause, wonderful/kind management, and great prices. If I'm ever in a crafty mood, I am always sure to check out SMART before any of the big retailers because there is a good chance I will find what I need at a much lower cost. For being somewhat of a thrift store, everything is very organized and easy to locate. There is rarely a time that I've gone and not walked away with at least three things I had been wanting. If I were a crafter, I would never leave SmART! They have an incredible selection of beautiful fabrics, buttons, and anything you can possibly imagine for art and crafts projects (bottle caps, wine corks, costume jewelry, art supplies, paper, cigar boxes, etc.). I love their mission - they are the social enterprise arm of Progress (my favorite nonprofit) that provides services for people with intellectual abilities and seniors. SmART! also employs people with intellectual disabilities who will help me take donated items out of my car and stock shelves, etc. While I am not a crafter and have no artistic ability, I know that I am not making the most of what SmART! has to offer. That said, they are my only source for gift wrap, ribbon (for gift wrapping), gift bags, baskets, and cards. I found the most gorgeous Thank You cards from Hallmark - practically for free! Everything is ridiculously cheap. It is well organized and I know that with every penny I spend there, I am helping the elderly and people with disabilities, and am helping the environment (because all of the merchandise has been donated by others). And have I mentioned the prices? Prices at SmART! are a small fraction of what I would spend anywhere else for the same items. If you haven't been there yet, you need to go!!! read more
