A brand new facility, all indoor, clean, secure and most importantly two of the best customer service folks Ive met. Reserved a unit online, and when I got there to pay and sign Ms Shiela greeted me as I came through the door... she took me to the unit i reserved, listened to what I would be storing, and suggested a slightly larger unit for about the same price. She and Ms Julie were both very engaging conversationalist as the paperwork and details were executed. Thank yall for being so awesome. It will be nice to have the covered loading dock today considering the frog stranglers that seem headed our way OH, I didnt mention the tremendous deal ( 50% off first 3 months, no minimum)... Clean and secure. Started out at $100 a month. Been there a year and already got my 2nd rate increase. In 1 year it went from $100 to $279. They do this to everyone. Ridiculous business model. read more

Best and cleanest storage facility with amazing manager. Julie will go above and beyond to help you out! She will find you the best deals, the closest storage units to the entrance (and elevators if you are on the 2nd floor), as well as getting you set up on auto pay so you don't have to worry about pmts anymore. She will call you if there is any issue with your card to avoid any late fee too. She is on top of what is going on with her storage facility! It's a very safe place to keep your stuff and 100% climate control with no bugs! I have had various units here over 5 years and it's the best I have come across in all my years of storing! This is not climate controlled and everything inside the unit gets filthy and covered in stink bug carcasses. They raise the monthly rates pretty consistently with very little notice and the rates are the same or more than a climate controlled facility. Unless you must have storage here due to location I do not recommend it. There are so many other self storage places in the area with climate control and indoor access that limits the bug issue. read more

Very happy with my smart stop experience! I booked the unit sight unseen as I was moving in from out of state. Julie was so incredibly helpful in making sure I found a unit in a safe part of town and one that was a good fit for the items I was storing. I was having a pod delivered to the storage unit and was so happy about their designated pod area which made unloading very easy! Julie showed the pod driver where to place the pod and made sure my unit was as close to the pod area as could be. When I was in the office signing the lease Julie recognized each customer coming in and remembered their storage unit number and dimension. The facility was very clean, well maintained and the customer service above and beyond! read more

I currently rent 2 large climate-controlled storage units at 3175 Sweeten Creek Facility, in Asheville, NC. Don't get me wrong, these are nice but Smart Stop is going to screw you every year with a rate increase -because they can! Last year they had a (9% rate increase from $220 to $240 per unit. I thought they may have paused this year, but today 9-3-2020, I got a "rate change notice" in the mail that the rates are increasing from $240 to $260. They never call it a "rate increase" notice on the headline of the letter, only a "rate change notice." They must think we're stupid and won't think of it as a rate increase, and an 8% one at that. Then they say in their letter "in order to maintain our high standards...." They're NOT improving their standards to justify these rate increases, only " maintaining!" Then they go on to say this rate change is to "provide you (me) with the customer service you (I) deserve. " I don't deserve to get back to back (9 and 8 rate increases in two years!) What a condescending bunch of expletive deleted. It is this notice and the way it was written that has set me off on this rant. They only give me the phone number of the manager whom they will be serving as cannon fodder for the customers' rage. I know both of them and they are very friendly and good people and I don't want to light into them. They only work there. SmartStop doesn't list any corporate contact number, e-mail, or address on the notice. Then when you go and try and look at some reviews, they have obviously planted around 12 "cookie-cutter" 5-star one-liners, but there is no method for you to post your review, so these are all fake. This is advertising/promotional censorship and dishonesty. Basically this "rate change notice" is a sniper attack being delivered by a greedy and shady management system. And they have the gall to try to spin this as they have. They should just come out and say it. "We're going to raise your rates again because we can and we don't care because we want more money. 17% increase in two years just isn't enough." So the question is whether they will raise the rent $20 next year or increase it $30 to keep the same percentage cumulative rate increase. I'm am not going to wait and find out. So I am looking at selling off my stuff rather than store it. The old adage is that you don't own your material things, they own you. I would say that it is now the storage companies that own you. But, it's just business, and it can be argued if you don't like the price, then move. Fair enough. I will. read more

Their roof leaked into my unit. Everything was in standing water. They would not help me move my belongings or cover the cost of hiring someone to do it. I would NOT recommend SmartStop. read more
