It is so apparent that some important standards left when he did. It is still a fabulous facility that is very well equipped. Everything that I can point out as a negative can be traced back to staff not doing their jobs. I can remember back when Red had a courteous staff that kept everything picture perfect. Now when I go in, it pangs me to see dirty towels strewn about the facility, trash cans overflowing, garbage on the floor, etc. Unsupervised kids is another problem. Inattentive staff compounds that issue. Not long ago, I witnessed a kid jumping down from a second floor walking track so his friend could film it. It was in full view of the front desk, but their attention was on their phones. I tried to report this to another staff member who let me know that it wasn't his area to deal with. I would hope that they would get on the ball and bring the facility back to its glory. If you can't do it for the members who pay a premium price to go, at least do it to honor the man who brought one of the greatest gyms in the country to Lafayette.

I have sent feedback to BREC regarding the following issues and hope to hear back soon: -broken sections on the plastic rock steps on the larger playground equipment which pose risk for getting cut since the pieces are sharp -exposed rusted metal on the smaller playground area steps, the rubber coating is degraded on the side rails which is exactly where little hands would be grabbing as one tries to climb -no restroom facilities outside of business hours which are 4:30-8:00PM Aside from these issues which would only affect those of us with small children, this park is a pretty nice park with some great facilities and space. The gravel lot is pretty well maintained, there are ample trash bins located near picnic tables and playground. There are plenty of benches and a few picnic tables, 2 under the covered pavillion, 2 in the shade of the trees next to baseball field. The playground is a good size with everything one would want for kids to play on. There is a basketball court and a tennis court--both could use a pressure wash and while the basketball net appears fairly new and in good condition, the tennis net is sagging a bit (still totally fine to play on) and both are shaded quite a bit in the mornings which is great for our hotter temperature months. There is also an open field beyond the playground and tennis courts which is a fun area for a picnic or to let the kids run lose, they always keep the grass cut. All in all, this is a pretty good park and once the repairs/updates are done on the playground equipment, it would be a great park overall and we would utilize it more. I would really like to see restroom facilities added as well though.

Everyone that I've encountered at this location are so nice and helpful. Recently I came in for shoes but was immediately distracted by the pink Yeti limited edition display. Drool. I seriously need all the pink Yeti stuff, right?! A girl working in the front felt my pain and we debated selling organs and shit to get all the pretty things. After the bonding fest I got serious and found some great shoes and a spiffy new LSU tee which were both on sale. The clearance section is always fun to look through and the dressing rooms are clean and organized at any given moment. If you need Louisiana girl gear, go to Academy!

There is a brand new entrance to the zoo, which goes through the Greenwood Community Park. Also, several of the zoo exhibits have been upgraded, which was badly needed.

Did I mention you can rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board for the lake and they have bikes you can rent too?! I had been looking up kayak rentals and they were all 40 minutes or more away and cost double even with a groupon. Then I happened to find this place and felt like I'd hit the jackpot. Not only did we kayak but we also rode bikes and played around like big kids. It was an awesome experience. The staff on hand was helpful resourceful and fun. They coached us through boarding, un boarding, and maneuvering our kayak. They definitely made us feel welcomed and want to come back.
