I've now been coming here almost a decade (8 years I think?) I moved to the other side of the city and tried out a new, closer, dentist. He immediately spotted tons of tiny "cavities" he wanted to drill. I was skeptical since I haven't had any cavities in 15 years. I went back to Dr. Curalli for a second opinion and he noted the spots, but said they're still just demineralized and that essentially, he knows I take care of my teeth after this many years and thought they'd remineralize. He made notes on the chart to recheck. At the next check in 6 months, he rechecked and said they were ok now. He knows his patients well and is not overly aggressive in his treatment recs. I needed to have a filling replaced recently and was terrified. I don't have red hair but I do have the gene that causes resistance and have a lot of painful filling and mole removal stories to back that up. He listened, got a different anesthesia that works better on resistant patients, and told me to immediately stop him if anything was even slightly uncomfortable. I didn't feel the shot at all (I've flossed more painfully) and felt literally nothing for the drilling. Most comfortable "cavity" appointment of my life! Definitely worth the haul across town for this little dental phobe. read more

Dr Currali and his staff are kind, patient, gentle and caring. Dr. C is thorough and very detailed. I took my son to have a cap repaired and he didn't need any numbing agents, there was no bleeding and mild discomfort for just a moment through out the procedure. Dr. C is also conservative so you don't have to worry about unnecessary treatments. The office has a chill vibe and there's always street parking available. read more

My first visit to see Dr Curalli. I felt very welcomed and not rushed. He took the time to get to know me and what is important to me as a person as well as with my mouth and teeth. It has been a long time since I went to the dentist since my last experience was not a good one. He and his staff really gave me confidence in their competency. Also, timeliness. Billing piles frustration on top of an already awful experience. I do not normally mind dentist visits- I have never been sensitive to the cleaning or necessary steps, but for some reason the x-ray process here was atrocious. I have a large mouth and their equipment was still digging into the roof of my mouth painfully and constantly as they took at least twice the number of x-rays I normally expect. I have never really had x-rays hurt before so I don't know how this was so bad. It is what it is- I had moved on and forgotten about it. I was going to keep coming to this dentist just for the convenient location. THEN- turns out I didn't even need x-rays. Because my previous dentist had already done them within the last 12 months, my insurance would not pay for the x-rays. Smile Ballard COULD have requested the x-rays from my previous dentist, but didn't bother so I owe $120 for painful, unnecessary x-rays. Their office helpfully explained all this to me AFTER the fact and refused to do anything about it. What a disappointment. read more

I had an accident and needed emergency procedure, and was able to see Dr Curalli the next day and had the procedure on the follow day. Dr Curalli was patient and did an excellent job on repairing my teeth - it looks like nothing ever happened. read more

Quality of care is always great. I got a new dental hygienist because my old one moved on. He was amazing, gentle, took excellent care during the entire visit while educating me about the condition of my teeth and making product recommendations. There was no shame or blame. I have been seeing Dr. Curalli for more than 8 years and followed him to his Ballard location when he moved from First Hill. He always watches out for any developing problems so he can prevent them from getting worse. Just today, for example, when X-rays showed nothing wrong with a tooth that has been sensitive to cold, he took extra time to test three teeth with a tiny swab of cold. He was not able to determine which tooth was actually causing the sensations, but he referred me to an endodontist because hot/cold sensitivity is a sign of pulpitis, something that requires a root canal. I appreciate the fact that he took the extra time (I was already checking out when he came back to catch me before I left) to make sure I don't go another 6 months with untreated pulpitis. read more

Apparently, eating caramel chewy candy does not mesh well with composite fillings. I found this out the hard way a couple days ago when I wondered how rocks got in my caramel chews. The day after, what I was initially in denial of was perhaps true. Sensitivity to hot and cold beverages led me on a desperate yet inevitable search for my new dentist. After calling 3 offices and no one really responding to my pleas, I finally got through to Dr. Curalli's office. I had a late morning appointment to confirm my suspicions. The one piece of caramel I ate did in fact yank part of the fillings out of one of my upper left molars. Well, Dr. Curalli and his assistant, Brooke, were super awesome in returning my tooth back to its non-sensitive state. He explained why the application of the previous filling didn't hold up. He gave me the right amount of novacaine...I didn't feel a thing! And that right there sealed the deal. They offered me headphones to listen to music or something during the procedure, but I declined. I didn't want to have to associate any song with possible tooth pain if that was going to happen. But it didn't and everything went smoothly. Nice, clean office. Friendly staff. Hunt over. No more caramels. New dentist? Check! read more
