My previous dentist had told me that I wasn't doing a super great job with my teeth (I was drinking wayyy too much sugary coffee and not flossing) but when I left him he said that I had two-three cavities. Fast forward to a short while later and Dr. DeVeas is saying that I have 8-10 cavities that need to be filled right away. This seemed a bit odd to me and I questioned him and said that I might want to get a second opinion because of the difference between what he said and what my previous dentist was saying. The result of me mentioning I might want a second opinion was him kicking me out of the practice. I was completely shocked, and as such kept the letter from his office to this day. When I called the practice after receiving this letter, they then were stating that I was also constantly cancelling appointments (I cancelled two over my time with them, and I think within the timeframe where it didn't get a cancellation fee.) I have NEVER been kicked out of any practice in my life except for Dr. DeVeas. My parents also stopped seeing him and found a much better dentist back in Baltimore because of issues my mom had with him, and because of how he treated me. I have since moved out of state a few times and found many, much better, much more understanding dentists. I am not going to pretend I was perfect with my teeth, and over the next 5 years I had quite a few cavities filled, but only 2-4 were necessary immediately after I left Dr. DeVeas, the rest were described as watch and wait. I know different dentists have different thresholds for when to fill a cavity, but you have to remember that fillings don't last forever, and each tooth can only withstand so many fillings before it becomes a crown. I have learned that when you can trust your dentist, you listen better and learn to take better care of your teeth.

The procedure stations are bright, welcoming, and spotlessly clean, as is the reception area. The young assistant today worked hard to help ease my anxiety before my extraction and 2 fillings. It was obvious to me that she was trying hard to be fast as well as careful as she set up tools and equipment and chatted with me. Afterwards, Dr. Fishman had an adjustment to make in her routine that will save time and effort in the future. Before my retirement I had occasion to observe many "busy professionals" criticize assistants. I was so impressed how, in the most gentle, polite yet serious and non-intimidating manner Dr. Fishman accomplished this, that I felt compelled to mention it here. A boss who treats colleagues and staff well is the reason why everything in this dental practice is what it is. Bravo Brilliant Smiles of Maryland! Bravo Dr. Fishman! Reported to the Better Business Bureau for deceitful business practices. I went to this dentist…read moretwice. After a mix up with insurance the first time around, I handed the front desk worker my CareFirst insurance card. She said that it was fine and they accept that insurance. I get a bill later for over $565 for two cleanings and an X-ray. I called in and the front desk worker said that they do not fully accept CareFirst and I have to pay the rest. She denied ever telling me that they accepted it, but found no issue with scanning my card in and not telling me that I will have $565 to pay later. She said Dr. Bowersox would call me back two times but he never did. So, I sent in a check for what CareFirst sent me and wrote "paid in full" on the check. Dr. Bowersox cashed it and then continued to ask for the rest. I have reported them to the BBB for deceitful business practices because they will have no problem taking your insurance while neglecting to tell you that they do not actually accept it.
