Got a gift certificate from my cousin for a manicure + spa pedicure. But I had already had a full set done about a month ago from somewhere else so I went in asking if I could get a fill and the lady said yeah ok just pay the difference. Which was fine with me. I had John he did a great job and I absolutely love the shape. He also mentioned that he took off the parts that were lifting because if not water will get in a fungus will grow. I choose a champagne color which is later regretted because I didn't think about how transparent it would be as you can tell by the photos you can see my real nail under plus the dirt. When it was done they said I owed $8 something so I paid but I was confused because my gift certificate said "+ spa pedicure" but the "manicure + spa pedicure" is $32 and the fill was $40 hence the $8 I paid. I think it should be clear and the value should be put on the gift certificate because my other cousin who got the same gift said it happened to her too, but we got a paper saying the value of the gift certificate was $67. So I guess I must have meant $67 for the 2 gift certificates or something. But for future I think it would be better to have the value on the certificate just so in times like this it is more clear and the customer isn't confused. Gave it 3 stars but changing to 2 because A HAIR WAS PAINTED INTO MY NAIL!!! read more

I haven't been leaving reviews for a while, but I felt the need to write one today as I'm getting my nails done here because I absolutely love their service. I'm currently listening to the owners be absolutely patient & accommodating to the most privileged and rude young lady. She came in with a design in mind and they're trying to explain why they can't do it how she's requesting but are trying to meet her halfway. Instead of just leaving to find a place that can do exactly what she wants, she's basically demeaning their skills. Meanwhile, the nail techs are being patient and kind. They take the time to get to know you, which is a reason I come here. My nails also last a long time & they take their time while doing the service - quality versus quantity of customers. I just had to write this review because I hope that sassy customer somehow sees this and is satisfied with her "simple" purple/lavender powdered nails with butterflies that need to be within a certain price range & that she left in the one hour that she has to get it done since it took half an hour of her complaining before finally getting work done. If you want quality service done in a reasonable amount of time & to find a nail tech that makes you comfortable, this is it! read more

I'm gona rate this place four stars because I've honestly wanted to try this place out for a while now, but I couldn't find them! Until this past week I went to a yoga class on a Monday and finally saw their sign. They're tucked inside of where all the metered parking stalls are behind of Koa Pancake House. I paid $55 for a gel mani + regular pedi + gel nails take off. I had two ladies work on me. My pedi was awesome and fast and so was my mani. The only thing is I didn't understand that the damn gel manicure was going to be $30 lol, oh well. I liked my nails. I had to go short because I do a lot of mālama āina work and I only had long gel nails for a Vegas trip that I just came back for. Going to try this place out again. They have good customer service they have a lot of staff. Inside is spacious with air conditioning and they have a restroom. The parking is rough, bring quarters for the meters. I think Smiley Nails gets an extra star for efficiency and value. It's no fancy schmancy places and I don't know clean or sanitary it is. It's sort of like a mani/pedi factory in there. But my experience was just fine: nice foot massage in a hot soapy bath and a hand massage to go with the mani. Got the french and a little decoration on my toes. I did not have them cut any skin since I always worry about where those sharp objects have just been. If you just want the mani/pedi experience, it's totally fine. If you're looking for pampering and a relaxed, gentle environment, then this isn't for you. parking in the municipal lot with meters (bring quarters). Make an appointment ahead of time and if you call ahead you can even go in before the rush starts. And once it gets crowded, it's like a little buzzing factory in there. read more

When I booked my appointment I had no problems. Told them I needed 1 acrylic nail fixed and wanted to change my color. They booked me right away for the time I wanted.  I showed up next morning about 10 minutes early to pick out my color. They had me sit down right away after I picked my color and got right to work. They were super empty and everyone working there looked really bored. It ALL went down hill from here. To remove my broken nail he started just by shoving a thin tool between my natural nail and acrylic nail. I asked him if he was going to soak my nail first and his response was "oh I can but it will take too long" I just got my set a week ago and it became pretty painful as he pushed the tool between both nails. Eventually he got it off.  He went through the whole process using so much super glue he glued my nail to my skin and never fixed it. Finally he came to the acrylic and the amount of powder on his tool was ridiculous. He filed and shaped ALL by hand which actually really hurt cause he kept pulling the tool to far back and jamming it into my finger causing the nail to really jerk, as if I has just jammed my finger into something solid. I mentioned how thick it was after he finished and asked him if he could thin it out to match the others better. He then decided; to make it easier to thin out he started to shave the underside of my fingernail! (Now I have only gotten acrylics a handfull of times but I already knew this was a mistake) he barely shaped it with the power tool and left it twice as thick as all the other nails. All he did was thin the tip of my finger nail down. Which trashed the whole nail completely because now the natural curve is gone. It literally looks like a pointed talon that's about to fall off.  And at the end I thought maybe he could save it all with a great paint job. But he got impatient and globbed on thick coats of nail polish that ended up wrinkling even after 20 minutes under UV light. There is even particals and air bubbles left behind from the paint  brush itself. I Honestly could have done a better job with painting them at home. And I probably will end up taking this polish off in a couple days and reduing it myself.  In the end I'm happy I only wasted $20 here to realize how bad it is. I would have been very upset to get a whole new set done by them. I ended up paying $15 for two nail fixes and a color change.  Over all I will not be going back and I don't recommend this place for anything other then a cheap pedicure. read more

I used to love this place...$20 decent pedicures - (trim nails, remove calluses, massage, nail color) and they always had someone available anytime of the day. I haven't been here in awhile and boy have things changed! $22 basic pedicure - trim nails, mini massage, nail color $10 more - trim nails, remove calluses, scrub, massage, nail color $7 - nail color w/glitter (which they talk you into getting and don't really explain the "extra" charge My total was $40+ w/tax!! This used to be my "on the go", spur of the moment pedi spot, but I think it's time to start booking appointments at my regular spot and walk out satisfied and happy. Side note: I still had to go home and use my foot scrub to get rid of some calluses she missed and remove some polish where she painted my actual toes. I had heard good things about Smileys for a couple years so I finally dropped in for a pedicure. However, Smiley's has recently been sold to a new owner. The place was clean and brand new. Great start. I had a friendly man person give me a pedicure. He was ok but I doubt that he had any true knowledge or training as a pedicurist. Seemed like they just hired this guy off the street. He gouged my toes twice and I jerked with an ouch. He asked a couple of questions that were a bit too personal like... was I married and did I live alone. Huh ? Really. I decided to pay my bill in cash rather than a card. Gave him a decent tip but when I got home 3 of my toes were pink and hurting because he cut my nails way too short. Looking at my toe nails up close and slowly I could see how they were also cut unevenly front view and left to right. The nails on my right foot were longer than the left foot. Anyway, I will never go there again. Be careful if you do go..they have two men on staff. I know you will not want the one I had. read more

This place is a pedi factory - quick and cheap pedicures. If they aren't busy, you can usually get a simultaneous mani/pedi, which is awesome if you're short on time! The quality of the pedi really depends on which technician you get. But they all do an adequate job, and, for $20, you can't really complain too much. The salon is pretty spacious, with about a dozen pedi massage chairs. It's also well ventilated, which is a problem with many nail salons, so the salon doesn't really smell. read more

I'm not a yelper at all but anyone who goes here deserves a heads up. I walked in and went to pick out a color, and within 60 seconds got actually yelled at by 2 employees to hurry up & pick and to sit down. So much so, that the whole salon was staring at me. After some nervous laughter my friend and I sit for our 'manicures'. Assuming we wanted pedi's before even asking us why we were there, they filled the tubs and they were not happy when we said only manicures. We were in and out of there in like 20 minutes which is clearly shown by the shotty job done by one of the guys. Nails started falling off after 3 days LOL. I'm not picky with my nails unless after a week I've already lost several of them lol. I've had acrylics for 5 months and just get them touched up and this was the first problem I've had jumping from salon to salon. Didn't even paint my whole nail and smacked a ton of clear coat on in about 10 seconds. Overall they were way too bossy and just wanted us in & out for the money. I can't say anything about Smileys that hasn't already been said. Everyone (at least the ladies) knows that Smiley is the place to go for a cheap, quick, no frills pedicure. I'll make this as quick as my pedicure was: 1) Go early. Everything is clean so it lessens the chances of getting an infection. 2) Make an appointment. They take walk-ins, but why chance it. 3) Pedicure is $20.93 (after tax) 4) Anthony is the bomb. He knows how to put on your slippers without ruining the fresh paint. 5) After your pedi, walk over to Koko Head Cafe for the best dumplings and french toast on the island. read more

Haven't had a bad experience here in over 5 years! I don't go too often, but when I do have a chance, this is my favorite. All their nail technicians are veterans, even the guy (Anthony) gives a really great pedicure/foot massage!! They take walk-ins, but you can make appointments ahead of time, especially if you have a large party (ie bridal party). The sign says they open at 9am, but it seems like everybody knows you can show up at 8am and still get your nails done (or they all call ahead?). I try to get here early in the morning when all their basins and equipment are probably the cleanest. I haven't had any problems with hygiene from this place - you can see their sterilizing machine and equipment being put to use. They do use that razor tool to skin your heel/toes (which is illegal in California, btw) which I think is absolutely horrifying, so I just tell them about 2 or 3 times in a loud voice "NO RAZOR" and they nod their head and try to convince me that my feet would feel so much softer if they just cut all the dead skin away. I happen to like the extra padding that my callouses provide. This is not a quiet fufu waterfall spa type place. Sometimes it smells like incense, and it can get loud when all 12+ chairs are occupied. "It's a mani/pedi factory", as Traci H. stated. You get in, get your thing, and you get out. I was in a super rush the other day and I told them "just polish change (toes)" and since it was done so fast i told her "ok, fingers too please" and I was in and out of there in under 27 min...(and it was less than $13!). Recently, my mom and I came in here and each asked for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. As the ladies begin working on our nails, mine asks me: "Is that your mother over there?" "Yes." *thinking she is going to say we look like sisters, as people often do* "Tell her 5 dollar more, I cut cuticles. Ask if ok." "Ok." *pause* "Wait, it's 5 dollars more to get the cuticles done???" "Yeah." "Oh... ohhh-kayy...? Uhh, mom...." In the end, we "splurged" the extra $10, but that particular interaction still amuses and perplexes me, because: #1, do I really look so young and/or incapable that one assumes right off the bat that my MOM is paying for my mani/pedi? (...ok... she was... but I just got back home to Hawaii. We were having a mother/daughter outing... she was treating me, ok!!). #2, what kind of a nail salon charges you extra to do your cuticles?? Is this some new tactic at Smiley's designed to increase revenue, or one related to gel manicures exclusively or something? Sooo weird. But I guess since they're pretty cheap to begin with, it doesn't matter *that* much Also, I will give them credit that when one of my nails chipped less than a week later, I came back in and they re-did the individual nail at no charge. Ok, this is the quick spot to get a pedi, took the hubs this time for some happy feet time, and he was so happy to get his massage, it was an extra $10 for an extended massage, and he had that look that just begged "please?" I was getting a mani and pedi, so, why not?! We went on a Saturday shortly before lunch, and we were able to sit right down on those pedi chairs. I normally don't get my hands done, nail polish just doesn't last that long on my hands, but because it was a birthday weekend, I decided to get a glittered fade on my hands. It was slow enough that two nail techs worked on me at the same time, one on hands, one on feet. If you are expecting some fancy spa experience, go somewhere else. This place is $29 for a plain Mani/Pedi, and that is what you get. Great massage, clean up and trim/file the nails, and nail polish. They also do gels and acrylics, but I roll out on a budget, and appreciate the package deal. Some reviews were not so great for this place, but look, you get what you pay for, and if you are expecting your manicure to last, pay the extra money for the calgels. Look at your nails before you leave, make sure the edge of your nails are painted to your standards, and if you don't like something, tell them so. They will happily fix what ever needs fixing, and appreciate cash tips. read more

This used to be such a good place to go to. I haven't been here in a while since the last time I came the lady cut my cuticle and it bled. I want to say it's been more than 5 years since that incident, so I decided to give it another shot. Big mistake!!! I am leaving once again with a cut cuticle. When I kindly told the lady to be more gentle because she had cut the skin, she put some kind of green gel on the cut which made it burn even more. During my pedicure she seemed like she was just going through motions - she didn't even file my nails to shape them and during the massage she barely touched my leg, probably because she was out of lotion but continued to go through the motion of pumping her lotion bottle as if anything more would come out. Smiley nails is one of my favorite nail spots. Compared to the nail salons in California, Smiley definitely trumps them no doubt. Nail salons in Cali are so boring and basic compared to the ones in Hawaii, especially when you're judging them price wise. They offer a great variety of colors, designs and styles. That's what I loveee! I also love how everyone makes sure to keep the salon clean. There's always someone sweeping or putting away polish or folding towels. The lady who did my nails always does a great job. I've always thought of her as the one who pays close attention to detail and takes her time. She used to have long hair but now her hair is in a cute bob cut. (Sorry idk your name!) But thank you! I got a basic manicure for $12.57! Love the pedi, hate the mani. I had an event and called some places near me to see how long it took for the mani-pedi. Smiley Nails told me 45 minutes, which was quicker than the 1 hour 15 minutes I was getting quoted every where else, so off to Smiley Nails it is. They were able to get it done in 45 minutes because they had two different ladies work on me at the same time. But because of that, my mani had 2 fingers slightly crooked and it started to chip 2 days later. I didn't notice the crooked nails until I was getting dressed. But the pedi looked great and the lady working on me was really nice, bringing me a magazine and some tea. They now take debit cards but they add a $0.75 surcharge for using your debit card. read more

My tips for coming to Smiley Nails, have someone that can speak and understand Vietnamese go with you and if you receive a gift certificate for Smiley Nails, use them right away! My very first time getting mani and pedi done at Smiley Nails was going to be my last time. I had such a horrible experience I did not step foot back at Smiley Nails. I didn't want to waste my time writing about Smiley Nails but I feel I should share my experience. Some of the stuff that was said about me in Vietnamese, the technician doing my mani/pedi told the other worker, " This girl's foot is so gross, ugly & dirty" and when I had to go back the next day for them to fix a smeared nail, I heard them saying "the grouchy lady is back". I will never forget how rude they are. I shared this with my Aunt, who has a nail salon in Sacramento and she told me I should have said something back in Vietnamese. After this experience I don't ever want to go back to Smiley again,until recently, I had to go back due to a gift certificate.I received a gift certificate during Christmas for Smiley Nails. I tried to give it away but couldn't think of who could use it. It was sitting in my bag for months. I just decided to use the certificate and didn't want it to go to waste. I made an appointment and when I stepped foot in to Smiley's I had that bad memories pop back in my mind. Come to find out, I couldn't use the certificate, it since expired. First I spoke to the husband explaining to him that I received as a Christmas gift and didn't know it had expired by a few months. Then the husband goes back and forth asking the wife. The wife comes back to talk to me and she thinks the certificate is a fraud. I told her it is not a fraud, I told her to check her log because the certificate is paid for they already received the money for it. After all that, I heard the husband telling his wife to offer me some type of discount for mani/pedi, since they are not going to except the certificate. I just left, and Yes. Smiley Nails just pocketed the money they received for the gift certificates. I don't know how they receive Best of the Best Awards, That must be a an error. Best of the Best at Smileys, I think they have to recount the votes. A business that needs to work on customer service skills gets an award for Best of the Best, Oh My.! My opinion, they should pass a law where gift certificates should not expire too soon. The time frame for Smiley's certificate are only one year. I DO NOT recommend purchasing gift certificates for Smiley, they only care about the money, So Shady! Never again Smileys!! I am so glad, I've found a place that I truly love for my mani/pedi Thank you friend for the gift certificate, so thoughtful! Wonderful experience here! I received a gift certificate from my Aunt, who I believe frequents this place as well. She enjoys getting her pedicures so I trust her judgment on the places to go. I had a certificate for a pedicure and a manicure and two wonderful ladies waited on me. TAMMY did my manicure: cleaned, shaped, polished beautifully. Then there was TRANG who did my pedicure: cleaned, shaped, polished and she made such wonderful nail art on my two big toes. LOVE IT!! I really do like their massages as well. I remember this salon my mother goes to and they apparently slap the hell out of your feet lol not sure what the purpose of that is, but I'm glad this ladies did no such thing. (I would have though I was being punished for something lol) I would suggest if you'd like more strength added to your massage, ask Tammy She's got muscles that one, but in a good way. I know from past experiences that places do tend to rush you during busy hours or at least they are so overwhelmed they tend to make mistakes. I went on a weekday around 12 and they were not that busy, but still had a lot of customers, no waiting though. So, I will say that at this time at least, I had a wonderful experience. I never went during a rush hour so I can't say how they prepare during that time, but I do hope it's the same wonderful service as I had. Also, and I thank you guys for not pressuring me so much to get additional things done. I did go to other places before and boy did they try and TRY to make you get this, add that, that I felt sooo uncomfortable. Ask once please and that's it. Maybe a little bit upsale, but don't try and keep asking throughout my entire session, which of course SMILEY NAILS did not XD My only regret is not having enough tip money -_-' I'm soooo sorry. They charge for those flimsy foam slippers!! Yes, only $1 ,but in all my years of having pedicures I've never been charged an additional fee!. As far as the pedi and mani that was done, it's was fine. Nothing special. It felt rushed, a little less than 30min for both (not including drying time). Since my nails are short, most places spend a little extra time on the massage, not here, not today. It's hardly call it a "massage", it was more like a "rub". I asked the women doing my pedi to cut the sides of my big toe nails extra short since they tend to ingrow, but she said "next time! What the heck?! I usually go to Modern nails , just one street over on 11th. Today I went here because I was given a gift certificate.
