Rudely threw us out when store was closing. The employee (woman) was nasty and said "hello we close at 4", looks at her watch and says "and it's 4!" Lost a customer, good luck competing with the big box stores. read more

Mask Nazis with absolutely no concern for customer service. I don't mind being asked to put on a mask if it is the store policy, regardless of my personal view of them, but I don't expect a clerk with blue hair to be shouting at the top of her lungs across the shop. Further- after her message is received and complied with- we didn't hear a peep: no "can I help you find something? What can I help you with? I will go to Mendham plywood or Bernardsville hardware next time. read more

I'm very glad that this hardware store opened in Chester. Alas, the gentleman running the business are not well versed in customer service. While the ladies at the front desk are lovely, they do not stock enough of what I need to be of much use to me. Five or 6 times I have asked them for specific items, told them "I bought you out of ...., and I will need more next week", and yet they are slow to restock literally forcing me to go to Lowe's to buy what I need in the quantities I need. They also keep sending me coupons - literally, every week, but won't let me use them. Because I am set up as a business account, they send me maulers but I can't choose which discount I want - I get a flat 10%. Stop sending me coupons if I'm not allowed to use them. And, I use about $400 worth of lumbar each week. I ordered from them and they explained how much work it is for them to get the order they sell that I requested. When that lumbar arrived, it was warped, old, dented and damaged and some of it had to be scrapped. I'm not allowed to choose the pieces I want when I order it - it's a take it or leave it thing. So Ace Hardware Chester is literally forcing me to go back to Lowe's to buy what I want at the volume I need. That's pretty sad. read more

BEWARE!!! ACE return/sales policy that lost them this customer forever. Ace return is 30 days store credit less shipping etc fees. OK, fine. The purchased tool ($230) went on sale 7 days later at $50 less. Ace Chester NJ store manager refused to give me the $50 difference in price or do a return at old price and purchase at sale price. WARNING: ACE will not work with you on this ... which is something universally done by other stores: Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. My $50 lesson learned is : Do not buy from ACE in-store or online! Next time, my business will go to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. BEWARE!!! read more

I have shopped at Ace Hardware for a couple of years now without any issues. I've purchased many things from Benjamin Moore paints to furnace filters. I went in the other day to buy a grill. Bill, the gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and personable. He went above and beyond to help me with my decision. Sooo much easier to shop locally! read more

Don't know what some of the other comments are about, employees are consistently helpful and attentive. Great place to get the occasional item for a project and closer than driving up 206 to one of the big box stores. They also have a great selection of fasteners (screws, nuts, bolts, etc.). Stainless steel, galvanized, metric , SAE,whatever I need I can always find it here. read more

I purchased a power tool from ACE Hardware for Christmas. When we opened it was a faulty tool and would not turn on. We tried to get a replacement and ACE refuses to exchange faulty tools. They make you go through the manufacturer which takes over 1 month. The manager was one of the rudest people I've dealt with in customer service and snickered at every question I had. I also called ACE customer service and they were also very unhelpful and rude. The manager told us there was nothing he could do and that he was losing money off of us. He said that he already loses money through online orders and that it is now my problem to deal with because he does not want to pay to ship a new one from the warehouse in Colorado. Overall super unhelpful and clearly ACE does not know how to make loyal, recurring customers. read more

This place is terrific. If you look at the only other review you may not realize what a great convenience this store is. Ace is a hardware and housewares store, not a lumber yard. If you're buying thousands of dollars per month of lumber you should be going to a lumber yard that services commercial accounts. If you're a homeowner and you're looking for pipe and pipe fittings, washers, cleaning supplies, bug spray, or nuts and bolts, etc... this is the place. They have everything you need to maintain and update your home. Everything is well stocked and the gentlemen who work the aisles could not be more helpful and knowledgeable, and yes the cashiers are very friendly. Even my contractors love this place for the convenience of not having to go to a big box store. Every trip is quick in and out. Please support your neighborhood stores or there won't be any left. read more

I my daughter recently picked up some thing I was only able to get at Smith's. Commented how lovely the people there are and without even knowing me was so accommodating in saving some thing I needed badly. Daughter is a teacher inRoxbury and commented how delightful her whole experience was.. slightly longer than going to Home Depot but will make the effort to support a more local economy. Thanks folks read more

Great customer Service. I had to get a small bolt to fit my Moen faucet handle. I ran in 5 minutes before store closing, and the floor associate who helped me find this 50 cent part was friendly, helpful and successful! [it would have taken me thirty minutes to find the part, considering the huge supply of nuts/bolts/screws etc that were on the shelves] Terrific service, great selection and very fair prices. I could not ask for more in a neighborhood hardware store. They are an asset to the community! Thanks, Ace! read more

I literally went to this Ace because I heard they had Lysol. So I ran over to get my one can. Upon checkout, the young guy, removed his mask to pick his teeth then put his mask on and checked me out. I should have said something but ran out as fast as I could to wipe my hands and product down. Totally digesting and beyond belief given we're in a pandemic. Buyers beware. read more

I've tried them several times but I'm finally giving up. This store has some of the worst employees I have ever encountered at any retail store! 1/3 of them are completely useless. Clueless and could care less about helping you. A complete waste of time. The other third are outright rude. Especially the older guys. Not only do they make you jump through hoops to try to explain what you're looking for; it's almost like they are enjoying the fact that they know more than you do about a particular hardware item and are trying to make you feel stupid. The other third of the employees are fairly nice people and are usually women. The trouble is when you go in there the chances are you're either going to get a young dunce or a rude old bastard. I will never use this ACE store again. Lowe's in Flanders or Bernardsville Hardware are better options. read more

This store is so clean and organized I couldn't believe it. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not the kind of person that does reviews. But in a time when all the big box stores are taking over its nice to see a home town business do well . Ps thanks for making a key for me I will definitely be shopping with you again. TOM read more
