A man followed me through the store long enough to see I was filling heavy water jugs. He then followed me out so as to get close enough to help me load them into my car as he pushed his Tamales on me. When I asked him where the food came from, how long it had been out or if he had a license to sell he could only speak spanish. Interesting Americans can't do that without Licenses due to health concerns. I refused to risk my health eating something not approved , but stayed and watched him as he targeted the elderly who are slow and people with children. I went inside and reported to management who didn't do anything about this stalker. Smith's used to be my go-to grocery store before I moved across town. When I was a single mom, I'd go shopping every Sunday with my girls. The employees were always so nice. Sometimes they'd give my kids stickers or candy when we were checking out. One time my youngest was screaming and throwing a fit and one of the employees offered to help me. She saved my cart full of groceries while I took my youngest outside to calm down. I loved the atmosphere and the employees...and I could always find what I needed. Also, the Smith's coupons and fuel points helped me out tremendously. Now I live across town and only stop by the smith's once in a blue moon. They have done some major remodeling and I really like it. They've swapped the floral area and Starbucks and it seems a lot more open now. Every time I stop by here, I can still find everything I need and more. The produce is really fresh and I love all the options. This pharmacy is great, the techs and pharmacists are awesome. Great experience. But, they are a busy location and pharmacy (the industry) has changed in the last few years making it so techs and pharmacists are overworked with less help and more work with vaccines (techs now can get certification, but that means they are away from other duties). Retail pharmacists have been overworked for decades. Even with filling machines and the amount of employees they have, they are STILL working when they should be taking a break. They are simply overworked and all these reviews show it. If Kroger invested in their employees, this would be one of the best pharmacies to go to. They could utilize what they have. It is simply corporate cannibalism of their own pharmacy after they ate up local, small pharmacies that could have taken the excess in vaccines and other dispersants of medications on back order for unknown timelines. read more

I bought gas at Layton Smith's last night. I had a "cents off" coupon from spending money at Smiths. I needed gas, and my wife needed to stay and shop at Smiths, so we used it to fill both cars. I also had a 5-gallon gas can I needed to fill up. Long story short, I used my 35 gallon allowance, and the gas attendant laughed at me as I was filling my car. It ticked me off, especially since Smiths has the highest priced gas in Layton, and Walmart gas is 30 - 40 cents cheaper. So, I kept thinking to myself, why am I doing this. I should just go to Walmart when I passing by, saving me a trip to drive to Smiths just to get gas. So, I called the Smith's store manager the next morning and told him how I had been mocked by the gas attendant. All he said was, "ok". That was his total response to this situation. I'm not shopping at Smiths again. It's Costco and Winco all the way for me. read more

I've been a very loyal customer of this Smith's for 4-1/2 years. 1 or 2 employees might acknowledge me here and there, but never the managers nor the senior employees. After over 4 years in self check-out and being carded by her for beer many times (and times not being carded by her) she decided to treat me as a stranger and not let me buy beer without an I.D., this time. At least 2 other employees know me and saw me being given a hard time, but did not stand up to acknowledge me as the 41 year old regular they know. (update: the older ladies know who I am. Bottom line is that they continue to ask for my I.D. just to give me a difficult time. One said it in a round-about-way. So, I started going to Fresh Market and WOW what a positive difference. Employees there care. They acknowledged me and asked if I was finding everything okay. I have found it to be a much more welcoming atmosphere and I'm pretty sure, better prices. Never had an issue with freshness. Most employees, seem happy to be there though some could use a smile :). I actually am a fan of the Kroger brand foods. My biggest complaint is I went to the bakery a few days ago, its open until 7pm. I know that the bakery clerk is required to be there til 7. I went in just after 6: 30 to place an order and no one was working in the bakery. According to a deli employee, she had "nothing" to do so she left. Not cool. HORRIBLE BAGGERS Friendly store, Great sushi, bakery and all around store. The staff is freindly and helpful. They lost a star because they have no clue how to bag groceries. Last time they put my cigarettes on the bottom of the bag and threw 10 energy drinks on top, effectively smashing the boxes. The time before they put our eggs and bread on the bottom of the cart and piled everything on top. Frozen stuff and meats are thrown in with boxed and can stuff. They never double bag. I love this store. It is the only grocery I shop at in Layton, but we are tired of having our groceries damaged and ruined at checkout, sigh, so we are going to start shopping elsewhere. This Smith is always busy which is great because it provides for fresher produce. Employees are really nice too unlike the ones close to my house in Slc. It's also walking distance from my boyfriends house so I shop here a lot when we decide to cook our own dinner. Do yourself a favor and skip the self check-out. Customers that do self check-out unfortunately do not know how to do it efficiently. All in all, it could use a bit of improvement but nothing worth addressing. read more

As a loyal customer for three decades, one would think that a slip and fall incedent would matter for the stores moral and business, unlike it is doing to this correct point in time!! Negligence, not knowing what an employee ( accidentally) has placed in an area where someone can/did slip on an orange peel in the middle of a puddle could cause such harm!! And they will not do anything about it.... Suppose , it was a child that slipped and fell, or an elderly person? They do not care!! Michelle Lowery from corporate has not been very understanding, nor helpful in my situation. Sure told me a month ago, she would "investigate" and get back to me. And She has. But never has told me once what was going to happen next ..... It was not my intention to report anything ..There are rules and logic that apply when reporting a slip and fall accident.. They, as in Smith's Corporation, other than the rude Corp..employee .... i will keep this going until I find Justice! To some it may not seem much.. But in the incident I had, I slipped in a puddle of water, with an orange peel right in the middle of the puddle! My head slammed on the ground, in which I still have constant migraines, my left ankle was sprained, as soon as I slipped my ankle was swollen.. I incurred bruising, and my hip was injured.. Just not fair, whatsoever.. I didn't even want to complain or file a complaint. But an employee that saw everything encouraged me to ..I am not a human that is out for a freebie, nor money... I would just like an apology... The managers, and Michelle Lowery from Corporate just do not have time for Customers that are injured, by pure neglegiant Employees that leave a puddle of water with an orange slice to fall and be injured!! I have told many not to shop at your store anymore!! This could happen to anyone, but with humility and plain common sense this matter would of been taken care of. A simple apology would of been nice... Now I suffer with migraines, a sprained hip, and the worry of not being able to feel comfortable enough to shop at the store any longer!! Impressed with the friendly staff! When I went to use an online coupon, the product I wanted was not in stock. I mentioned this to an employee who asked if I had found what I was looking for and she offered to substitute a similar item. It's hard to find that kind of flexibility in larger stores these days! The selection is quite good and the store is clean and reasonably organised. I'd like to knock off half a star for occasionally setting up outdoor displays which block the limited bicycle parking, but it's not enough of an issue to merit a full star deduction. I do cycle from Kaysville, past the supermarkets there, in order to shop here, so it would be nice if they gave a little more consideration to their cycling customers. read more

This review is for the pharmacy and NOT the actual store employees. I went to pick up prescriptions on Saturday and two of the prescriptions were too much for me to purchase on a monthly basis so I told them I did NOT want them. The following Monday I spent the entire day in the er with pneumonia and sent my husband in to pickup my prescriptions we dropped off, and when he got there they re sold to him what i told them I did not want. Now they refuse to refund the money. SO it didnt matter that I said I did NOT want the prescription, they resold it anyway. They also asked me why I wasn't yelling at my husband for their mistake. I think this was extremely unprofessional and very poor customer service. I spend a LOT of money there monthly and will take my prescriptions elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this pharmacy to anyone. They also dont use bags when they send out their prescriptions at the drive through and have lost my drivers license before because of it. Saturday i needed two separate deliveries through their drive through to get all of what i needed and they forgot about me after the first prescriptions were sent out. THey then asked me 15 minutes later what I was waiting for? Like I said, very unprofessional and there is enough competition out there that they should be at least trying for some level of customer service. Very disappointed. read more

Smith's is at least a four star establishment but for one preventable sanitary issue - they do not have a "Service Animals ONLY" sign at the entrance. I see people's pet dogs in there every once in a while. I am not a clean freak but I disapprove of some dog's filthy you-know-what touching the inside of any shopping cart. read more
