Randy Nilson, the shop owner & artist, did my tattoo. He's a very skilled dude, and he got my vision for my tattoo! He knew what I was looking for after a short, but thorough consultation (I had brought a printout of a basis for what I wanted my tattoo to look like for him to hold onto), and so my hubby & I made an appointment. We didn't have to wait long at all, only about 30 minutes or so, before he was finished with his client prior to me, and then cleaned & set up for my tattoo appt right in front of me. Very clean, very professional. He showed me his drawing, and added roses to my outline as I asked. He sat with me at his drawing table, and was very precise with figuring out where the roses should go. He took his time to make sure it was perfect, scanned it to make an outline to put on my skin, and he had me lay down to get started. This was my first "big" tattoo, and I was a tiny bit nervous. (I had a badly done tattoo when I was 18, and a one color tiny tattoo on my foot, already.) So, Randy is very kind, and very gentle, he made sure not to wipe too hard, or be heavy handed. Very, very gentle. (Not something you'd expect after watching a show about tattooing, because so many people aren't gentle at all.) Randy is easy to talk to, & he's really great at keeping conversation flowing. We talked about so many things, over the course of about 3.5 hours, that I felt like I made a genuine friend here. I got a bat holding a purple heart, surrounded by 3 black & light blue roses on my right inner forearm. I honestly expected it to hurt a lot more than it did for such a detailed tattoo. I got my first tattoo here a few months after my 18th birthday. When I first arrived at the shop I was warmly greeted. A nice gentleman asked if I had any questions and said to look at each of the artists portfolio too see which one would fit my tattoo wants. I was going for a good artist for skulls and I happened to pick Justin (now owner), we scheduled an appointment and put down a down payment. Side tangent.... When I first met Justin that day I knew I would like him instantly, he is personable and professional, intelligent and genuinely kind... Back to story... So a few weeks later I came in for my appointment, I had my partner come in with me because I was nervous. Justin was attentive to detail and sanitation as he prepared for the tattoo, he was cracking jokes and making me feel comfortable. When the time came for the needle to hit my skin he gave me plenty of notice ( for a first timer this helped so much) and began. The tattoo was easer than I had thought and he was impressed with my pain tolerance. He made sure to give me plenty of breaks and water. When the tattoo was finished I was able to look at it in the mirror and I must say I was more that pleased!! He took the idea I had and made it 110% better than I had even imagined! ( I love it when artists can really express themselves) I loved( still love) every detail, it was clean and the lines were perfect! You can tell he pours his heart into his work. He wrapped it up for me and told me some tips to keeping it clean and healthy. Needless to say I have gotten many more tattoos from him since then ( I am almost 21). Well, this is in regards to Robbie T. I just got a headache from reading your yelp comment. Have you ever heard of spell check? I couldn't believe all the spelling and grammar errors . My 3 year old son can write better. He actually translated it for me. Let me guess, you showed Randy a picture and said that what you wanted?First off Randy is a talented artist who come up with original ideas and concepts. He normally does not do the "pick it, and stick it crap". Wow, have you ever thought maybe your expectations were unreal? Probably not! Let me guess, you are the type of person who has alot of ink that does not mean anything or represent anything. You probably take everyone's else 's ideas and pawns them off as your own ideas. I bet Randy did not have any clue on what you really wanted. You stated he did outlines really thin. Whatever! Who would want a tattoo of a rock? I am glad you went to someone else, because you have no balls to tell him what you actually wanted. You just ran away and had someone else decipher your mess. What does it matter if Randy smokes or not? I would probably smoke more to if I had to do ink on you too. I will keep an eye out for you at my shop. We don't typically write reviews, mostly because our ability to use Facebook is pretty useless, but this one needs to be written. Being in our 50's, my sister and I decided it was time to reinvent ourselves, and that meant finally getting tattoos. So back in August 2016 we walked into Thor's based on the recommendation of a friend. When we went in, we explained how we had NO idea what to do, but we knew what we wanted. The entire process was explained and within fifteen minutes we had chosen an artist and made our appointments. Now we're each 6 tattoos in and there's no looking back. Every single artist at Thor's is amazing. We chose Arlen Miller, but we have seen the work of Justin, Jake, Drew and Mike and you simply cannot go wrong with any of these artists - they are nothing short of incredible. We've even seen them free-hand right onto the client's skin and come up with gorgeous designs. For us, the most intimidating part of getting our first tattoos was walking into a shop, but Thor's is open and bright - it's a tattoo shop for sure, but there was nothing intimidating or scary about it. They are all so friendly and helpful, and will answer any question you have. They even educated us about what makes a good design and what you should really avoid. We've gone from bringing in our own designs to proudly wearing original artwork. If you've never had a tattoo before, be warned - they're addictive. They'll make you feel empowered and beautiful and you won't stop at just one. I had an apt with RANDY on April 4. @ 12pm. He called me and asked me to come in @ 1pm ,because he needed more time to work on my drawing. I am doing a day of the dead lady tattoo. so I get there at one ,he shows me a half done picture on note book paper. it looked like a kid did it. I did try and have a consultation with him but his fishing trip was to important.so we looked at pictures on-line and showed him what I wanted . I also txt him pictures earlier in the week . he went back to the back room ,now its 3pm. he showed me the new drawing .it was not done still . we had a talk he said I was to picky . go to lunch he said at 4pm it will be done .I did lunch w/my friend . at 4pm I came back and waited to see it . now 5pm I get to see the picture ,it was fine . he had to do more to it then put it on transfer paper. so more waiting , him going out to smoke many times . finely hes ready to start IT'S 8PM , 7 HOURS I WAITED LIKE A DUMMY. He did the out line very thin lines ,now its healing the lines are NOT there. I did decide to go to someone else to finish my tattoo. he made me wait 8hrs to start it . . He also did some of my back tat one piece was a cover up. he was suppose to cover with rocks . Randy did a big blue blob on my lower back .I payed him to fix and now its blue rocks ,not what I wanted he just did what he wanted . Went to Thors last month for a belly button piercing, couldnt beat the 60$ price tag, jewelry included! Markus was the piercer. I have a tattoo that I have a little under 12 hours invested in, so no stranger to pain, but half way through my piercing he lost the clamp and had to manually push the jewelry through. Most excruciating 10 seconds of my life. Took my sister back on her 18th birthday to get her eyebrow done. She had made an appointment 3 days prior for a 12:oo pm appointment. Before we even walked in the door I noticed the sign on the door said the shop was "CLOSED", an employee sitting 2 feet from the door was more concerned with the status of his facebook to flip the sign over. After 10 minutes of waiting we asked the other workers where Markus was, they had no idea, but apparently "he was going to be there in a minute." Soon after almost all the employees vacated the shop to smoke or completely ignored us. 30 Minutes later, still no sign of Markus and not even a courtesy call we decided to leave. Ended up going to deep roots and paying 20$ more, but with alot more respect from workers. Will never go back to this store. The extremely LOW level of professionalism towards possible clients was astounding to me. Even with your absurdly low prices Im not suprised by the lack of clientelle having seen how you treat customers. Will NEVER reccomend this store to another person. read more

I already reviewed this shop and Randy once. I really feel that my tattoo touch - up experience demands another. First, let me reiterate that Randy is an exceptional artist. He is a true master of his craft. I went in expecting a touch - up here and there. That wasn't good enough in Randy 's opinion. He knew that I was moving from the area and wouldn't be able to come back if needed, so he took 3 hours to touch - up and perfect his work. I was in love with my tattoo before this session, but now, it is literally an "out of this world" tattoo. Randy is not only a true artist, but I really feel like in the 8 over all hours this tattoo took, he became my friend as well. I can't say enough great things about him. If you want a tattoo, Randy is DEFINITELY your guy! You simply can't go wrong with him. I wish I could give him more than 5 stars. He deserves 10! Thank you so much! read more

You could spend a long time looking for a good tattoo shop and never find one like this. I was lucky enough to be referred by a friend. Sometimes you encounter tattoo artists who want to give you their idea of what your peice should look like; not so here.The staff is friendly and incredibly gifted, and the young lady who did my tattoo, Erica, was patient and extensive, as well as excited while listening in great detail to everything I wanted done to the second portion of my back piece. She asked numerous questions, and even came up with some great ideas that I had not thought to put into the piece. So far I have only had the outline done, but it turned out gorgeous and far better than anything I had hoped for. I have been receiving compliments left and right. and am looking froward to going back in on the 23rd to get coloring. read more

Just had my first tattoo done by Randy last night. It is a portrait of my horse.I had been searching for a good portrait artist when a friend turned me on to his portfolio. I scheduled the appointment with him and sent him pictures. Randy let me know ahead of time how long it might take and gave me a rough estimate of cost. Once there I was impressed by how clean the shop was. When he started with the tattoo I was surprised by how little it hurt, I have a high pain tolerance, but I could tell that he had a good hand. The 3 hours flew by. I was blown away by the results! It was EXACTLY what I wanted! After taking few pictures Randy wrapped me up and discussed aftercare. He also let me know that he guarantees his work and will touch up for free. At 36 this is my first tattoo and I will be going back to Randy for more! read more

This shop is AWESOME!! The artists are super friendly and have a great dynamic. I love the "my work speaks for itself" thing they have going. The artist I have been seeing is Justin, we have done two sittings this month, and he does amazing work. I really like how he breaks things up into planned sections and forecasts what will need to do in the next few sessions. We are currently working on a Ghibli themed half sleeve that I had outlined by a previous artist in another state and he has made it 1000000% better his shading is on point his eye for slight shadow and tone differentials really separates him from my previous tattoo experiences. My wife and a couple friends have all gotten work here and whoever you see you'll definitely love the end result. read more

As a 30 year old man with 12 years of service, I am no stranger to tattoo shops. Thor's Hammer is an extremely professional establishment, with a staff that genuinely cares about producing the highest quality work. I was drawn to the shop by their their ability to create art or specifically the lack of flash tattoos; their examples are hand painted water colors, and artists portfolios. I am currently 10 hours into a half sleeve with Jake Wells; who besides doing incredible freehand black&grey, is patient, thorough, and just a great guy. Came in for my 18th birthday with a custom design I've been wanting for years. First impression was the clear windows, great lighting, and cleanliness. I chose Jake Wells because my design was Celtic in nature and his portfolio was impressive. Jake was professional and my piece turned out better than I had dreamed it up in my head. Jake answered my questions with competence and his station was sterile and safe. Rates are fair for the tremendous work that Jake, and the other artists here at Thor's turn out. If o could I would give them a million stars. I've never been to a cleaner tattoo shop. The guys who work there are so friendly and seriously just so nice. You can have just one big conversation and join in on it and they will just talk. Justin the owner does my tattoos and he's amazing. He did an awesome coverup and started my sleeve for me. I am new to the area and looking for a new artist to replace my last one. I went into this shop just to check it out ( I also went to two other places in the area) and see how I felt being in the environment. I never mentioned to the guy that I was in fact doing my own secret shopping. The gentelman who was there on the day I went in, was very funny and friendly.
