Had to smog a car for my nephew. They close at 4pm. Got to the establishment at 3:30pm and had 1 person ahead of me. Each test takes 15 mins is what they advertise. He wouldn't take the car. That to me shows no care about customer service. Normally establishments like to go over and beyond. Don't go here if you want to be taken care of because they won't take care of you. read more

Thanks for the response, but 1- I did call, your phone number is archived on my phone for that date, and that is the price I wrote down as it was quoted. 2- I see the coupon now on yelp, but it was not mentioned in the phone conversation. 3- My past smog station is in Berkeley and I wanted to support a more local business -- if the price was at least close to what they charge. 4- I am happy I again supported a business that charges a reasonable amount $40, took 10 minutes, and has online appointments (that they meet). Again, people, please post the year/model, cert. needed and total price paid in your reviews so that readers can make the best decisions based on full information. Smog cert. is usually a simple 10 minute procedure of plugging in an OBD reader and a quick view of engine and exhaust. Or go to a station that you are loyal to -- your choice. read more

I came here, the fourth spot I went to in one day. It was great. I was grateful for Steve Chao. There was a line of people and Steve handled us very professionally. And even though there was a wait, I didn't have to stress about this because I felt taken care of. Meaning that he checked in, assured me of my place in line, and took care of the cars. I am a white cis queer woman who wears a rainbow BLM hat. I went to this place twice in the last two months. Both times, the two different men-presenting technicians were very rude and dehumanizing. They didn't say hello back after I greeted them and pointed at the waiting room from the front desk far in the back. This morning, the tall man-presenting technician tried to open my door without consent, while I was still in the car. I had just arrived. Lucky him, he was wearing a Covid mask and I was still gathering my stuff and about to put my mask on. So I closed the door back right away and got out a few seconds later when I was ready. I said hello out loud and was trying to find him but he had already left and gone back to his far away corner office. He pointed towards the waiting room at me, refusing to take my paperwork and engage at all. I was shaken and very upset at the situation and felt unsafe and dehumanized while walking towards the waiting room. After taking a deep breath, I decided to leave before the smog check started. I seriously don't recommend going there if you're a woman, especially if you're butch queer. I don't know if this is homophobia, sexism or racism (BLM hat) but they are seriously unprofessional and intimidating. UPDATE: owner has replied below and as you can see in his tone and entrenchment, there is no attempt to acknowledge or understand any possibility of harm. The doubling down and disrespecting me on this online review should tell you all you need to know about this business' non commitment of being a safe and friendly environment. You can check my history if reviews, I am not someone who complains easily. I know what homophobia looks and feels like and I have witnessed it plenty of time in places that claim to be safe for LGBTQ+ folks. Having an LGBTQ+ owner is no substitute for basic human respect, which is what was lacking and continues to be lacking. The business owner is basically accusing me of lying about my experience. FYI: the shop was completely empty when I showed up this morning around 9:30am and this is the second time I have experienced this kind of treatment at this business by two different staff. read more

So FRUSTRATING!!! I waited an hour and fifteen minutes for them to open at 8:00 a.m. No answer on their business line. I finally got through at 9:05 a.m., the employee stated they were on their way ("five minutes away"). They stated that the employee called in sick and only now were aware he did not open at 8:00 a.m. I also described my car and stated that I was the first person there and had been waiting since 8:55. I told him others were waiting as well, and one car left. He (Charles Aubert) acknowledged me when he pulled in. However, in that moment as he was opening up the shop a car pulled in and parked close to the front door and proceeded to go inside for service. It was a white man (white representing) and Mr. Charles took him first. I was flabbergasted!!!! I decided to go and speak up and told Mr. Charles that we spoke and that he did not take me first. He then did speak to the man and had the man back out and took me first. 3.5 stars (rounded up) because Mr. Charles was friendly and rectified the situation. I also get it is challenging to be an opener (fill in last minute for a co-worker) but we have to do better when people are waiting and how to address our customers. And please, let's not let people bully us into dominating situations. Mr. Charles apologized for the wait and then ran off to address the then five cars waiting to be seen.......And, my car passed!!! read more

A new guy took it over in February. The guy is a super rude know -it -all who doesnt know shit about the smog business.or the camera tool they use when smogging vans. I brought my van there for 8 years.Not once was I ever asked to remove the interior engine cover Don't take my word for it. Any Yelp reviews starting after Feb 2024 should back me up (unless they've already fired him).But, I wont know because I'll never go back there. It was where I brought all 3 of our vehicles for the last 10 years. So I asked my mechanic who told me about his guy El Amigo smog on Giant road. A little more expensive $80 for a van but He's a really nice guy. He's the one who taught me about the Camera tool he uses for vans. The other guy that previously worked Smog Express used one too. This new guy just tried to use the engine cover issue to upsell me 125$ to remove it. I told him I'll just go somewhere else. On top of that, Smog express also lost all of their parking spots. Now they have two. Really uncomfortable for me there now read more

Our company and our friends have done business with this location for decades. It's obviously probably the best smog shop in the area. They're very efficient very friendly very honest. I will continue to have my car smoked at this location. It's a blessing to have a shop that you can always trust and wait is usually never more than 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour and there's even been times I drove in and got right in great shop. read more

The waiting room was clean with bottled water, sodas, coffee, comfortable chairs, and interestingg reading material. Quite impressive for a smog check place. They offer a yelp discount for checking in (I think just mentioning yelp is enough). Location is good, next door to Mississippi Catfish (closed , come Thursday through Sunday for them) and across the street from Tacos Tucan (get the quesataco, it is *really* good). But back to smog. I didn't get my regular postcard reminder with a coupon on it, but they remembered my car from last year and gave me the discount. I needed to get a smog for my car as part of a loan process, and was told on a by the loan officers on Friday - and I needed it by Monday. I was frantically searching, thinking I'd be SOL, but I came across Smog Express on Yelp with great reviews, so I decided to take a chance. And man, I'm so glad I did. I showed up on a Saturday afternoon fully expecting it to be swamped, and there were a few people there, but nothing crazy. When you walk in, there is a sign to take a seat and someone will come and greet you. I was sat for no more than 5 minutes when a gentleman came out and greeted me and asked what he could help me with. I told him I needed a smog, and he advised me there were a few people ahead of me, but he'd be with me soon. I was more than willing to wait considering I had just dropped in on a Saturday afternoon, but this gentleman is a speed demon. He was done with the three cars ahead of me within 25 minutes, and then he came and got my keys. I was blown away with his fast pace! He went to inspect my car for a max of 5-10 minutes before coming out and telling me we were all done. I have never had another smog check go faster or smoother than this, and with an incredibly kind man. The cost for my car would've been 79.99, but the gentleman gave me $20 because it was my first time there. Overall, incredible service, incredible speed, and fast work. Will definitely come back for any of my smog needs. read more

I had my 2002 Nissan Frontier smogged here and it fail due to faulty EGR. They told me to drive it around and the linger the better. I came back for the FREE retest and Passed with flying colors. First test failed. Technician said Catalyst reading incomplete. He asked if I replaced my battery and I said no. He said drive another 100 miles at 60mph. Three days later I returned. He just plugged in a cheap $20 OBD scanner and read the computer reading. Failed again and this time with another error EVAP incomplete. He blamed me and said you must have done something. I asked him how come he never use a tester in the tail pipe. He said not necessary. I said I don't trust that little sensor he was using. He reacted and said we will use the OBD machine inside and it will show the same result. Well so it did. Overall I feel Steven (tech) showed no care and was misleading with this 100 miles thing. It feels like as long as I paid the test. Looking for another Smog Test Service. read more
