This is a great place to get your car checked in a matter of minutes. Most people complain about the parking situation and other technicalities but that is just nitpicking considering most places are commercialized, have more smog machines and technicians, and charge probably twice as much as here. Plus they give you a 10 dollar coupon! I don't see why people complain..... Tony is great! I have seen how he keeps his composure with rude and horrid customers who try to bribe him in order to pass their vehicles or simply do not understand how a smog check works. He is a very honest worker and loves what he does. Keep in mind, It's a machine and computer that reads the vehicle vitals, not him. Also there is one of him and one machine; therefore, if it breaks down, don't take it to heart if it takes more time, it is understandable and if you don't like the wait then take your business somewhere else, thanks. For years I've used a smog check place in Marina Del Rey, and never had an issue. But I was in SM and in a hurry, so I tried this place. You have to wait sort of in the street when a car is already there, which is okay, but you have to move your car when someone wants to get in or out of the two auto bays. So I waited 5-10 minutes, then backed my car in, and was told it would be about 45 minutes (maybe longer due to having an older car?). After about 45 minutes, I was called over, I assumed to pay. Nope, the guy pointed to something on the screen and said his machine was broken. I was given a 10% off postcard, and told a few other places I could go with it (none were very near). I was disappointed I wasted an hour. I went back to my MDR smog place, which accomplished the smog check in just 20 minutes! The one thing I'll say is the SM location was $65 vs $80 at the MDR place for my older car (car age seems to affect the price). So some credit for a cheaper price. read more
