I used to really enjoy coming here with my wife: the food was really good and prepared excellently each time we came. Last time I came had to be some time around 2021, but I remember the brisket and homemade rolls paired extremely well with the service and staff. However, upon my most recent visit, I can safely say there's an astronomical difference: The menu called for deep fried pickle spears, yet we were served cold pickles that were sliced. Furthermore, the sandwich I ordered tasted as though it were microwaved, rather than prepared like the brisket they'd previously been famous for. The food overall was good. I definitely could taste the fact that the meats were smoked. The ham was delish and I'm not a ham- person. All smoky and sweet and heavenly. The potato salad was too sweet and not piquant enough. The okra was alright but should have been cooked more. The hush puppies were strangely shaped and rather boring. The Bologna was smoky and to-die for. It was thick cut and yummy. The Polish sausage was good too. The ribs, well, DON'T EAT THE RIBS. They are cherry and stringy and too hard. Two of us got a combo plate which included ribs and one person just got ribs and we all agreed they weren't all that. This spot is a real gem. The portions are hearty. The drinks are huge. (Non alcoholic) we started off with the calf fried - they were a good consistency and hot! Loved the temp. I ordered the 10.99 special of chopped sirloin, mash potatoes and gravy and green beans. I asked for no onions and the green beans had a little bit of an white onion garnish..not sure if this is a southern thing but I just pushed it aside. We came mid afternoon around 230 pm. Building exterior is a little suspect, but we didn't let that stop us. Our waitress was a nice high school girl. Drinks come out in a large mason jars, which we liked. Food selection was fairly broad. I settled on smoked brisket, and my kid got pulled pork. Food came out quickly. Brisket was good and moist,not dry or tough. I don't know that it was necessarily smoked, but maybe it started out being smoked and was finished in the oven. Beans were good. Potato salad was not chunky...kind of like a mashed potato salad. But it was good served cold. The dinner rolls were subpar....super disappointing. Flat, hard, not much flavor. Neither of us ate ours. It was like they were left out, a day old, or over baked. You get a little cobbler or desert with the meal. Pineapple cobbler was the cobbler of the day. It was good, but the portion is small. My son got a cookie. I'd probably try a sandwich the next time...if there is a next time. read more

Our experience was really good! We got the large combo bbq and split. We had 4 ribs, pulled pork and jalapeño cheese sausage. It came with 2 sides we had baked beans and potato salad. All was homemade! Peach cobbler to finish off! We are waddling out!! I loved the rustic, out west feel of the building and inside. This BBQ place along a lonely highway was packed for Saturday lunch. I ordered a chicken fried steak, fried okra, and a house salad. The Chicken Fried Steak was pan fried, (the way I like it), a bit too salty, and a cheap cut of beef. It's was stringy and a little hard to cut and chew. Over all not too bad but not the best I've had. The okra was just what you would expect. Deep Fried. I enjoyed it. The rolls were soft and store bought. My salad was a plain salad with one cherry tomato and half a boiled egg. Our waitress got slammed with a huge party so I didn't get the normal attention. But that's ok. She was working hard. This place looks good & smells good when you drive up but the food? Very disappointing. I ordered a cheesburger with fried jalapenos & an egg on a bed of lettuce plus fries. I asked that they did not add extra salt when cooking it. After the waitress checked to see if they had the jalapenos that were on the menu we put in our order. We waited while everone else was served & finally it came out. The hamburger was *really* salty,obviously salted during cooking, the "cheese" was a kraft plastic slice not real cheese, the egg was way over cooked so that it smelled burnt, not the lovely runny yolk experience that really makes a burger & the fries were limp & dark brown. My friend had ordered thre same thing to make it easier for them. Hers was just as bad. This meal cost $27 and change for two burgers & fries that were inedible. read more

They cook some of the best brisket anywhere. Their chopped beef sandwich is tops. Add a 1/2 order of SuzyQ's and a bowl of their complementary cobbler and this meal is fit for a king. I dropped by here one night while I was working nearby. They were open later than most businesses in rural areas, which was great for us. The interior is nice and looks almost new. The ladies working the front were really helpful and nice. They definitely made us feel like we had been loyal customers. I ordered 2 combination plates and a BBQ sandwhich. The portions were HUGE. I had a 3 meat combo (ribs, brisket, sausage). The sausage was OK, the ribs were good but the brisket was way over salted, I could only stand a few bites. For the price, you cant beat the portions. You wont get portions like that from other places. On the other hand, The quality of the BBQ was mediocre at best. If you are driving between Blackwell and Alva Oklahoma, or you've just paid a visit to the Twister Museum in Wakita, or you are going over to the Great Salt Plains for a weekend of camping, then you don't want to miss the "Smok Shak" right on Highway 64 just north of Cherokee. Most of the clientele at the Smok Shak are farmers from around the area and they come to the restaurant hungry after a hard days work and want some good home cooked American food - and lots of it. This is basic midwestern cooking at his best - try the chicken fried steak or the ribs and be sure and ask for a mason jar full of ice tea. This was good, but not great. It isn't the kind of place I would ever stop if I was by myself, it looked dirty and run down, but my husband had already been there so we got some to go. Ribs were excellent. Brisket was great. Hot links were great too... really liked the potato salad- it had hard boiled egg in it. Didn't love the beans at all, and the sauce was strange and actually seemed to take away from the work they did to get the smoke into the meat. Service is absolutely terrible took over an hour to get our appetizers but if you can sit there long enough to get your food it is okay just don't expect to get checked on by your waitress like ever you'll see her about twice at best. what can i say about the smok shak that hasn't already been said. i give it a 5 star rating. when me my family walk in, it's like we're coming to a place where we are treated like family. my family and i have eaten at this establishment for over 20years and deb and her staff have treated like their family. their food is impeccable ,from their famous fall off the bone ribs to their other succulent dishes off their menu, as well as their wednesday steak night, where their chef jabari and his cook staff make the most mouth watering steaks you can eat. the atmosphere is warm and friendly and more than worth the wait. i would recommend this 5 star restaurant to any and all who ask....where is there a great place to eat? read more
