I've been in Austin TX now for almost 3 years... In that time, I've gone to several different smoke shops. NEVER had anything but a mediocre experience, at best. Until a friend recommended to me Smoke ATX. Not only was the service above and beyond, but the glass work they provide is truly breathtaking! My fiance and I came in right before closing time (since we knew what we wanted we didn't think it would take long). I figured since it was so close to close it would impact the customer service. Nope! They were as helpful & friendly as if we came in mid day. They even stayed late while assisting us along our purchase. Been by a few times. Always solid recommendations no matter who is there. Ellen is really great! Solid selection of all accessories and for most items they carry the top brands and a cheaper, lesser quality but still good for the price, alternative. UNLIKE some well known smoke shops around town their prices are extremely reasonable. I rarely see it busy but if you are in the store and the staff is w another customer they will acknowledge you and trust me, whatever small wait for their full attention is worth it. read more

This staff sort of new what they were talking about but I'm disappointed in this location specifically I've been tricked a few times and even told the wrong thing about sales so I would buy more, the items they sell are much cheaper online as this place is very marked up, the other locations in Austin are great, but after I gave this location a second try and they changed their discount of 20% off to 10% off when I checked out and said sorry(make sure to check receipts at this location), that's a classic bait and switch really not cool... if you are going to support Smoke ATX I would go to any of the other locations as they are fantastic and help a lot! read more

What is truly amazing is that he and his staff can educate you on the products as if he crafted them in the back of the store! Though I live out of state now, I visit the store whenever I'm in town. They do not offer refunds or exchanges on e-cigarettes, so do your research before you go. I have to say I can not believe the amazing level of service this wonderful shop provides. Upon purchasing a glass storage item, I unfortunately broke it on my first use. Most shops will NEVER replace an item that left the store. Luckily Smoke ATX is an outlier. Within seconds of describing my problem I was offered a replacement immediately. Now not all glass can be so easily replaced as my open-ended jar was. It still makes me so proud and happy to shop at this local Austin shop and continue to be a lifelong customer. Hard to believe it's only been open 5 years. Joe, the general manager is very knowledgeable and helped me with this particular problem. Purchased a heating element for an e-nail. Before using it, I had noticed that the wires for the XLR plug were completely shorted out. Instead of immediately returning it, I had decided to cut the XLR connector off of the heating element. At that point, it was very apparent that this coil was either used, or defective from the factory. The wiring throughout the entire cable was completely melted together. PLUGGING THIS IN WOULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE. I called the shop back up, they stated that I would have to wait for a manager. In the mean time, I purchased another heating element from Smoking Depot, which had no quality issues whatsoever. After coming back to the store to attempt to return this. I was told that because it was cut that there is nothing that can be done except a straight exchange for another garbage coil. This was because the manager was very adamant that he cannot send something that was cut to his manufacturer. This is bullshit. Any reputable manufacturer of hardware would jump at the chance to investigate a catastrophic failure in their production line or QA. Especially if there was a significant safety concern. This either says that SmokeATX uses questionable suppliers, or the manager just couldn't be bothered. This is absolutely ridiculous, not only was this product absolutely 100% defective. But if anyone else had purchased this coil it likely would have caused major property damage. After pointing this out to the store manager I was told "no it wouldn't, because the wire broke". Obviously I couldn't fault him for his ignorance, but this is completely wrong. This coil could have, and absolutely would have started a fire. The main power lines were shorted into the thermocouple wires. If it did not pop a breaker, or light the wires themselves on fire. It likely would have lit the controller itself on fire. Fortunately for me, this was not a very expensive lesson to learn. This was a cheap price to pay to find out that SmokeATX refuses to stand behind their products, even when there are serious safety concerns associated with it is well worth it. I'll never be coming back here again, I hope the $75 was worth it. read more

Unlike most smoke shops, when you enter this one the staff greets you and asks if they can help. If you say no, they mind their own bidnezz and let you browse, and if you ask any type of question they are pretty knowledgable. I also asked a tought question once, and the cashier helping me was honest and said he didn't know (but could find out) instead of just trying to sell me something. They carry Three Kings shisha/hookah coals, which are the best. I haven't found other shops in Austin with three kings. [Other quick light coals have chemicals which don't burn off and flavor the smoke in a negative manner]. errr- yea... so I just like the fact that they don't make you feel like some "outsider" when you enter & have 3 King coals & have always been open whenever I needed some smoking supplies. read more

This place has some cool and unique glass from a few notable artists as well as a big collection from local artist. All pieces are marked up beyond what you can find online but its like that almost everywhere and the owner is cool enough to haggle with you on the prices. This place is Great! Stopped in to price compare a Vaporizer, and was totally blown away by the staff's knowledge of their merchandise. Very helpful, friendly, and funny- not to mention, the awesome vape I got there was $30.00 less than another smoke shop. Basically, this place sells good products at fair prices- they have to, there are two other smoke shops on the same street within a 1/2 mile of this place. As a bonus- right next to this place is a Batteries Plus. I actually wrote a bad review for a different location of this franchise and only tried this store because it was close to my house and I needed a specialty item quickly. They were amazing! They had what I needed, were friendly and courteous, extremely knowledgeable- the guy I talked to is probably only working retail because of where our Austin economy is right now. He can solve Ah (amp-hour) equations in his head! I use my vaporizer too much to solve those kind of physics problems. In conclusion, this little smokeshop on South Lamar is now my favorite smoke shop. Visiting this establishment will likely cause: a smile on your face, pep in your step, the munchies, and an inability to calculate physics problems in your head. read more

I love this shop, so glad I live close to it. We had limited edition part copper pipe that broke, we purchased it a few months ago from this store. We went back today to get another one, but they said the artist stopped making this kind. The guys on this store where very helpful, they took our info and researched for us to find it elsewhere. Turns out their Sam Marcos location had the last three! And they went out of their way to deliver it to the S Lamar Location, I just went back after they called me, super service, we replaced the pipe exactly as the first one at same price! First and foremost, I want to say that they sold me a product I needed that worked. Also, the staff was very nice and extremely helpful. One thing really rubbed me the wrong way though... The Auto Draw Oil Vaporizer I purchased from them, I found online. They sold it to me for $37.00. I found it on the site vapornation.com for $14.99 (Same brand: "Green World") I know we live in a world of supply and demand/convenience and I'm aware that I could have done the research myself before making the purchase... but jeez... That's quite the price gouge. The staff's friendliness gave me a false sense of security - because before finding the product for 50% cheaper online, I would have never imagined they overcharge that much. I never do this but I had I horrible experience at the South Lamar location. I have bought several products there(ie. a water pipe, glass pipes, and miscellaneous extras). It is often more expensive but it is convenient and the people are usually nice and helpful. I recently bought a Silo smoke battery there and it stopped working almost immediately. When I returned to the store, they were no help at all. They did not offer to fix the situation or offer any solutions. It was like I bought something on the side of the road. This review is for their ecig products. I'm rating them two stars because they are a huge rip off compared to ordering online. When me and my husband decided to start using e cigs my husband went here to get a kit. They charge $100 dollars for a new kit that comes with ONE set up. Usually you are suppose to get two in a new kit. My husband went back to this store to see if it was a simple mistake. It wasn't that's just how they sell them. Basically they are ripping people off. Simply put, they do not stand behind the products they sell. I bought a battery for my e-cig from them, which broke within a month of purchasing. I attempted to return it, and they told me they would not do an exchange. When I pointed out that it was less than a month old, the guy behind the counter accused me of dropping it and then lying to them, which I found particularly offensive. When I challenged him to show me any signs of wear and tear that would indicate I had damaged it, he was unable to do so, as there was none. He then explained that the company they buy the batteries from wouldn't do an exchange, which prompted me to ask if they stood behind the products they sell in-store. He hemmed and hawed. I asked again, and he finally allowed that they do stand behind what they sell, but his actions gave lie to his words. They finally made a less than generous and highly ironic offer to give me a discount if I purchased a new battery from them, but I of course pointed out that my last purchase from them was a piece of junk, so it would be foolish to give them further business. Which they most assuredly won't get. With so many places in town that actually believe that a customer shouldn't be forced to eat the cost of their defective merchandise, why shop here?
