I visited on a Wednesday afternoon around 5pm. I had a large party of about 10 people and despite not calling ahead, they were able to seat my entire party with no wait. We sat at an outdoor table beneath an awning. They have plenty of covered outdoor seating. There is also a great photo op bench featuring Mr. Redlegs (see photo)! The inside is spacious and had a large bar for drinks. I ordered the Smoke Justis Mule and it was delicious. The blackberry syrup and lime were sweet and refreshing. I also ordered the BBQ Fry Box. The pork was tender, the BBQ sauce was good and the onion rings on top were flaky and delicious. Parking in this area of Covington can be difficult. There is metered street parking adjacent to the restaurant or many nearby streets offer free 2 hour parking. read more

I ordered the brisket, pork and smoked sausage with greens and green beans. It comes with corn bread and a several barbecue sauces. All were fantastic. Ate there first night of Bling. Not our first time there but food is always good. We were seated outside and Amber was our server, she was great. She had a party of 15 along with three other tables of 2-4 patrons besides my wife and I. She treated us and the others like we were the only table she had. When this place first opened it was AMAZING! There was even an arcade downstairs. The service was bomb and the food and drinks came out fast. The last 3 times we have come the food is cold, the meat is mostly just fat, and the service is terrible. Expect a long wait and then to wait some more (NO LESS THAN AN HOUR) on food if your party is any more than 2. There's plenty of televisions downstairs and the upstairs as well, the upstairs is a bit more quiet if you have kids but again, who wants to bring kids when your wait is nearly 4 hours for 4 people? I have been here several times for lunch and it's always good. So far I've had the BBQ fry box which was good, the smoked wings which were great, the fried pickle spears which were great, and the smoked nachos and buffalo chicken flatbread were amazing. Those 2 things are my favorites from there so far. The service has always been good and fast, there has never been a wait, and the atmosphere is nice. They are a little bit pricier than I would like, but it's worth it once in a while. I will update this review with a picture the next time I go. read more

The cocktails are refreshing and made with a healthy amount of liquor. At first glance the size of the glass makes you second guest the $11 price, but you receive an experience with each one. The smoked wings are delicious. Let's be clear there is no sexy way to eat chicken wings, whether you pull the meat off the bones or dive in for a bite the wings are tender and juicy. The sweet and sour sauce is good but leans a little more to the spicy, which I tend to prefer. The atmosphere is casual and fun. This place is nicely located in a nice area on the Covington side. Got a lot of cute shops and restaurants around. The interior is very cool with a lot of TV screens around. The vibe is chill with high end finishes. They also have outdoor seating. I was here for a weekday dinner takeout. Got the smoke wings, they were big. I know they don't use fresh wings, because you can tell they were previously frozen. The smoke taste was there which made them pretty good. Nice place for a happy hour meetup. read more

Interesting how we ended up there. Had a fire at our hotel and were evacuated for an hour or so and we decided to find a place to eat while waiting for the fire department to clear our re-entry to the hotel; great choice. We remember another hotel guest highly recommended this place to us, telling us he went there regularly while in the area on business. Pretty place inside, though we decided to seat outside. We had the Street Tacos (3), which you get a choice of chicken, pork or brisket, or any combination of these. We enjoyed them and a very delicious wine we selected. Fantastic bar staff. Loved the women's bourbon event. Bourbon drinks were excellent. Old Fashioned was done perfectly. Snacked on smoked corn that was tasted, fries are some of the best in the city and the catfish was fries to perfection. Wanted to love the Mac and cheese but it was too salty. Perhaps they over salted the water when they boiled the pasta. The greens were good, not great. Needed to be cooked a bit longer and less stems. I will be back for their smoked meats. The food is amazing! Yesterday I called in an order for a pound of wings (all flats) for $17. When I got home and looked, I only had 7 wings. I was sure this wasn't even close to a pound & got out my scale to weigh the wings (I know it's laughable but I had to know). It came out 9 oz out of the 16 oz in a pound. I called the restaurant to explain that I only got a half pound and they said the wings are weighed before cooked, which is 7 wings. They should advertise that an order is for 7 wings and not a pound. I don't understand how wings lose a half pound cooked but they could do a better job of explaining in their description. 7 wings for 17$ is outrageous even in this inflated wing economy. I've been multiple times now and the food never disappoints my taste buds. read more

I guess I need to stop back and not get the ribs. Wanted to like it so much due to the great atmosphere in downtown Covington right by the suspension bridge. But the Thursday Rib special left me disappointed. Got all tendons and riblets and almost no meat. I will say several in our group did have the ribs as well, and most were large meaty bones so it was just a bad serving I had, I suppose. Sauces are very good. Liked the bourbon version better than the house, which was too hot for me. I look forward to trying it on brisket or pulled pork... Dry rub is spicy to me - not sure if it was an option, but emphasis on "dry" in my serving. Downstairs beer taps are cool, and lots of video games, bit not free like other places. I just loved the location of this place! Nestled in the heart of Covington, Smoke Justis is in an awesome older building. They have lounge/bar area for the late night parties and drinks, then a full dining sport bar area, and a basement with games. On a nice day you can even relax on the sidewalk patio. Came with my family on Saturday night and sat on the patio. Our server promptly came and took our drink order, we ordered cocktails and they came out about 10 mins later. They appeared to be very busy, so I didn't mind waiting on drinks! If you're doing *more* than casual drinking, I'd suggest doubling up so you have your next drink ready! I had an old fashioned made with Elijah Craig and a berry syrup. Truly fantastic. We ordered apps (some kind of bbq chicken mac and cheese) and it was AMAZING. Entrees came out about 30 mins later. Again, they were totally full and have a lot of seating so I felt this was a very reasonable timeframe for entrees. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap- it was good, but I sort of wish I'd stuck with a more "indulgent" option at a smoked meats joint. Still very happy with it! Fries were crispy and delicious. Manager was touching tables which was great to see. One thing I want to bring up: our server was SO patient with us. We had 3 small children who were, quite frankly being more annoying than I care to admit. Lol. She worked around them and made us feel so welcome! Stumbled upon this gem on the way to a wedding. We did the samples of the meats. In order of best is: brisket, pulled chicken, ribs, then pulled pork. The sides were amazing as well. A couple of years later and this place is still 5 stars. We tried the Sweet Chili Garlic sauce for the wing week special and yuuuum!!! One of the best sauces I've had. Sweet and spicy. My boyfriend who can't handle spice (literally one red paper flake and he's sweating) also thought it was tasty sauce (still spicy though). With that being said, the wings by themselves are so packed with flavor and they're huge!! I say they win best wings in the city for sure. They've also opened up a bourbon/whiskey bar on the other half which seems super neat. I had the opportunity to try Smoke Justis at the BourbonQ event and found it to be quite delicious. I had the smoked brisket that was served with a bourbon bbq sauce. I also had a side of coleslaw, cornbread, Saratoga chips and onion straws. All of it was so good! The brisket, which is smoked for 14 hours, was so tender, moist and flavorful. The coleslaw and cornbread were also quite tasty. The cornbread was soft and slightly sweet and the coleslaw was seasoned perfectly. I will definitely be back for another awesome bbq meal. read more
