long story short: great decor, but overcrowded & overly-strong drinks We went on Saturday night around 9:00 & were surprised it was so packed. It was standing room only & they continued to let people in, to the point where it was difficult to even get to the bar to order a drink. The bar itself was cool, with interesting decor & lots of seating (all of which was full). The bar tenders were very busy, so it was difficult to order. As for the drinks, they were both notably strong. The espresso martini was tasty, even with its pronounced vodka taste. The resident was okay but the alcohol was so strong that it drowned out most of the other flavors; I struggled to finish it. Everyone else enjoyed their drinks & I would be interested in going back to try more things on the menu. I probably wouldn't go in the evening again, as the crowd made it much less enjoyable; it might be a nice place to go for a happy hour before dinner though. read more

It amazed me how much the vibe of this place changed during the time I was there. Around 8 it was chill, romantic, and although the tables were filled, not very loud. By 10 or so, they were packed, happening, and high energy! The sound levels was pretty loud but you could still have a conversation no problem. The staff were very efficient and had great recommendations if you don't know what you want or want to swap out a liquor in a drink. Had a great conversation about Studio Ghibli and the graphic novel Uzumaki, if that tells you anything about the staff vibe Purple Rain - great balance of lavender to citrus. I tried this on a whim and absolutely loved it! Mr. Blue Sky - this also had a nice balance of tartness and sweetness. Not too much on either side and made with real blueberries I hear. Came here around 9pm on a Friday night and it was quite busy, as expected. We were able to grab some chairs in the corner fortunately. The vibe felt vintage with some cool old prescription pads lining the walls near the bathroom! The drinks were good, but quite expensive. I got a drink called the Night Cure which was bourbon based and delicious! It was refreshing and tart. My wife got the Purple Rain which had lavender gin and violet liquor. Also, very delicious! The service at the bar was fast and the drinks were quickly made. I give it 4 stars solely for the price, as the cocktails felt a little too expensive for what they were, though I suppose you are paying for the vibe as well. We met our party here and I ordered my favorite a Caipirinha which uses a specific liquor and was very impressed that the bartender didn't hesitate to start making it without directions. There are maybe 6 or 7 seating areas, which is not enough for the level of in and out this spot gets. But that's fine with me though. The service was good, the bartender was helpful. But actually the security had the best customer service. He laughed and joked with us and gave us the ins and outs as we stood at the door. The drinks were good, I had a the Night Cure (bourbon with citrus) .. wasn't bad at all. But a lot of the drinks looked worthy of trying. Overall I enjoyed the vibe. I would absolutely go back. Located on the corner of 13th and Republic, this establishment is almost more bar than space for patrons. The post-pandemic changes to outdoor seating has added some space. Their cocktails are handcrafted and some call for herbs, oils, fruit, and egg whites-in keeping with the apothecary theme. If you're wondering what could be even more trendy and delicious, they have a few new options: 1) The Duck Fat Boulevardier ft. a duck fat- washed bourbon 2) The "Green Carnation", an Oscar-Wilde-inspired drink (I mean, it IS June after all). 3) My favorite - the Spicy Paloma: tequila, grapefruit juice, chili. I'm a cheese lover, and when I saw the blue cheese infused cocktail on the menu, I knew I struck gold! I could sit and watch bartenders make drinks all day, it's truly an art form in my opinion! The bartender here knows his craft, and knows it well! I asked him if he could whip up a cocktail (not on the menu) utilizing the blue cheese, and he certainly came through! Cocktails and concerts pair well together so I stopped in at Sundry and Vice for a pre-event starter. This place is super close to Washington Park, Music Hall and all of the trendy places in OTR. The vibe is old school bar with a neighborhood following. It looked like people trying it for the first time and regulars chatting with the staff - super relaxing and inviting. The drink menus had some pretty cool options and through talking with people at the bar, found them to be tasty. I stuck with a classic and my wife went for peach seltzer. Prices were good. You can do so by describing a few traits you're looking for in the drink. The bartender I was helped by was working very hard while also talking to me which was impressive. In my opinion, this is an indication of a great bartender! I have to be honest. I don't often go "out" for drinks. I am in my late 40's and unless I am on vacation, I prefer to drink in the backyard. To quote my brother in law, "A cocktail is measured, not poured". I would go one step further and say a proper cocktails has proper ingredients. If it calls for lime juice, it best be fresh squeezed. I enjoy a gimlet. I do not enjoy making gimlets. It is messy, sticky and time consuming because you have to make the simple syrup and squeeze the lime. But you can't just go anywhere and get a proper gimlet. You can go to Sundry and Vice. Full disclosure, due to the high alcohol content of a gimlet, much of my visit is a little, shall we say, hazy. This place was on the smaller, more intimate, size. Dark, loud, growing increasingly crowded the later it got. Experienced bartenders and a cool vibe, a great place for well made cocktails. If I had water, I do not recall. I probably did not. Hence why I am having difficulty recalling. read more

I love, love, love this bar. It is a must on my list when friends come to visit. It looks like an old fashioned apothecary from the outside, with little potions and jars in the windows. Inside is small and intimate with a bar and just a few booths. The drink menu is quite large and the cocktails here are made with care and thought. You may wait a bit longer for a drink here, but it's guaranteed to be a quality cocktail and made very well. The bartenders here have always been wonderful and provided excellent service.
