La Brasa Roja is a go-to, but my friend wasn't in the mood to share and an entire chicken just for me was not happening. In a search for chicken dishes in the area, I came across Smoque and came to Yelp to get a sense of it. Only to discover my own review, from 14 years ago. I did not remember this place and certainly did not remember coming here, at all. But I figured my 4 star review from the Obama years must certainly be 5 stars for 2026, since restaurants are so inconsistent lately. I was right. The half chicken was smoked *perfectly.* It was fatty and crispy, but it was not doused in oil the way so many restaurants do these days. And even if you remove the skin from your chicken, the flesh itself was tender but firm and flavorful - even the breast. Plus, if you have leftovers, it reheats very well and kept its crispiness and moisture. This time they did have St Louis ribs, of which we bought a sampler. I'm not a pork person these days (I don't digest it well) but I had a bit and it was great. Too bad I forgot about this place relatively close to me. I would have purchased a lot of smoked chicken here over the years. But I look forward to making their chicken a staple of mine. The prices are super competitive, too, especially for the quality.

We had been craving some seriously good BBQ and kept hearing the same thing: You have to try…read moreWilma's. I'm glad we listened! First off, this place is enormous. It's the perfect spot for a large group, a fantasy football draft, game day, or any sports-watching event. The television screens are massive--there's virtually no chance of missing a play. Our server was fantastic. Friendly, relaxed, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. I also loved that she had a little robot assistant helping deliver food. It struck the perfect balance between technology and hospitality without losing the human touch. She guided us through both the menu and bar selections, and from there everything just kept getting better. The first thing we tried was the Soul Roll, and wow. Imagine all your favorite comfort foods wrapped inside an egg roll and fried to perfection. Brisket, mac and cheese, greens, and yams--all bundled together and served with a sweet yam syrup dipping sauce. It sounds outrageous because it is... in the best possible way. The ribs were tender and practically fell off the bone. The links brought just the right amount of spice. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and delicious. The greens and yams were flavorful, and the baked beans? Absolutely magical. As for the bar, it was a mixed experience. I ordered a lemon drop and was told they don't sugar the rim because it creates a mess on the floor. Personally, a lemon drop without a sugar rim feels a little incomplete. However, the bartender did earn some points back by serving it in a highball glass instead of one of their smaller martini glasses, explaining that we'd actually get more of the cocktail that way. Fair enough--I can appreciate that kind of honesty. If you're visiting Chicago and looking for great BBQ, put Wilma's on your list. Come hungry.

My party of four visited for Sunday brunch, and the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived. The escalator also wasn't working, which wasn't the best first impression. We ordered fried wings, rib tips, and drinks, but our food didn't come out together. For a table of four, it's disappointing when everyone isn't served at the same time. The biggest disappointment was the lemon drop martinis. After one sip, they were far too tart and overly citrusy for our taste. The glasses were still nearly full, so we politely asked if they could be remade or exchanged for a different cocktail. We were told that all alcohol sales are final. While I understand restaurants have policies, I was surprised there wasn't any willingness to accommodate us, especially since we had barely touched the drinks and simply wanted a different cocktail. As for the food, the fried wings lacked seasoning, and the rib tips were rubbery and didn't have much flavor. Being from Texas, I enjoy BBQ where the meat stands on its own, so I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side. Unfortunately, even with the sauce, the rib tips didn't have the quality or flavor I was expecting. The staff was polite, but the food quality, drink experience, and overall execution didn't live up to the reputation I was hoping for. I hope management takes this feedback as an opportunity to improve because the restaurant has potential.

In my day, I've had ribs that were made: Texas style, Thai flavored, Korean cooked, Tuscan, Kansas City, Memphis, St.Louis, Jamaican Jerk, Bourbon and Coffee rubbed, and this list doesn't stop here. Well, tonight I had my first rodeo with North Carolina ribs and man were they delicious. Not only delicious, but they stood out uniquely in very good way! Briny Swine Smokehouse just north of Lincoln Park here in Chicago are making these North Carolina ribs with expertise, experience and mastery. And, "WOW" were they delicious and..... good looking. On top of this "New Find" I (also) got my first taste of a very unusual yet extraordinary Cole slaw made with blue cheese and bacon that I really liked. My baked beans with brisket were also sensational. I was here early, by myself on a Tuesday night. There wasn't much going on, but there were posters everywhere giving a repertoire of events like live music, sports and games on TV, open mic nights. I could see by the size of this restaurant, that they must get a sizable crowd. I know, I'm coming back for a night of live Blues and Blue grass music. I will now consider Briny Swine Smokehouse my 2026 new best find in Chicago to hang out, eat great Q and kickback and watch the shows.

With me, I don't really gravitate towards it, but I'm willing to try anything once. Unfortunately when it came to the actual food itself, it was pretty disappointing. My husband's food was cold including the Mac n' Cheese. He didn't really enjoy it much. With my food which is the Loaded Fries, it was warm, but I thought it was ok. Coleslaw wasn't bad though. Now for pricing, considering most of the food was cold and my Loaded Fries only had a few fix-ins...if I'm being frank is a bit pricey. Which is surprising since we see a good amount of the chefs in the establishment making fresh batches of food. Overall, would we come back here? Maybe.

Welp, let me tell you...There are several bbq joints in the Chicagoland area, so what sets apart the good from the mediocre is having great customer service. I recently ordered from Lexington and had multiple aspects of my experience go south. Only to be told, "have grace" for THEIR mishaps. No attempt to make the customer "whole" or repair the damage. It was suggested by a friend that I should speak to the owner. However it was the owner who provided the poor customer service. I told all of my coworkers to go support this business and now I have to backtrack and tell them otherwise.
