I was so excited to find a restaurant dedicated to poutine in my hometown. This was a must stop during my short visit and it definitely did not disappoint. Between 5 of us we shared two wow size poutines and one regular size which still left us with left overs. I noticed a sign on the way in that their much requested perogy poutine was back on the menu. This was a must try and it was ah-mazing! We also had a traditional poutine and a prime beef deluxe poutine both of which were sure to satisfy. I would eat poutine every day of the week if I could. If you have never had poutine before I reccomend starting here. From the fresh cut potatoes to the authentic Quebec cheese curds and gravy this is one of those wacky canuck things that will leave you craving more, more, more! Just remember cash or debit only please.

    Canada. And poutine.

I came, I saw, I ate poutine. You want more? Nutritional facts: Poutine is probably about a thousand calories per square inch bite. Guess what though? I'm in Canada so SCREW YOU, CALORIES! To expound: Smoke's is a casual little joint that serves up that Canadia-land delicacy extraordinaire in about seventeen or so different variations. I opted for traditional, as, well, "when in Rome" and all that, but they're serving up all sorts of shiz on those fries. Smoked meats and pickled things and Mexcian-ish taco-y type toppings and chili and pulled pork. I'm no native so I can't speak to the authenticity of the traditional option I rocked out on and got busy with, but I can certain speak to its decadent, salty, cheesy delightfulness. Also, being the cheese expert I am - and I am! - I can testify to the curds' proper curd-y nature. I bet poutine is the just the thing when one finds themselves schnockered, late night, in Winnipeg, MB. When in Rome, friends.

Only in Canada could there be a restaurant dedicated to fries, cheese and gravy a la mode! Offering a variety of toppings and variations on the Canadian classic, Smokehouse Poutinerie is still a popular place in Winnipeg. I stuck true to the Traditional and received a heaping amount of fries, piled high in cheese curds and drenched in gravy. I heard my pants sigh. I agree with others that I think the gravy is lacking. I also wish the fries were a bit more crispy to compensate for all the gravy. But overall, its still a delicious overindulgence!

When in Rome...You eat poutine...and Smoke's is the mecca of Poutine...I bow down to his greatness. It's small and casual...with bags of potatoes stacked up in the room...Noticed a customer wrote "cowboy butt's drives me nuts" and "I love poo" on the chalkboard...sweet, I like this place already...Kind of overwhelmed at first when I saw there was 20 different kinds of poutine (and that's all they sell)...I chose Philly cheese steak, and they recommended the Bacon Cheeseburger poutine. Pulled up a stool and dug in...The philly cheese steak was just ok...the steak meat wasn't great and as a whole, kind of bland... However the Bacon Cheeseburger was the BEST POUTINE I EVER ATE...ground beef, crispy bacon and cheese sauce...on top of the fries, cheese curds, and gravy...Holy...It was like winning the lottery while having an orgasm. Just good recognizable rich flavors and combined into one goulash of epicness...It is the unhealthiest food you'll ever eat...and that's a compliment. If you really need crispy fries, go to New York Fries. But if you want variety and the best poutine combinations...this is the spot. I will be back for the Nacho Grande poutine.

I am a fan of poutine through and through, and unfortunately my opinion of Smoke's is nothing more than average. They definitely have an interesting offering, with a menu comprised of everything from a philly cheese-steak poutine, to a chicken fajita inspired mass of fries, salsa, and sour cream, among other things. I decided that the traditional poutine was going to be the way to go for my first visit, and I wasn't overly impressed. It was indeed the standard poutine of fries, cheese curds, and gravy; but for some reason didn't blow me away (perhaps based on my high expectations of a poutine-only joint). At the end of the day, we finished the entire thing, which unto itself should be an indication that it definitely wasn't BAD. My recommendation would be that if you decide to embark on your own poutine adventure at Smoke's, definitely try one of the specialty poutines that you can't get elsewhere. Happy gorging!

I had bacon bbq mac n cheese poutine and my husband has philly cheesesteak poutine and it was bountiful and fattening and glorious. I'm not sure what else one could possibly want from a poutinerie - there are three sizes, a myriad of fun, interesting and unique flavor profiles and friendly employees. The actual location is quite small, but there's plenty of spots outside to pop a squat and dig in. I probably should be thankful I'm not one of the folks that works near this place, as I'd not be able to resist and therefore would not be able to fit into any of my pants.

It's my favorite place in winnipeg. I traveled 4 hrs just to come here. Food its really flavorful. Its worth the price , they have different sizes. I ordered the philly chesse steak it was really good. Fries are fresh. Staff it's friendly and they help if its your first time. They only thing that i dont like the place it super hot inside i dont know if the have A/C but its really hot. The place its small. But its worth everything.

Visited Winnipeg and my nephew was raving about this place. I guess it's the only place that's popular in this city lol. I had no idea what poutine was all about when I first came in. I wanted to treat my family but they only accept debit cards or cash. Well, that's minus star. We ordered Montreal, nanchos and chili bacon poutines. My sister paid $37 for these 3 large size.. Expensive for just a hole in a wall restaurant IMO. The food? Nothing special. Tasted like those french fries with nacho cheese, chili beans and ham on top - aka poutine in Canada. It's good that I tried this place and now I know that when I'm in the area visiting again I'd pass and try something else.

Awesome place. All different types of poutine. Would like to try them all but I'm only here a few times a year for business. Parking sucks and a hard place to get to. But food is great and wonder if the poutine guy is real.

I've been dying to try this place ever since I saw their sign saying opening soon back in the winter. Well, they finally opened on May 31 after some delays. I am in the area a lot and every time I pass by, the line is constantly lined out the door! I've never seen Winnipeggers line up for food like this...I think it's pretty cool that everyone's all excited for this place. And I love that people are hanging out in Old Market Square. The line deterred me for the first few days but after an evening of drinks on a patio, we decided to get our poutine on! Plus, it was a super nice night to do such a silly thing. But I definitely recommend that you line up with a book, iPod or take someone who will amuse you for an hour because that's how long the wait was around 9 pm Friday. Well, more like 1 hour 10 mins from the time we walked up to the line and the time we left with our poutine. There were easily 50 people ahead of us as we were lined up straight out the door on the pavement, almost up to the grassy part of Old Market Square. It was a late 20s crowd and everyone was pretty easy going. They changed up the old Glass Onion as the counter and kitchen is in the back now and the front section has mostly bar style tables and 2 regular tables that can seat about 4 each. It's definitely catered to the take out crowd. Music was blasting a lot of rock when we were there. It's a simple menu of poutine ranging from traditional poutine with real Quebec cheese curds and gravy to beef peppercorn poutine to veggie deluxe poutine. So there is a poutine for anyone who is willing to indulge. They sell pic a pop too for all the old school kids out there! The sizes come in regular and large. I think regular is a pretty good size for an average appetite. The large is probably best to share depending on what kind of toppings you get. If you've read anything of mine, you probably know that I really enjoy a good poutine. So after waiting for an hour, I can say that the place lived up to the hype. The traditional ($5.49 reg) is ultra classic and pretty good. Was it the best I've had? Probably not, but it was very good. Fries were cooked right, the gravy had good flavour without being too salty and there were a surprising amount of cheese curds. And as a side note - cheese curds does not = mozzarella hence it does NOT melt! Cheese curds do not have the same consistency of other cheeses so while it will become more soft with heat, it won't act like mozzarella so don't expect that. It's more of a squeaky cheese if you've ever tried the Bothwell cheese curds. I was impressed that everything was more subtle in flavour. If you think the Burger King poutine is good....than this place probably isn't for you. The double pork ($7.99 reg) has chipotle pulled pork, double-smoked bacon and peppercorn gravy. I liked sampling this one but I could not eat a whole order of this. The chipotle pulled pork is quite delicious, well-seasoned and moist. The chili poutine ($6.49 reg) has chili of course (beef and beans) and cheese curds. This is my fav so far. The chili has a nice flavour with good spices in it. You can't go wrong with chili and cheese! Overall, I like this place and I think it'll still do well after all the hype dies down. Service was pretty fast once you place your order and the staff were pretty friendly. They have very late night hours on the weekends so it's a great place to grab congregate at after the bar closes. Note: it's cash or debit only!!!!

After fetching my luggage and rental car, I was ready for lunch at around 11 am. If anyone knows me, I tend to eat a later lunch no matter how early I am up. However, I had a long day ahead of me driving down to the Twin Cities, so I needed some nourishment. It was a no-brainer move for me to visit this Jollibee location: - It was the first one established in Canada - It has a drive-thru - I needed my Fillipino fast food fix - It's less than ten minutes away from the airport I love Jollibee. I am thrilled that the greater Toronto area (GTA) has locations. However, none of them have drive-thrus. All three Winnipeg Jollibee locations do. What is wrong with you, GTA?! I am also ecstatic that Jollibee chose Winnipeg for its first Canadian location. Winnipeg boasts the highest Filipino population per capita and has Canada's third-largest Filipino population. It truly deserved the nod. I could have dined in. I wanted to hit the drive-thru and did just that. I had the most helpful woman take my order. My order comprised these items: - Pineapple juice - Two burger steaks with steamed rice - A side of spaghetti - Peach mango tea I asked if I could do a side of spaghetti. I could. Yay! My order was over $20. I frankly don't remember the exact price, which is odd for me. I was borderline hangry. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my drink and bag of food fairly quickly. I thanked the woman and headed over to an available parking spot in a vast parking lot to chow down. I love the pineapple juice. It's sweet, but not disgusting gross. It's like a cheerful burst of happiness when you sip it. My go-to meal is the two burger steaks with steamed rice. It's the mushroom gravy that makes this meal awesome. I mixed the sauce with the steamed rice and enjoyed it with the burger steaks. It's brilliant comfort food that made me so happy. I love the spaghetti. You get small slices of hot dogs in a tangy-slightly sweet sauce. The noodles were perfectly done. I loved eating it from a cup. It's nice getting drive-thru spaghetti. Fazoli's is the other chain that I know of where you can get spaghetti at a drive-thru. I normally get two peach mango pies. I decided to get one because my order was large. It hit the spot. The exterior was crispy. The peach mango filling was excellent. I was so happy. I loved this location so much that I ate here before I headed to the airport to head home to Toronto. My order was similar, except that I wasn't hangry. I omitted the pineapple juice and spaghetti. My lunch was satisfying. I probably saved a bit having comfort food at Jollibee than dining at the airport. I love this location. The food was yummy. Staff were helpful and friendly. When I'm back in town, expect my paying a visit or more here. (79)
