Sitting outside, though exposed you to all sorts of uncontrollable experiences; like a friendly slightly inebriated albeit chatty man asking for some money for a beer (apparently he was a regular there as he also chatted with another patron who knew him), and then a couple of dogs who came by to visit (which the server was also familiar with)! I had lunch here yesterday. The burger was not what I ordered, but that was fixed quickly. The fries were as limp and soggy as noodles, cold, and completely inedible. It was as if they'd been dumped in water first. I never received the water I asked for at the beginning either. I have been going here for about eighteen months now. The first time was good, second time even better. The last three visits, however, have declined rapidly with yesterday being the worst. I will likely never return. In any case, it will be a long time! Also, $23 for a horrible burger, fries, and one beer. If you want great food, make it yourself! Smokey Joe's is a good bar, they have good music and good waitresses most of time. The hamburger I got the other day I ordered with extra pickles and no onions. When it came out there was no mustard or mayonnaise or anything on it and three pickle slices. She told me I could use the ketchup that was on the table and I asked if I could get some mayonnaise which she brought. The hamburger was overcooked and pretty nasty. I usually don't eat here but during the summer they have good bands and a lot of outside seating. I will be back, I just probably won't eat their anymore. read more

I was passing through Amarillo again so went to Route 66 to show my daughter. We were hungry so stopped here to eat. Had to say I was disappointed the name had nothing to do with BBQ to be honest. Service was amazing but the food was just ok. Typical bar food you find almost anywhere and really nothing to write home about. I'm from Texas, lived here all my life. When I trade within Texas, I very much like to receive a "Thank you" for my patronage of the establishment. I received none from the waitress or anybody else at this establishment upon my first visit here on Tuesday, 07/29/25. I don't go back to places that don't express their gratitude. It's not that they were busy, there were maybe 10 customers in the entire restaurant. It also took longer for me to get my ticket to pay for my meal. The food prices here are a bit higher than typical for the same food elsewhere, and are nothing above average to anywhere else you might go for the same in Amarillo. read more

This is a dope spot on 6th street with burgers and bbq(kinda). There's outdoor seating that provides a direct view of 6th street and on the weekends they have live bands that perform. The burgers are greasy and thick, like they should be! The onion rings are bomb too! If you like peach cobbler, the one here with ice cream is a winner! Service always caries depending on the time of day (a bit slower during the lunch hour) and the server, but never anything to complain about. Moreso just something to consider if you're in a rush. read more

When we arrived we did a walk through of the place and went to sit outside as the weather was great and we sat around the corner from the band as there were no other tables and this way we got to hear the tunes but not be super loud. Having seen reviews about waiting to be served we went to the bar to order a drink and ask to get menus, the bartender was attentive and prompt to make drinks and tell us menu would be out.....well the menus came out but apparently went elsewhere. Thankfully she swung outside a few min later and noticed and asked if we had ordered, told her we still didn't have menus so she was prompt to get them and take our order. But it was obvious to us that she was THE bartender for the whole place and she wasn't able to attend to us as we expected but after figuring out what was happening, we understood and that's the reason for the 4 star as the food, drinks and atmosphere were great! There was only one waitress we observed working outside, there was a large table with about 8 people, so I understand a delay but she was wondering around looking clueless and never attempted to see if we needed anything or make eye contact. We had fried pickles which were very thin slices which is my preference because you get the perfect amount of everything and they can stay crispy- bit of grease in bottom of basket could have been remedied by a better liner; but they were delish! I had a kicken chicken wrap I know I am difficult when I order and the bartender took my 'adjustments' of no pico and not to toss the chicken in sauce AND I wanted the chipotle ranch instead of the regular in stride joking along with me which I appreciate a lot! It was obviously freshly made and just like I asked for it, everything tasted good together and I would stop here again if we are passing through here again; maybe next time a bike trip! read more

Traveling with friends through the historic Rt. 66 district on a beautiful day. Since we were just walking by, we assumed it was a Texas BBQ joint, but rest assured it is not. Cool atmosphere with the outdoor seating. Our server, Bri, was very attentive. Food was mediocre at best. As long as you don't have high expectations for the food, it's a cool place. read more

The live music was the best part! The band was a group of older men (the name of the band was old geezers lol) and they were a great addition to the atmosphere of historic Route 66 "biker" bars. Visiting Amarillo for the first time, needed a place with a dog-friendly patio. Smokey Joe's was the first place that came up when we searched for one and they did not disappoint. Waitress was super friendly, attentive, and expedient. Bloody Marys were better than expected. Deep fried cheese curds and homemade potato chips with queso and brisket were terrific appetizers. I enjoyed my Southern fried catfish dinner with homemade fries and my liked her brisket sandwich. Highlight of the meal was probably the peach, cherry, and blackberry cobblers that our group was barely able to polish off for dessert. Couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Only suggestions would be some type of fly control on the patio, maybe fans moving air perhaps? And maybe a better choice of TV channel inside? read more

We came here since we were going through Amarillo, and were staying close. I'm unimpressed. First of all, the service is very slow. Took over an hour to get our food. I guess if you don't order anything but deep fried stuff, you don't get much. My salad I ordered was basically four pieces of lettuce, a bit of tomato, and some cold chicken. The place is supposed to be a biker hangout (which was actually a bonus for us), but even that is disappointing. Basic stereotypical biker stuff. The wait staff was busy on their phones most of the time as well. I'm glad we aren't locals, as I definitely wouldn't come back. Update: To add to my disappointment, I was double charged. I had a delicious chicken fried steak that came with mashed potatoes and green beans - which were fine, but one of my great joys in life has been dipping french fries into country gravy, so I felt a bit disappointed. I'm sure I could have insisted, but when I asked if I got a choice of sides on the phone, the lady told me the price and when it would be ready for pick-up. I suppose I could have insisted, but she seemed brusk and busy when taking my order, so I think they must have employees who are working for tips taking takeout orders (which often get tipped, but much less than 15-20% because much less service is provided). Having said that, the chicken friend steak, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole were all incredibly well made by a chef who loves every element. If dipping french fries into country gravy wasn't a core memory for me (growing up in West Texas, a country friend steak was my favorite meal as a kid), I'd not be complaining. The chef's clear skill and love shown in their cooking makes me eager to try this place again, but only if I can order at a time when I'm sure they aren't busy. I don't want to get rushed off the phone by a busy server or bartender again (though I'm not mad at them. I get it. My ~$2 tip for a takeout order isn't going to pay much of a server's rent and many people don't tip at all for takeout. I certainly won't if I get rushed off the phone again.
