Horrible!! Ordered takeout, no meat on the steak and cheese, the salad was wilted and dry, and I ordered VEGETARIAN potato skins, and the arrived with BACON!! Someone is clearly dropping the ball on this place and not paying attention and supervising what leaves this restaurant or just doesn't care!! No wonder why the parking lot is always empty... Some very good wings if you come here. There were 20+ flavors options to choose from, i got a buffalo hot and Lemmon pepper Parmesan. Wings were good sized,crispy, and juicy. Service was very good given only two waiters. The only down side was it's very "divey ", tables and floors were quite sticky. But excluding that the food was phenomenal. This was a pretty good place! Service was great, very nice waitress. There is a large seating area and pool tables on one side of the bar. The wings were great and the fries too (not pictured)! I tried the Honey BBQ and the flavor was great, the wings tasted fresh. I also really liked the ranch they used. The fries were thin and perfectly crispy. Would of gave 5 stars if management got back to me! This is only based on my experience. We were out of towners headed back home, looked this place up. It was definitely my kind of place. Sports on tv, bar, cheap & many choices on menu. Yes a Sunday at 1pm is busy, but waitress did her best. If I wasn't paying attention to my chicken quesdillas I would of ate the long hair in it!!!! Called the waitress over immediately, she did take it off the menu, but I asked if cook had a hair net on? A baseball cap is Irrelavant! Went on Facebook to message owner, NO RESPONSE. My very first time to Smoky O'Grady's and for sure my last. When you enter a business establishment you should be greeted. That did not happen: Strike One. If you have your business hours listed online until 1:00p you should not close early at 12:20p: Strike Two. When you have called last call and are no longer serving you should not ignore the new customer that comes in and keep walking past them. Many bartenders have big bars to clean and start early putting up stools, but are still serving. This place was big so I assumed I would get a smile and either a "What will you have?" or a "Sorry, hun, I already called last call". I just got walked pass and ignored. I will only hesitate on the last star for a rating, because it took a little while for the food to come out and the place wasn't all that busy at the time that we were there; and the BLT I ordered was rather flaccid and difficult to handle. I asked that the sandwich be toasted, and they decided to grill-toast it, and I have learned from experience that grill toasting a BLT means that it's not going to be as firm and therefore it's a little more difficult to handle. My wife ordered the "Taco Wrap," and she told me that it was "so full of meat that it was a lot of sandwich to eat," but that's not necessarily a negative. There were about a dozen people in the bar, and maybe two tables with parties of three or four, and the waitress herself told us that there are other times when it is "way worse" in terms of the number of people that are desiring service. She was the only one behind the bar, but the bar was clean and the bar area was clean. There was quite a selection of beers (although I asked for a Coors extra gold and they didn't have that). There were two different Irish beers at least, available (Which seems appropriate since it's an Irish bar and the permittee is "O'Reilly.") Anyway the onion rings were good and it was interesting to see sweet potato fries on the menu. read more

Good sized boneless chicken. Always try to support local businesses so was glad to see this place nearby. The flavors were good but not great. It lacked a bit of "pop" in the flavors that we had (honey BBQ and buffalo) but otherwise tasted fresh. The boneless chicken wings are BIG! I accidentally ordered 8 of them with a side of Cole slaw for dinner & I realized 3-4 would've been plenty. I ordered the Garlic Parmesan & Thai Chili flavors. I could only finish 1.5 of each plus 4-5 bites of Cole slaw & I was completely FULL. The flavors were both great. The Thai chili had a sweet hot flavor to it. The Garlic Parmesan was heavily dusted with most Parmesan. The side order of Cole slaw is a full pint and was fresh, creamy & delicious. I definitely want to try their Burgers based on the rave reviews here. The staff was friendly, pleasant, helpful & very efficient. The bartender took my phone order & as soon as I walked in, went over to the counter to bring them over to me with the receipt. The inside is a typical darkly lit bar with lots of high top tables, a pool table, neon signs, and I think a juke box. The music is audible but not too loud to drown out conversation. They have lots of flat screen TVs showing the latest sports teams playing. It's a bit of a time machine: very much an 80's style bar. But it clearly works based on the great reviews here. I also got garlic and blue cheese wings & horseradish sour cream wings, both were good but barely any sauce on them, when I go back I will get extra sauce on them & extra sauce on the side because you could barely taste any. But I took my leftovers to go and got extra sauce on the side to take home & the sauce was SO good on the leftovers I really wish I would have gotten extra while I was there! But everything was great! The food & drinks are cheap too. Cocktails are only 5-6$ & beer is like 3-4$ I will be back! And wings were I think 4.95$ for 6 wings. The bartender was super nice!! The only thing I noticed when I was there was that 3 people walked in, the server asked for there ID's, one of them wasn't 21, they said they were only there to get food & she said sorry we can't allow anyone under 21 in here. I totally understand that there's licenses like that BUT you need to advertise that! Hang it up on the door no one under 21 allowed, put it on your website, let people know before they take the drive to get there! It's confusing when you pull in you go to a parking lot out back, there is a door but I didn't know if I could go in it or if it was to the kitchen or something. There's no sign on the door, it didn't say the hours, "open", nothing at all. So I walked around the the front & once I was inside I saw people coming in from the back door. But there should definitely be something on the back door that lets us know you can come in the way. There was also a huge outdoor seating area that looked super cool for nice days!! The food is so delicious, the prices are good, servers are hilarious, and the atmosphere is so good literally I could go on and on about it. Love this place! Been coming here ever since I turned 21. Scott is fantastic and so are the bartenders. I've been to many crowded bars where it's difficult for the staff to move around with trays and drinks. I've never seen bartenders hustle like they do at Smokes. They usually only have 3 staff working the bar but you wouldn't know it. I rarely have to ask for a refill because they are on top of the game. I usually don't eat here but when I do I chow down on onion rings and Cajun fries. The chicken wings, tenders and popcorn chicken are great! I stopped by with my cousins in hopes to watch the Celtics playoff game and was greeted very aggressively asking for my ID. I handed it over and the waitress took it behind the bar for examination. I'm 27 and waited 10 minutes feeling very uncomfortable about the greeting and when the waitress came back she said didn't scan the IDs but still felt uncomfortable serving us because my ID was from Pennsylvania. I happily handed over other identification and explained to her that my family has a house in colchester and we were born in CT and she still refused to serve us. I've only been here for take out. I had a hankering for chicken rings and Hot Rods/New London was a hike so I decided to call for takeout one Saturday night. We ordered a 20 piece bone-in wings; half was done with a dry rub of garlic pepper parm and Thai chili. And, like a pp said, their fries are freshly cut and made there so we ordered an order for fries. The bar was packed; it was Saturday after all. It's full of locals both young and old. It's a dive with a large wraparound bar. On to the food, wings came in two separate boxes with sauces (ranch and blue cheese) and the carrots/celery sticks. I'm bummed the fries were soggy but it's understandable - it's fresh, unadulterated potatoes(no crispy batter) so it got soggy faster. It also has the russet appeal to them because the sugars in the potato gave it a brown coloring. I just tossed them in the toaster oven to crisp them and they were tasty again. The wings for both was still crispy and perfectly fried. No complaints. We'd probably do takeout again. read more

Last night we were looking for a fun place to eat, so we headed out with this place on our radar. When we pulled up, it didn't appear to be busy, but once inside, it was a different story. We made our way to a table in back & 1 of the 2 barmaid/waitresses appeared. We ordered drinks, which Jenna made perfectly, then wings for appetizers and finally dinner. We watched the whole operation while we ate, listened to great music and sipped our drinks. These two very capable ladies didn't miss a beat. It's a well run machine. Whoever the boss is lucked out! This review is ONLY for two things, the wings and the fries. The wings, which we always order extra crispy, are phenomenal. I only give them 4 stars because they can be a little inconsistent, but when they get them right (usually when less busy) they are the best wings I've ever had. My wife and I love to get 4 different styles and share. 20 wings and one order of fries is a perfect dive bar night out for us. My favorite styles are Jerk, Spicy Buffalo, Soy Wasabi and Horseradish Sour Cream. The fries are hand cut, which is getting rarer and rarer in most bars, and usually perfectly done. Beer selection is pretty darn good. They usually have at least two IPAs on tap. The place is pretty divy and the service is, well, variable.
