What a cute little brunch spot! They have flowers hanging from the ceiling. It's very trendy in a way. I thought the service was great. The waiter was dressed up.

Surprising gem in a strip mall location. The place is small but adorable, with fake flowers and candles hanging from the ceiling and displays on shelves, mismatched tablecloths, and more. The food was fantastic and super fresh. I had the vegetable hash with eggs over easy and it was delicious. Flavors meshed, every vegetable was cooked to perfection -- I initially worried about not ordering a meal with meat and I had no regrets. The kids got peach and blueberry cobbler pancakes, which really did taste like a summer fruit cobbler. I loved the local sourcing of ingredients and seasonal menu. Coffee was delicious, one of my kids had a green tea that he enjoyed, and the mimosas were tasty. Our only complaint was how long the food took to come. They had a really large party there at the time though so I think that was the issue. Service was attentive so seemed to be a kitchen capacity issue. We will definitely return!

Took myself out in a date and stopped here for a late breakfast. The vibe is beautiful. The place is cozy, service is impeccable, and food delicious. I wasn't sure what to get, so I got the waitress' favorite. It did not disappoint. The bacon is delicious and over all I enjoyed my experience. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Delicious meal last night at La Belle! My plate of sweet corn ravioli was not only beautiful but flavorful. The dining room is small and intimate and you feel like you are transported to another time listening to Louis Armstrong while you dine.

by Sarah Crisp Walking into La Belle Aurore was like walking into my Grandmother's kitchen - filled with an eclectic mix of furnishings, checkered tablecloths, handmade pottery jugs, ornate french mirrors and mismatched crockery. It had the feel of one of those wonderful "unexpected" places that only the locals know about. The folks behind La Belle Aurore buy as much as they can direct from local farms to reduce food miles and to keep dollars in the local economy, and their menu changes to reflect their vision and the bounty of the season. My husband decided on the Hunter's Plate: buttermilk pancakes, smoked bacon and eggs (both from Terra Firma Farm in Stonington), cheese, and a liberal dose of maple syrup (Old Orchard Farm in East Lyme). I opted for an open-faced sandwich of locally smoked salmon (Stonington Seafood Harvesters), a healthy helping of perfectly ripe avocado smeared on lovely nutty whole wheat toast and two eggs over easy. Our breakfast total came to a very reasonable $32 including tip. I can't wait to head back for a true farm-to-table dinner!

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars... Let me start with all the great things about it. The overall vibe and ambiance is very cute and cozy! The bread they offer at the beginning is delicious but could use some salt. The seared scallops were cooked perfectly and the entire dish was extremely flavorful! The burrata was also really good but it had a lot of oil unfortunately. All of the ingredients tasted super fresh though! The biggest reason why I deducted a star was due to the mussels and the service.... The mussels were the blandest I've probably ever had. I was shocked, given the quality of the other dishes. The sauce tasted like plain water. The bread the mussels came with were the only good thing about them. Then there was also the insanely slow service.... We sat and waited for a significant amount of time just to order and then also to receive the food, even though we were the only two people in the entire restaurant! All that being said though, the burrata and scallops were good enough to outweigh all these cons and I would definitely be back here again! But next time I won't be ordering the mussels and I'll make sure I have st least two hours to sit around waiting.

    Awesome vegetable hash. Best ever.

We chose the latter in a corner window right by the falls. The service was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, to helping us find our seat, to our server helping us with the menu, to the manager coming over and talking with us to make sure everything was ok. I liked how the server first checked to see if we had any time restraints along with food allergies, etc. Speaking of the food. We started with the clam chowder and scallops. The chowder was the best I've ever had. Plenty of meat and seasoned perfectly. The scallops were amazing. The manager later told us that the scallops were the only thing that had been on the menu since day one. They tried to rotate them off once and the people went nuts. We moved on to the duck and salmon. Both were delicious. Sides were perfect as well. I'd love to write about dessert, but unfortunately, we were stuffed. They looked good, but that will have to wait until next time.

My burger as I was afraid to order seafood as they really messed that up in the past was soggy and really foul tasting. Not sure how you can ever mess up a burger. The location overlooking the river is nice, so many more better places around.

Wow, were they right…read more From the warm greeting at the door to the beautiful decor, the experience started strong. We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. Don't wait for a special occasion -- just go.

My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Despite being attached to the Marriott, this restaurant currently feels completely disconnected from any standard of hospitality. The service was the primary issue. While our initial server was adequate, the older server who brought our food was unprofessional. She delivered the wrong meal a wilted Caesar salad and a "goopy" flounder instead of the salmon that had been ordered. She implied it was either our mistake or her colleague's fault. Worse, she took the incorrect dish back but left my short rib on the table. No one offered to keep my meal warm, and by the time my companion's food finally arrived, my dinner was cold.
