This place is... SOLID. Kody helped me on the sales floor and was super knowledgeable, friendly, and not in the least bit condescending. Cool dude. As a veteran, I do prefer having a range master (CATM/0933/RSO/QWI, etc). Knowing there's a trained staff member able to help, watch over safety "violations", and also step in when necessary--is reassuring to both the expert and the novice shooters. Bottom line: I'm getting an annual membership. Pro tip: New to shooting? Don't have a handgun? Rent one by the hour, get a lane, and a box of rounds...$80 give or take. Need a FOID. My first experience with Smokin gun Worx was back in March of this year. I had just left a disappointing antique gun show and thought I would take a small detour to check them out. I've heard their adds, a couple friends of mine said they stopped in, I figured it wouldn't hurt. When I arrived the first time it was busy. I really had no intention of purchasing anything other than some cleaning supplies. Looking through their impressive collection of firearms on hand I saw a nice compact 9mm. I had been thinking of getting something along those lines, but hadn't pulled the trigger. (See what I did there...) I can't remember the name of the associate that assisted me, but he was really informative and helpful. I told him I was interested, but I couldn't purchase until I had a chance to test fire one. He made an arrangement where I was able to test fire one of theirs they rent. After being able to test fire on their in-house range, I made the purchase. I brought my son with me when I went to pick it up. They set up some range time so I could let him shoot it and I could get some practice on it. The range officer was friendly and provided constructive feedback to my son. He did it in a way as to not be intrusive of a father/son lesson, but in a way that a 17 year old boy would listen. I was very appreciative. Since then I've been back multiple times. I drive the distance from Rockford to purchase from them solely on the way they've treated me, my son, and other's I know that have visited. I've bought ammo, cleaning supplies, and other equipment. Sure, I wish they were closer, but it's worth the drive. They also offer various classes including Concealed carry, hunter safety, and beginner lessons. I can't comment on the classes as I haven't taken one from them. However I'm hoping to change that in the near future. read more

As far as the gun sales department goes it is very nice. As far as the so called gunsmithing department goes, I think it is terrible. I brought my Winchester Model 12 shotgun in to have a new recoil pad installed. I was told by Jarrett Wehunt they were about 8 weeks behind with work which was no problem at all. I supplied him with a Kick-eez brand recoil pad which is one of the best and most popular pads on the market today. I never heard from the man so I called him after waiting almost EIGHT MONTHS. He said he ruined several recoil pads trying to grind them to fit the stock which I thought was really bizarre. He said Kick-eez pads were no good. I knew better than believing that BS so I told him to put on a brand he likes then. (At this point I just wanted a new recoil pad installed regardless of the brand.) He said he would take care of it. He basically put my Winchester on the shelf and gave up on the job without even telling me. I called him two months later which was now approximately a total of TEN MONTHS and he said he never got back to working on my gun. I had to go back in and pick up my gun so I could box it up and send it to a true professional gunsmith. When I picked up my gun, it did not even have its original recoil pad on it! It had NO RECOIL PAD ON IT AT ALL. When I asked him about it, he said he must have thrown it out. He is the only one in this so called gunsmithing department. Always seek out a true professional gunsmith even if you have to UPS it out of state. I have over 40 years experience shooting all types of firearms competitively and dealing with many gunshops. I have never felt so mistreated as a customer as I did by Smokin Gun Worx and their employee Jarrett Wehunt. He never apologized or even offered to replace my original recoil pad he threw out leaving me with less gun going out as when I came in! The best way to judge a retail establishment is 3 ways: products, knowledgeable staff members, and extra amenities. I will be discussing these 3. Product-wise, Smokin has always had a wide variety, whether it be rifles, handguns, or shotguns. Whether you are looking for a conceal 9mm, an AR pistol, a rifled shotgun, or your first firearm, there is usually something for you. The only reason I use "usually" is the fact that the world is behind on making firearms and ammo right now, and yet they still seem to find stock where other stores laugh when you ask if they have any 9mm ammo. Knowledgeable staff. Whether you want to know about the small crest on an old bolt action or simply how to hold it, each employee is willing to stand and talk to make sure you know what you would like to get and how it properly functions. Firearms are not something that comes naturally, so if you are a new buyer or have been shooting since you were a small child, there's always someone there to discuss the idiosyncrasies of the firearm you are interested in. As for extra amenities, there isn't enough time for you to read the amount of things Smokin provides, but I'll do my best. To start, their range is second to none. A 5 star range, both (yes both) 25 yard ranges are easily accessible and well ventilated. With plenty of options via renting guns, in case you either don't have your own or want to try a few different ones, your next purchase is probably in the rental cases. It's very handy that I can try a firearm before I purchase one. Smokin also has classes that range from beginner, intermediate, home protection, and concealed carry, both renewal and first time. The banquet hall downstairs has plenty of room for larger classes and is not inconveniencing anyone that isn't taking the class in the retail space. And if any of this doesn't make you want to take the drive, or if guns aren't really your thing, they have a simulator that puts video games to shame. Smokin Gun Worx is by far the best facility in the northern IL/ southern Wisconsin area. Their only fault is that they don't have 10 places closer to each major city. read more

On February 1, 2021, I purchased (paid for) two firearms which were not in stock. The first arrived within three month, but the second did not come through for eight months. No one's to blame due to Covid, I get that. When the second one finally arrived, they told me there was a 17% price increase. Covid, delays, inflation: everything costs more, I get that, too. No explanation and no one said they were sorry about anything. I suggested that since I had paid in full 8 months prior, they should stand by their word. "No way!" I searched the same gun at Cabela's and showed them it was still less than their original price (no increase there). Both salesmen = arrogant. Too bad. No one apologized, no one said "Thank you." I completed more paperwork for the waiting period. A week later I returned to pick up the gun. No conversation until I heard "You're good to go. " And that I did---never to return. read more

purchased a garaysar fear 114 12 gaon dec 18th new a nice shot gun hard to find smoken gun's seem's ok they have some nice stuff when pick up time came dec 23 i aske will there be a manual and door breacher's and one choke in the box he told me it would all be in the box when i got there only thing in the box was the gun he than said this is how they send them not true i called the distributor in ft,myer's his name was ike he told me he send's everything with the shotgun and smokin gun's lost it in the shop or or gave to someone else he told me to call them i did and no return call if nothing else he would send it to me new gun's come with manual anything else my advice make sure before u give them any money take a picture of content's nice place but be carefull. stay saff god bless america; tom read more

The shooting lanes were very nice, and a range officer was there the entire time. Nice retail shop, too. The only small complaint, the range was very warm.
